Hm, I don't now, actually. I'll have to look on my photo backup hard drive if I can dig one up; I'll do so later this evening.

I started using this app a few weeks ago and its really interesting. I know the numbers wont be exact, but it certainly gives you good perspective on what you are putting into your body.

I fell completely off the rails since originally posting my intentions here, so tracking cals is the new start. My wife is using it as well, which helps as we kind of keep each other accountable. That said, it gives me a goal of 2420 calories a day and during our vacation I had a couple of 4500 cal days, so that needs to stop.

Wow, totally forgot I had posted in this thread.

I've actually lost eight pounds from my original post (to 275). Shortly after my original post, my knees really started to hurt after runs, to the point where I had to stop running. I spiralled into a bit of depression as a result, ate like crap, and gained another ten pounds.

I was inspired to finally start a food journal on MyFitnessPal.com after reading the You Talk to Fatties thread, and it has really helped. I would recommend it to anyone trying to lose weight. That, plus walking, biking and playing golf without a cart have helped me lose 18 pounds since that high point.

I'm back to running a little bit, once or twice a week, doing 1:00 running and 2:00 walking for 45-60 minutes. I don't want to add any more mileage until I lose more weight and my knees can better handle it.

I have to say again I am really impressed by the myfitnesspal app/site. It has been eye-opening for me as to what I had been putting in my body. One thing in particular is that when looking at the daily calorie goal, I have found myself making better decisions earlier in the day to make sure I don't feel guilty having a beer at night for example. I used to be eating 700cal breakfasts and now I am finding ways to be just as satisfied with <500cals. Same thing with lunches.

Its been great, and I highly recommend it.

And congrats to everyone else in this thread who has improved.

I had a small setback after two vacations this summer, but am back at it now!

Nice thread here and congrats to the successes! I dropped 25lbs in about 8 weeks with a dietary change and starting a fitness workout video series. Went from 220 to 195. My lowest weight was 185lbs when I was running a marathon in Phoenix about 8 years ago now. Maintaining my current weight and have laid off the workouts since my daughter and grandson spent a week, then we had my wife's niece for a week and the work schedule turned upside down.

Gonna start again Monday after reading the thread. Thanks!

Found this thread. And I really need to change something. I'm overweight and I feel unfit, sick, unhealthy and always tired

I gained ~25kg (55lbs) in the last 4-5 years. A lot of stress (work + private) + I eat when I'm stressed. And no exercises.

My biggest motivation is my little son. I really want to be there for him. And I'm worried that it'll kill me if I continue like I did before. (My blood pressure is already so high that it alerted my doc on the last few visits.)

I don't really have a plan yet. First of all I want to eat healthier (no chocolate + less alcohol). And I want to exercise. I used to love race cycling so I started that again. I am even considering starting a workout like P90x. But it hast to work with cycling.

I have "before"-pics. And I will post them if I reach my goal (or get close to it).

Weeks since start: 1

Starting BMI: 32.7
Starting weight: 100 kg (220.5 lbs)

Current weight:99.3kg (218.9 lbs)
Current BMI: 32.4

Goal weight: 75kg (165 lbs)
Goal BMI: 25

bicycle: 118 km (73 miles)

ps. congrats to ugerhard and poker4life. Great changes! Good luck to everybody else.

That is a great motivation Palikari. Your goals are achievable, but I would leave the p90x for later when you have regained a bit of your fitness. It can be pretty intense and would be harder to stay committed to imo.

Happy healthing!

Starting Weight - (Aug 7) - 275lbs
Weigh-in this morning (Aug 14) - 266lbs

How deceptive. Its the easy first 10, but I'm sure I will slow down now. Tracking what I eat and my exercise has been the key for me, 100%. After a day of activity I had about 1000cals to play with so I let myself have a treat (ice cream), I just walked 6kms round trip to get it

***UPDATE***

Starting weight (4/10/12): 276.6 lbs
Current weight (8/17/12): 254.8 lbs
Total Loss: 21.8 lbs

New juicing plan inspired by Adam and "Fat, Sick and Nearly Dead" has been working well. I do 2 meals per day of "Mean Green" and eat a 3rd sensible meal with healthy snacks in between as needed. Coupled with the 3-4 workouts per week, the results are steady and hopefully maintainable.

Posts on Facebook regarding the juicing have inspired a few friends of mine to give it a shot as well, which is fun to see.

Booked a % weight loss bet with the girlfriend that goes until my birthday (8/27), and will let you know the results of that.

After a three week European vacation, I gained only a single pound.

I credit having learned a lot more about portion sizes in the last few months, as well as all the walking I did on excursions.

Back to the smoothies!

