My poker story
I started poker as a sophomore in HS playing on Absolute Poker/Pokeroom. I was apart of a forum called Techman Forum. I loved playing freerolls and they sponsored a $20 freeroll. Woohoo! I ended up grinding it out after 3 hours of intense play. I ended up turning this $20 into $2,000 in 3 months. I saw Mark Seif, (ABSOLUTE POKER PRO ZOMG) playing at 25/50 limit and decided it was time to own some pros and show the poker world I'm the next great thing. I was 15 at this time btw. After taking some hands, I hit and run up...
..
...
$50.
I figured if there was anything to confirm I was on my way, this was it. I ended up playing $3/6NL and getting whacked. As the night went on, I ended up playing on my last $600 when I got up to $1,100. This next hand I will never forget.
Hand A6
I raised on button to $18 and button called. (Button had me covered)
Flop: A A 6
He checked. I checked (sick tarp)
Turn: 2
He bet $20, I raised to $70, he reraised to $200 and I flatted. (such a great tarp I'm thinking)
River: Q
He bet $120 and I go all in thinking I'm getting what I had at the peak of my account and some. He thinks for all of 10 seconds, er .10 seconds and snaps AQ.
I was absolutely crushed at the time. How could a rising star be so unlucky.
Moving on
I ended up getting a stake from the leader of Techman forum for $100 in exchange for my rake on Pokerroom. I turned the $100 here into $300 when a great challenge came. There was something called the SNG challenge. For one weekend, players would play for top 10 on the leaderboard. These 10 players would be in a SNG worth around 12k (can't remember exactly) where 10th gets $1,000 and first gets $5,000. You get points for cashing in SNG's and that's how they decide the top 10. I found a great way to cheat at this by playing as many tables as possible with a real life friend. We ended up playing 800 SNG's in one weekend. We made it to the final table!
At the final table, we were going strong in 2nd with 6 left. I can't remember the specifics but I raised JJ from the button and was flatted by AK. Board came AKJ and ofc we got it in. Yes, another bad beat story as a K came on river. The 6th place prize was $1,500. I split the money with my friend and after losing $200 at the actual SNG's to get here, I was at $850 or so (yes I was even a mass tabling losing player then too). I ended up taking this roll to $20,000 when I decided it was time to get to $100,000 as fast as possible. I lost $5,000 at NL25/50 on this hand.
I had QQ in MP. I raised to $100, got a caller from MP2. Everyone else folded.
Flop: 8 7 2. Pot:$225
I bet out $150, he reraised to $350. I decided I've seen this play too many times, and reraised to $1,000. He called.
Turn: 3. Pot: $2,225
I decided to put my infamous tarp down and check. He bet $1200 and I C/R the mo ****a all in while laughing because I knew he was done for. I has an overpair!
River: 4
I show QQ, he shows 87s. This tilted the **** outta me. How could my overpair lose!?
I sat in at 250/500 limit HU vs some guy with all caps (can't remember name). I decided I had to make what I lost back. I ended up being up $4,000 in 2 hands and hit and ran. Being the greedy kid I was, I decided I'll come back and own him some more. Down $10,000 in the next 10 hands, I believed that limit HU is just lucky idiots who suck at poker. I decided to play $50/$100 HU limit pretty much all the way until my broll was $0.
I played poker every few months or so, trying to relive my huge wins. I stopped playing during freshman of college year completely until I came back during summer and played live some. I won and remembered how fun it was. I started on FTP, and decided I hated it after many SNG's. I exchanged the money with Cow for $100 on PS. You all can thank him for switching me to PS.
Pokerstars
I had $100 on PS in July 08. I decided I was ownage at SNG's so I played them and worked a roll to $300, within a week. I then moved to $60 turbos and worked it up to $800, which was followed by a downswing to playing my last $60. I would most likely not be here today without this hand.
4 players left, I had 4th chips with $2,000 on blinds $400/$800
I had JT on button and after CO folded, I shoved my bankroll in pretty much. I got a caller from BB, who has K9o.
I pulled a Joe Hachem and really need a one time here.
Flop: K 2 T.
I was extremely disappointed but there was still some small hope.
Turn: T
This was extremely lucky/awesome/amazing.. pretty much anything good.
River: K
and there went my bankroll again..
Kidding of course, I actually rivered quads and proceeded to win the SNG. I got my roll all the way up to $1,000 playing these and then decided I would play cash games at NL25.
I started playing cash games with some help from FantasticCow. The problem with him helping though, was that he tried to bully me at NL25 as well whenever he was bored. He's an extreme douchebag but I own him now and I owned him at NL25 then when he came down. Kidding about the douchebag, but he always tried to snipe me! I grinded a lot and after help from several friends, I have become the breakeven nit I am today at NL400/600/1000.
