I almost missed this one.

1) Raise preflop. A lot of players "adjust" to your aggressive style by CALLING more with bad hands. This is obviously awesome for you.

Example: The other day, I had KK and opened from MP1, 15/8 over like 300 hands calls HU in the SB. Blah blah blah, we get to show down, (I won), he shows down J7 of clubs and it didn't look like a misclick pre cuz he took a while.

The great thing about this is that since they usually don't play these hands, they play them TERRIBLY postflop.

2) Don't project. That is, your play style is yours, and not theirs. So if they smoothe called you on a 346 with two spades, don't rule out a set just because you would've raised. People love to tarp. Similarly, the vast majority of people UNDERvalue AK. I can't tell you how many times I've raised on the CO, BTN calls, SB calls, BB calls. Hand gets to show down and BB shows AK. To them, and you may have heard this if you ever go to a live game, "AK is just a drawing hand, it's not even a pair yet." So yeah, don't rule out AK just because they didn't three-bet. Which leads me to...

3) Don't automatic stack off pre I know there's a lot of talk on this forum about four-betting light and at the stakes they're speaking from, its right. At NL50-NL200, the wide majority of players don't three-bet light. There are plenty of players at those stakes whose three-bet range is KK+. They don't adjust based on position, they don't adjust based on opponent. So be aware of their tendencies and don't just be like "OMG I have AK, its the nuts!" There's plenty of players for whom that's true (I'm looking at you Gold Seraph) but not all and not most probably.

4) People's ranges are largely polarized. Low stakes players, even many regs, are HORRIBLE at value betting and miss gallons and gallons of molten gold value on all their non-nut hands. I see people smoothe call river bets with two card Queen high flushes in small pots. I see people check behind TPTK on turn and river to show down for a 10BB pot. Its ridiculous. So when they pot it to you on the river, and you're making your PokerStove range (or using your mental PokerStove), make sure to downweight those medium strength hands without a read. Unknown might have air there, but they almost never have TP3K.

I can't really think of any others at the moment. For you in particular though, stop reading so much into the aggro stat over small samples. The aggro stats is one of the hardest to figure out, and not terribly useful except against regs who you have a lot of hands against (but then you usually know how aggro they are already).

I don't think I'm that smart, especially on this forum. Poker forum guys are typically top tier intelligence people imo.

But as to your personality question, I will say yes. I'm a fish at 1st impressions which are super important for careers and getting girls. Also, I just can't put up with people's stupidity. I'm such a bad liar and everytime I think somebody's an idiot (which is a lot), it just emanates uncontrollably from me, even when I'm trying to be nice. This is also bad because you really have to do a lot of bull****ting to get ahead.

+1 on the "you're one of the best strat posters" line...it's true.

Are there any situations where you fold AKo to a simple raise (either an opening raise or a raise of a limper)?

Are there any standard 2+2 "group-think" moves/lines you completely disagree with?

How old are you, and when do you finish school? Are you planning on playing poker full time?

Blondes, brunettes, or redheads?

Favorite pro poker player (live or online) besides Jens?

Travelled much?

No college?

What happened to your friends from the home game, do they still play?

Occasionally. I've done it when an 8/1 open pops to 5x. Its KK-AA like every time.

Not too much really. I think in a couple of spots you guys overplay one pair or don't give enough credit to Villains. I also think this board recommends bet/folding turn for "value" too frequently.

21 and I finish in three more semesters because I started in the spring. I really don't know what I'm going to do.

No real preference. I've always been intrigued by redheads, because there are like 0 where I live.

I think Doyle Brunson is awesome and I kinda just want to lose pots to him and listen to his stories. Sammy Farha is hilarious and terrible and I the 2+2 threads with the doctored Farha pictures. In terms of skill, I think most of the "pros" are pretty bad though, tbh, unless their TV play is grossly misrepresentative.

I don't really follow any of the online superstars. When they told me SABR's avatar was Phil Galfond, my response was "Who the hell is Phil Galfond?"

