Re: **2+2 Stand Up Comedian Madness Official Nomination Thread**
This thread is already creating what will be a very enjoyable homework assignment: I want to jump on Netflix and check out some of the more recurring nominations. I need to check out Billy Connolly, whose name has shown up several times. I only know him from his participation in the Aristrocrats film. His energy in those interviews alone was infectious.
As for Carthac's defense of Dane Cook, I'll give you this: I actually find some of Cook's material quite funny (even the stuff not purportedly stolen from Louis C.K.). I just never liked his delivery -- his stage presence and demeanor is one of the most off-putting I've ever seen from a performer. He always struck me as a bro/douchebag type whose appeal was strongest with the fraternity/sorority set. Not that he IS one of those, but that's how he always came across to me, and it soured me on his act from the start.
But let's save it for the voting. Comedy is all a matter of taste, which is why this should be a cool bracket game. (It's also why I can hear some of my friends groaning at my inclusion of Lewis Black.)
In re Mencia, his two-part appearance on podcast WTF with Marc Maron was intriguing, to say the least -- almost like the Frost-Nixon interview for the stand-up set. I highly recommend it, even if you're not a comedy nerd.
Re: **2+2 Stand Up Comedian Madness Official Nomination Thread**
Suprised to see Eddie Izzard doesn't seem to have a huge volume of nominations compared to some others so i'd put his name forwards.
Also does Tim Minchin count?
Musical comedy more so than out-and-out stand-up, but his live shows seem to fit in with the genre? Am i allowed to nominate him? If he's eligable he should be right up there...
