its been hard to get games going on Merge for a bit afaik, even at the cheezeburger stakes
08-12-2012 , 12:43 PM
yeah it really seems that games higher than nl25 do not run with any consistency whatsoever on merge.

thanks a lot for some of the promo ideas guys. I already sent off the happy hour ideas and the badges/medals. Those ideas are freaking awesome and I don't know why I didn't think of them earlier, and tbh I have no idea why they haven't already been implemented by merge to some degree.

true, we see how well that worked out for me.

IMO they should concentrate on promotions to attract fish, because if they can convince the fish to play on Merge then the regs will of course follow (to an extent).

i dont understand why 30 nl25 games run and 2 nl50 run. they're not much different in difficulty and i know these ****s have more money. obv its not bbj related as 2 nl100 games running.

So you're crushing 50nl? Or do you crush 1-tabling the only 2/4 game that runs?

Also bonuses for table starters would be ****ing amazing.

- complacency
- lack of 'outside the box' thinking (only sticking to deposit/reload bonuses)
- lack of serious desire to innovate
- possibly a lack of a proper marketing/promotions division

Like I said, the post I made was off the top of my head and prob took me 3-5 minutes to write stream of consciousness style while taking time to come up with (mildly) funny, creative/attractive names and it's not like I have a marketing degree. I shudder to think what 4-5 people on the payroll could brainstorm in a month's time given the proper resources and insider knowledge about what's possible/feasible.
But merge/lock/cake/ipoker have only been around for a few years...

oh and last 2 nights had pretty solid steaks. First night ordered ribeye tonight ordered filet. They were close but filet > ribeye in this case. Not anything against ribeye but from the comments earlier here filet really getting shafted. Especially when they do that thing where they char the outside or w/e the filet has a ton of taste, and it's tender as **** just so good. Not that ribeyes aren't amazing or anything. Basically the only person who really fails is disco wtf chicken not even close to as good. I guess quads fails too last time I ate steak with him he ordered it well done. Like wtf?
08-13-2012 , 02:46 AM
lol. i mean chicken can be really really good but if you:

- get plain boring grilled chicken
or
- get some sauce-laden crap

it's obv not gonna be amazing.

Marinate it for 24 hrs in any number of sick marinade combos then toss it on the grill and you've literally got a different dish.

I actually think that's where chicken has a bit of an edge of sorts vs steak, in that with steak you usually just get the meat on the grill (and it's certainly delicious), but with chicken you can infuse a lot of flavour into it thru marinades and it sorta creates this deliciously charred, slightly sweet (but savoury at the same time) outside while keeping the perfectly cooked tender meat on the inside.

yes, i love food

It is pretty damn simple. No amount of rakeback will convince fish to play on the site. What you need is offline or high-profile online (ie not discorakeback.com) advertising. But that will not happen because it is very expensive and will result in other skins in leeching off of your fish. Reason why some networks (used to) work is because they have skins with major sportsbooks that have tons of fish by default.

Posted this in a different "regulars thread" that I just realized is nowhere near as popular as this one.

...

Hey guys, first time/long time.

I recently deposited on Carbon again after something like a 3 year hiatus. I have an old 35% rakeback deal from like 2007 that I'm pretty sure isn't even offered anymore. What is the current state of the VIP program? Is it worth it to switch over? Are the race for riches and various leaderboards significant enough to consider?

There was a recent paper published on gambling addiction and what drives it. I forgot where the article was, but one of the main conclusions is that the draw that makes gambling fun and addictive is the randomness. Types of gambling where people frequently won random amounts of money at random intervals were the most addictive. (think slot machines)

I think if you want to target fish and keep fish playing, you need to throw out promotions that feed gambling addiction. You need promotions that frequently, but randomly award players money.

That's why things like Pokerstars XXX billionth hand promotion works well. A few times a day, one lucky table is going to get paid. As an added benefit, Stars always paid the hand winner a lot more than the table, so people got to flip for their winnings. Most of the fish I've interacted with love flips. Actually, I like flips, too...hmmmm

The BBJ is great for encouraging play, but it just doesn't hit often enough.

The little glasses you could put on your table at paradise poker caused me to gleefully donk off thousands of dollars back in the day.

Just requested a check from BCP on 8/5, got approved today 8/13. Should be received in a couple days after approval. This is pretty solid IMO compared to what check times have been in the past.

Anyone gonna be in or around foxwoods in the near future? Prob gonna go chill with sebastian and maybe geoff (if the sand is removed in time). I'm sure a few of you other spritely young fellows would be a welcome addition.

Hey guys. So, I have to make arrangements to move back to the states in the next couple months. I was planning to maybe play some supplementary poker while I figured out where I was going to move next but I'm looking at the games and there are 5 100-1k tables running. Are the games completely dead and is this not a viable option?
