Warning, Scam Email? Warning, Scam Email?

12-13-2012 , 10:47 PM
Hey guys, Just to warn you I received an email today from help*r@horaton.com Seemed weird that it went straight in to my inbox rather than the spam folder... a little more searching and I found some guys talking about receiving something from the same email that i did. Anyway they did some checks and found it's a guy from the Isle of man and that the thing that seems to link all the people that have received this email is that they all play on Pokerstars.

Just a friendly warning, no idea how malicious (if at all) the email is but i can't imagine unsolicited emails like this sent to pstars players is going to result in anything good.

Here is the forum where they discuss the email and also realise the link to pokerstars

I reported the email to stars after determining that it was from their servers. "Technical support" assures me I'm wrong. I assured them that as a sysadmin with 15 years experience, I know damn well how to spot fake email headers, and these aren't fake. The email is from within Stars. I found an email for what I think is their systems team, I emailed back "support" and the systems team.

I'm kinda steaming that some stars employee seems to have decided to spam us, and that "support" is blinding themselves to it.

I'm hoping that this Sutherland guy gets fired right in time for Christmas. He'll get to enjoy being wrong and jobless at the same time, maybe that'll give him enough perspective that he won't do something this ****ing scammy and unethical again.

A PokerStars employee apparently gripped by pseudo-religious, end of the world beliefs managed to spam an undetermined number of the site’s customers on Friday, forcing the company to issue a public apology and institute heightened controls on its emailing practices.
