Re: Charging a subscription fee to the PokerCast?

I think it's by far the best poker radio program. Mike and Adam do a great job and seem to have a lot of fun doing the show. I'm glad it's free, but I'd pay $5 per month without a second thought.

Re: Charging a subscription fee to the PokerCast?

Using (US) public radio as a comparison, $2 per episode would work out to be only a little less than I donate to one of my local stations. The difference is that for the public radio donation I get 24/7 content that is produced by people who do radio production for a living (no offense intended). True, I'm not listening to public radio 24/7, but I do listen far more than the 1.5-2.5 hrs. per week I listen to the Pokercast.

That being said, I would definitely donate something to the Pokercast if the option were available.

Wouldn't pay, like deucescracked pcast its pretty mediocre presenting/show imo.

A podcast I'd pay for would need presenters involved more in poker world + funny/entertaining, big name guests + strategy

Nick Wealthall ftw!

I <3 the pokercast but would prob not pay. Since BF the show is not as important to me since most of the topics aren't really relevant for me ATM. I still enjoy Mike & Adam, but it would prob fall by the wayside ala Bart's show.

Re: Charging a subscription fee to the PokerCast?

I like things that are free, but I will pay for things that have value or have additional value added. If I had to pay for the Pokercast, I would pay $99 annually for 50 episodes per year, with some included PokerStars tournaments or league events.

This would be so bad, "If you don't agree with my inane argument, stop listening."

Nick Wealthall makes me cringe, i couldn't listen to him for longer than 10 minutes let alone 3 hours.

I would donate if that option were made available/necessary. You take Merge funds?

I think if they made it a subscription, they'd have to get their facts straight more often

Re: Charging a subscription fee to the PokerCast?

Would more than happily donate, Pokercast got me on to 2p2.

Why would Stars be dumb to quit the pokercast? Surely anyone who listens to the pokercast has a working knowledge of the poker industry and probably plays on stars anyway? Surely, they can't get that many people joining stars off the back of the podcast?

And would any one leave if they did sever ties?

Yes, the sponsorship has gained Stars very few new signups. As you said, the type of people who listen to a poker-related podcast probably already play online (assuming they're allowed to) and most who play online probably play on Stars.

However, the sponsorship might heighten traffic to Stars from existing players. Before the DOJ took the mouse and keyboard out of my hands, I split my play between Tilt and Stars, with a preference for Tilt (yeah, yeah, shoot me... I ran better there). But every now and then, I'd hear of some cool promotion during Steve D's advertorial and it would get me to increase my play on Stars for a while.

I didn't play very much even when I was permitted to. But if you consider all of the multi-tabling grinders playing on even more sites than the two I played, and consider those who paid much more attention to FPPs and rakeback, that volume could have easily made the PS sponsorship worth its nut even if they never picked up another new customer.

Edit: oops, forgot to answer the question.

Count me among those who would be willing to pay a subscription fee for the PokerCast. Some of you are more devoted than I am, however. $25 per year is a snap-call. Once I hit $40-50 per year, I'd start to wonder if it's worth it. But I'd rather just donate it via PayPal or something.

Maybe we can hire Jack Walls to do a fundraiser.

Alternative idea: offer a shorter PokerCast as a free download. But save some content for a "premium" version for paying listeners. (Although Bunner probably doesn't like the idea of having to create two mixes.)

Another idea is to take a page out of WTF with Marc Maron: offer the last X number of episodes as a free download, as is. But sell older "classic" episodes for a small fee (Maron charges $1.99) after a certain date. It would be particularly cool if some of the old Rounders episodes could be revived in this manner.

Why don't they make it optional, see how many people, I'd pay $2 a show they defiantly deserve it
