Anyone else listen on a blackberry have problems with the recent long (2+ hour) episodes? I can't get passed the :36 mark, have to use an old iPod just to listen to the pokercast. Anyone else with this problem? I've seen other podcasts split up episodes into Part I/II when they get over 2 hours. Any chance of that here?

I have been having similar issues for the last two months. My player (Creative Zen Vision M) will bookmark in the wrong place, not resume in the right place and the timing info will generally be way off. The timestamp of the podcast say it is over 2:40 long even though (maybe with the exception of this week) it was actually under 2 hours. In those cases there is a bunch of dead air at the end if I listen straight through.

My issues are apparently not exactly the same as yours though since if I listen to the whole thing straight through there aren't any problems (other than the dead air and the timestamp being wrong).

I listen to a lot of podcasts and have had no such issues with any others (some of which are just as long).

I am not sure whatever is going on has anything to do with the length (at least in my case). Prior to two months ago when this started there were some 2+2 podcasts over 2 hours and no such issues.

If I listen straight through I'm ok too. But any pause or interruption after :36 restarts it. I had assumed length was the root cause but you may be right as I didn't have problems before a few months ago as well.

What model and app are you using to listen? Are you using the MP3 or getting it from iTunes/Podcast Alley (still an MP3 I know).

I'm getting it via the RSS feed using a podcast organizer app that came with my MP3 player.

RSS url that I'm using: http://pokercast.twoplustwo.com/pokercast.rss

The last 3 mp3s show the following times and lengths:

#151 02:42:08 82.9MB
#152 02:42:56 81.6MB
#153 02:29:48 76.0MB

For #152 I remember I opened it in Windoze media player just to see the time and it was the same (2:42). And I'm pretty sure that podcast was not actually that long.

Just looking at the history in my DL program, the last one that does not show as more than 2 hours was #129 (from 6/23). The majority of them show as over 2:30.

I looked in the archives here at #152 and I guess it really was that long (either that or the player here is having the same issue with the file--i skipped to the end and it shows 2:42). So maybe the problem is just with the timestamps themselves because what has been happening is that at then end of the podcast on my player it is showing something like 40 minutes to an hour left.

Similar here. RSS feed into Podtrapper (BB app that I run on Storm). I also tried to run the episodes through the media player on the BB and had the same issues.

I don't have the timestamp history, but #153 shows for me as 2:42.30 in length. The past bunch were similar from what I recall.

I have had problems for the last several weeks when I stop or fast-forward/rewind, it will start several seconds or even minutes from the position I want and will skip through in random sized chunks.

I had done some major tinkering on my iPod 5.5g Video and assumed it had to do with the large drive I put in.

I used to always have problems with long mp3s that sound almost exactly like the problem with the blackberries, but that was solved by one update.

Can you try different firmware on the blackberries?

I'm still in the middle of nowhere (Cape Breton), but when I get back to the JD-Lab, I'll see what I can figure out about this problem. I had burned last week's episode to a CD to listen to in the car, and noticed that seeking/pausing was putting things way ahead/way behind. I'll investigate.

I also listen on my bb and have had this problem only for the past 4 or 5 episodes. I think it's a bitrate problem. When I ran it through a converter it played fine on my bb. I changed the bitrate from 96 to 64. The older podcasts (which played through as they should) were all 48kbps. I think up to 64kbps is fine for bb.

Hope you guys get it fixed soon! Very frustrating not being able to listen to the show in the car.

(And thus, after years of loyal podcast listening and board lurking, I have finally made a post on 2+2. And what an exciting post at that.... )

any luck with this?

Older episodes:

Newer episodes (causing problems) :

Seems to be the Variable Bit Rate that is fowling things up. I've asked the bunner about getting this sorted.

Awesome. Thanks Johnny.

Apparently it's a shortcoming of BlackBerry's built in player:

Hopefully we can switch to CBR and it'll take care of the issue.

Didn't have the raw file of the latest show to compress so I did the NAPT show. File size was actually lower so I should be able to use non-VBR going forward if this fixes the problem.

Episode 148 No VBR

Let me know if it works.

That seems to do the trick as far as I can tell. Thanks Bunner.

I didn't use VBR on the latest show episode 157, let me know if it works fine on blackberry.

Works perfectly! Thanks for looking into and fixing it.

Excellent. Another triumph for the bunner!

For the past few weeks this is all I get when I try to listen with the 2p2 Player. Suggestions?

03-08-2011 , 02:18 PM
That's weird. Just tried all my browsers and no such problem. Have you installed any sort of pop-up/ad-blocking lately?
