Carlin was good and appealed to many, but Pryor was a ground-breaker and catalyst to many of the upcoming young black. You always seem to hear some comedian naming Pryor as the reason they went into comedy, but seldom hear cutting edge comics list Carlin.

I voted Pryor not only for his material and cutting edge style, which stirred many, but for his impact on society, on others, and ofc lighting hizzelf on fire!

Carlin was a funny dude with quite the following, but I believe Pryor to more important to comedy overall. I think he goes down as well though...

Fixed.

Besides Cosby, I have more albums/specials by these two than anyone else. In fact, I have more Carlin and Pryor CDs than most artists, save for Led Zeppelin, the Beatles, Van Morrison, Fleetwood Mac and the Moody Blues. This was tough.

+1

No disrespect for Carlin by any means. While some of his stuff is genius, and really made you think, he also had a LOT of shyte.

Pryor ate cookies in bed.

Re: Comic Madness -- Final!

Amazed that this was so big a blowout. Among the biggest of any matchup in the bracket in fact.

Especially bc if you polled, say, a sample of 100 professional comics, this likely would have been a decisive victory in the other direction. Regardless, the peanut gal...er, audience has spoken.
