ESPN WSOP Main Event coverage discussion for pokercast

The first thing I noticed this week was Ben Tollerene at the feature table. I need to rewatch it but I am pretty sure it was never brought up that he is "Ben86". After a few bad downswings, he is currently up over 1.3M since the beginning of 2011. They seemed to be more interested in showing the jewelry guy that wanted to bust Daniel. They showed an amazing check-raise river bluff that Venessa Selbst pulled off against Ben Lamb. When you look at his stack size its such an amazing play. He wants to have a stack he can make plays with later on and she is effectively taking that away from him if he calls. She knows he really can only call her with a full house. I was really impressed there.

The jewelry guy was annoying, I think his business died with MC Hammer.

Is it me or does the WSOP series seem to be working from the American Idol model where they feel they HAVE to show only idiots in the first few weeks? If this is a variety show, then I hardly see how the live stream was competition.

fwiw I would rather watch Scotty Nguyen of JR Belande bust out than watch Daniel do it while enduring his stroke annoying table talk.

I completely agree with this. ESPN did not allow the live stream this year because it took away audience from the Tuesday night highlight shows. But the two are very different audiences, as evidenced by what they decided to show in the first two highlight shows.

You can tell I am still bitter about not having main event live stream this year.

What's a shame is that ESPN had finally seemed to get away from those types of characters. They went out of their way to find them in 2006, 2007 and so forth. Perhaps it's the switch to Poker PROductions or something. Now we see Ted Bort barking all over again.

I will never get over the barking guy. What a joke. Last year they gave every diehard poker player what they wanted. We have to hope we slowly get it back. In 5 years, I think the live stream final tables will be amazing. I hope by then we get the live stream main event final 27 atleast.

Adam was on tonight's telecast as they showed the hand Adam described in a previous pokercast between Van Tran and Alcober.

Near the end of the 2nd episode I think. You'll see it for sure. I don't want to give away any spoilers.

Every week I conjure up enthusiasm to watch, and every week its just more horrific than the last.

This is a most epic of fails by ESPN/WSOP.
