The money spent on war is not puny. Bush started it, Obama continued it. How can you not count that? The money spent bailing out the car industry/banks was not puny.
The social security program is a ****ing joke.
Like Ron Paul stated last night, we need to end the warfare/welfare state.
Also, the US has been in debt since it started. So yes, even if those things hadn't happened we would still have a bad debt.
Well, I guess what I was trying to say is that the last administration's actions seem a lot more like sabotage than anything else. How could they not know that cut taxes while starting a war not have such negative consequences on our budget? How could they not know that financial institutions wouldn't properly police themselves? I don't think the problem is as simple as lowering spending.
The economy and country would have been mostly fine if it weren't for this kamikaze style of Republican governing where the goal of smaller government is so important they're willing to blow up the deficit just to have an excuse to cut whatever they want.
If this concept of "must make government smaller now!" Hadn't existed, then I think the budget problems would have been much much smaller.
I also think it's kind of weird to say Obama continued the war. I guess he technically did, but he couldn't just pull the u.s. out all at once. What other alternative did he have?
Why is social security a joke? Its well funded for the next several decades, and if there wasn't an income limit for the tax then the program would be even better off. I don't think any retired people receiving it think its a joke.
I guess Ron Paul is right if we need to stop our warfare mentality, but I've never understood why he uses the word welfare as if its a curse word.