I've lost over 70 pounds (71.2 to be exact). Quick update:

Weeks since start: 47
Starting BMI: 37.4
Starting weight: 246.0 lb
Current BMI: 26.6
Current weight: 174.8 lb
Goal weight: 164.1 lb (BMI = 24.9 / "normal")
Target date: 9/25/2012 (one year from when I started)

I have just five weeks to lose 10.7 pounds. Looking less likely, but you know what, if the weight loss goal ends up being a few weeks delayed, who the hell cares?
08-20-2012 , 02:52 PM
That's absolutely incredible, well done!
08-25-2012 , 05:34 PM
Man, this thread is actually pretty damn inspiring. Great job, guys. Keep it up. You're motivating me to keep with my own weight loss program, which I just started. Goal is to lose thirty pounds by next year's WSOP.

Current weight: 211 lbs
BMI: 30.3 (technically obese)
Resting Pulse Rate: 90 (holy crap)

Weight loss plan:
Diet: reduce carbs and snacks; portion control
Exercise: walk every day; elliptical machine 3-4x/week; weight training 2-3x/week

I had a meeting in DC at the end of April. I go every year and try to have dinner with awesome 2+2 politarder and economics wizard borodog. This year we went to a mexican place and he told me of "The Primal Blueprint" i.e. Mark's Daily Apple and how he's lost a ****ton of weight on it. This was on the 27th and was the last day that I ate grains, pasta, bread, rice etc.

I'm 5-11 when i can manage to stand up straight, and started at 204 lbs. I checked in at 192 today, after 6 weeks. I have eliminated all fast food, cheap carbs and sugars. I exercise about the same as before- lift 2-3x/week, and easy cardio when I can. For all you folks concentrating on exercise, one of the tenets of the Primal lifestyle is "you can't exercise away a bad diet." I think getting to and maintaining 175-180 would be awesome.

The biggest change was that I used to be *starving* quite often. Like FEED ME NOW GOD DAMNIT BEFORE I BITE YOUR HEAD OFF AND EAT IT. Not anymore. I still get hungry, but its a more chill, easygoing type of hungry that gets satisfied by a few macadamia nuts-- not 3 nacho cheese tacos and an enchirito.

I would highly recommend folks in this thread take a look at the various websites and books on the Paleo diet and see what you think. Different approaches will work for different folks, but I'm kinda digging it.
bump for now down 20 lbs at 184

even managed to eat the greek salad at 12:30 post San Fran Phish show while everyone around me ate pizza. Tommy Angelo calls it "Blissipline"

Managed to lose two pounds last week, bringing the weight loss total to 73.2 pounds! Update:

Weeks since start: 48
Starting BMI: 37.4
Starting weight: 246.0 lb
Current BMI: 26.2
Current weight: 172.8 lb
Goal weight: 164.1 lb (BMI = 24.9 / "normal")
Target date: 9/25/2012 (one year from when I started)

It feels like I'm in striking distance of that goal, just 8.7 pounds to go! Being very close to the mark (within 10 pounds!) certainly makes me want it more.

It's crunch time now, though, with only four weeks remaining.

Although it's not something I'd normally do, nor recommend others to do, I'm considering whether it may be worth crash dieting in the final week to get off those last few pounds. Obviously short-term diets are seldom effective, and long-term lifestyle changes are definitely more desirable. But, for one week, I can't see crash dieting really being all that harmful, especially if positive lifestyle decisions are resumed afterward.

I'd be curious to hear others' thoughts!
08-27-2012 , 05:24 PM
Well the easiest thing is just to ignore the target date and just focus on reaching your target weight even if it is several days later.
If you still want to do it, go to a sauna and/or drink lots of coffee on the day before. Gets me to lose two pounds of water weight.

Short update.

I'm using Myfitnesspal (thanks Sgt RJ) and it helps a lot. Great app. Trying to eat more protein + fat than carbs whenever possible. Lots of fruit & veg. So my diet is definitely way better.

I'm also cycling twice per week (if possible thrice) and loving it. After my first 40km trip I thought I would die. Now I can do it already in my comfort zone. (aerobic heart rate).

I looked into P90x and even watched one or two of the videos. It's not my thing. I'm currently reading "Starting Strength" and will probably start weight lifting twice per week.

Thanks to Adam! Your thread definitely helped to get my fat ass off the couch. Hope it stays that way

Weeks since start: 4

Starting BMI: 32.7
Starting weight: 100 kg (220.5 lbs)

Current weight:93.4kg (205.9 lbs)
Current BMI: 30.5

Goal weight: 75kg (165 lbs)
Goal BMI: 25

bicycle: 443 km (275 miles)

EDIT: I ordered a scale that shows body fat %. I want to focus more on body fat than weight. As a true nerd I obviously ordered this one
