keeping track of stack sizes is one of the hardest things in live poker b/c im just way too lazy to do it.

other night i raise to 40 utg with AMERICAN AIRLINES, and get called by a thinking fish on the button and a drooling fish in the SB.

flop is K105, and i bet 100 american dollars and get called in rhythym by the button

turn is 4, standard runout for me when i have aces, and i bet 200 american dollars and get called in rhythym by said button

river is 9 of , board is K10549. the pot is 725, and only at this point do I make an attempt to look at buttons stack. looks like about 500ish in green and another 100ish in red, so I just cram in all my black (1.2k) in hopes of getting a hero call from KJ+. villain looks upset, which is a good sign, and moves his left hand to wipe his brow. only then i realize, that he, in fact, has about 10 blacks as well, meaning that I just overbet 2x pot on a fairly bad river for my hand.

whoops...i am very upset, not just because he's probably folding almost all worse hands, and my value bet might not be good more than half the time, but i'm going to look like some idiot fish who thinks AA is the nuts.

thankfully, in classic vinivici fashion, I get looked up by what apparently wasn't even a king, and I obviously get max value out of the hand (bet 1.2k on the river with only 1.5k behind, and he wouldn't have called an all-in cuz zomg its an all-in).

moral of the story is: ask their stack size preflop, otf, ott, and otr. that or have a well-balanced unexploitable toasting range.

So i sat down at a 2/5 game with $500. I was lucky enough to be seated on the button, my how poker gods were looking out for me. UTG folded, a rarity in live poker as he was not even certain what he was going for. The next 8 players limped in. Yes, there were 12 players at this table, such is common in a live game. When it got to me, I immediately put on my sunglasses so that the players would not be able to get a read on my holdings. I proceeded to ask UTG for a count. I understand that this may be looked down upon, as he was the only person that had already folded his hand, but I felt that this was an important piece of information that needed to be accounted for in this situation. I knew vini would know UTG's folded stack, hence I had to know myself. I proceeded to order a crown and coke, easy on the coke. I waited until the drink was delivered to act. A couple of pro poker players stood behind me snickering. I tried not to let them get me out of my groove as they were likely just internet whiz kids who clicked buttons all day and pounded brooskis while prop betting on who could stay at rhinos the longest.

My drink was delivered. I asked the dealer to count the chips in his tray. In my experiences this is highly important information to know. I asked UTG for another exact count. It appeared he had a dirty stack and had mislead me with his first answer 5 minutes ago. I pretended to look at my cards again. The other 11 players were all looking fearful, or maybe they just wanted to take my precious jew gold. One player called the clock, I asked him for a count of his stack in return. When he was done I asked UTG for a count once more. I stared down the blinds to see if they looked interested. They had gone to the bathroom minutes ago. I asked UTG for a count once more, then pretended to look at my cards for a 3rd time. At this point I was fairly certain I had a monster, so I jammed it all in there.

The blinds folded. UTG had already folded so luckily I was able to avoid him. The rest of the table took their time mulling over the obviously difficult decision. I mean, a young kid since down with 500USD and goes all in the first hand. He must have the American Airlines. A player from middle position makes the call, the rest of the table folds. He tables Td 4d and I proudly flip up the As 8h. Unfortunately, the board runs out TTxxx and I lose the $48 he had to start the hand. I tip the dealer $52 to leave myself with an even $400.

I then get up from the poker table, and walk upstairs to our table at the club. The club is fun, their are lots of playboy bunnies walking around giving us drinks. Eventually we leave after I strike out with a 40ish year old who is apparently married, but wants a piece of me.

We head out to another bar. I light $100 on fire. The night comes to a blurry close.

The greatest hand I ever played:

The setting was the Pokerstars Caribbean Adventure, or PCA for short. I prefer the full name as I find when I mention PCA people often assume I'm talking about PCP and I suddenly have an entirely new audience.

The game is Pot Limit Omaha, or PLO for short. I find that this acronym is acceptable as it is not easily confused with PCP. The blinds are 1/2 and there are 9 players at the table. 5 live players limp and justforfunds folds from somewhere near middle position. I proceed to take a swig of my goombay smash and ask nolan for a count. He tells me to **** off.

Dankess makes it $15 to go from the cutoff. I look down and notice that I have the button. This is highly important as the button is the best place to apply pressure, but mostly because if I am bored I can pretend it is a hockey puck and throw it at other players. For the sake of professionalism, I leave the button in place. Sergio Garcia walks into the poker room, and I decide he is better equipped to play this hand then me.

I yell over "Hey Sergio, come play this hand." Sergio obliges because the two of us have become fast friends. In fact he gave me a butt pat when I busted out of a $100 sng the previous day. I consider a butt pat from Sergio Garcia to be one of the greatest accomplishments of my life.

Sergio comes to the table and decides to flat call on the button. For more information of flat calling, and how it can effectively be used against dankness, please refer to the following video... Strongest move in poker. Sergio's boy has raised, but he now has protection and flat calls.

The flop comes XXX. To be fair, I'm so obliterated at this point that it really does not matter what the flop is. Dankness bets, Sergio raises, dank calls. I proceed to ask nolan for a count. Mostly to piss him off, but also because I get a bit wet when I hear the Bostonian accent. We discuss various topics including the lobstering industry and how animals are raised for slaughter. I swear to never eat chicken again.

I believe we now go to the turn which was the X. Dank checks, and Sergio fires out a healthy pot sized bet. The live pros who folded preflop are now very interested in the hand. I order another goombay and proceed to get a count of at least 4 stacks. Dank mutters something about his hot girlfriend, and shows me a picture. I confirm hotness and he makes the call.

I make a pass at the attractive Bahamian dealer. She laughs and says she's not into skinny jewish boys. I tell her I have more than enough money to make up for my lack of personality, but she will have none of it.

The river comes the beautiful X of X. Dank jams home his last 500 american dollars and I turn to Sergio in hopes that something good will come of all this. Sergio grabs all of my chips and then leans forward and whispers in my ear...

"Daniel, why do I have 4 cards?"

      Just quick two questions:

      1. I'm quite new here, so it's a bit weird for me to read all of the comments, posts etc. and not to know who is who at the tables. That's why I'd like to ask if there is any thread on the forum where I can find your Stars ID's? If not, may I ask people who don't mind either to PM me or write it here? My player ID is the same as on 2+2

      2. Any of you also enjoy playing tournaments? Is anybody giving a try to TCOOP?

      Cheers!