I'm in college. A tiny little liberal arts college that no one outside and few inside of my state have heard of. Maybe Trebek can guess it.

Yes, one of them is a microstakes FR donk and a poster in the forum one below ours. The other doesn't post but is a 1/2 reg at FTP, nonoman for those that play. He lurks because he's a parasite who reaps the benefit of our awesome advice while contributing nothing to the community. Nh sir.

I agree with you wholeheartedly on this one.

You said playing against other regs can sometimes be stressful, what table selection methods do you use? Do you go out of your way to avoid regs who will constantly battle you? How do you think you adjust to over-aggro regs in general?

Which donk reg on FTP owns your soul the most?

Who has made you their bitch?

Any tips for beating the 'bots' (mario , drunken, tilting)

Who wins in a cage match between Lion Oil and Jens Pikenes?

Who wins in a cage match between Milanogal and Bigkawik?

Why you are not playing on Stars? I mean why you prefer FTP.
08-02-2008 , 05:41 AM
Do you have a certain number of hands you try to hit each month or do you more just play when you feel like it?

Hobbies outside of poker?

do you go to ramapo or rowan?
08-02-2008 , 06:31 AM
how much do you think PT or HEM helps your winrate, also do you think you'd be a decent winner without it?

When I first joined FTP, I went on a sick cooler run which involved literally FIVE top boat < quads in a span of like ten to fifteen thousand hands. I also had KK < AA a bunch of times too. I mean I was playing like garbage too, don't get me wrong, but it was just so discouraging. I developed this sick anxiety, like a feeling in the pit of my stomach, before I started my sessions, wondering you know "What horrible attrocity is gonna befall me this time?" So yeah, I felt like quitting then.

Also, during the semester I play VERY little.

Donk reg, hmmm. Probably Artie in that I'll make it $9 preflop with Aces, he'll call. The flop will come 2 7 9 and he'll check raise me half his stack. I'll yell at the screen and go "How the hell do you set mine 9% of your short stack preflop against me? You know like 70% of the time I have nothing" Then I'll proceed to stick it in against him and yes he has 777 every time.

I don't really play against them that much. Probably raise their continuation bets.

As to the cage match thing, I'm not really familiar with those PokerStars players. Jens though, just cuz

Mostly because I get a sick thrill from doing this:

And having this done to me:

I get no rakeback. Every time I try to withdraw money, there's a problem. Every time I talk to customer support, they can't help me. Or they out and out LIE. All their promotions/bonuses are bull****. Literally the ONLY reason I play on their site is because my money is already there and I don't feel like going through the trouble of taking it all out.

I just play when I feel like it. But I usually try to play 2000 hands a day the days I do hit the tables.

I like doing the crossword puzzles and word jumbles.

You're a girl, right? Plz ask more questions, preferrably ones more related to my phone number, how to get in touch with me, bed size, etc. Thx ;-)

Helps me a ton. I'd prob be a decent winner without it (maybe like 2ptBB) because I'm pretty good at reading "unknowns", but I feel I'm not able to develop a solid read on 8+ tables without it. I mean, it's obvious when someone's a super fish, but the difference between a 20/10 and 15/7 is gonna be hard to notice. Plus, nit rocks will fall under the radar because its easy to miss the fact that someone hasn't played any hands, simply because they have no presence at the table.

Caesars was pretty juicy. The girls at the Tropicana and the Borgata are really hot (not necessarily the staff, but the actual girls that come to gamble there), but their poker players are of a higher breed than the ones at the less classy casinos. They still suck and are fish, but they do have slightly more of a clue.

Slowly but surely, I will dominate you!

Well Mr.Guy, I have a question. Villian is running 4/1/.01 over 2505 hands. Oddly enough his name is OnlyRaisingAA. I am button and villain is UTG. He raises, a donk at MP min raises. I reraise. Villian goes All In. In this exact moment villian sends me an e-mail with a signed and notarized contract saying that he will give me $1000 if he does not have AA. Also, someone has a gun to my head and says he will kill me if I loose the hand. Can I fold KK?
