is this kid and his family actually serious?............. the one thing i did agree with that is almost never mentioned is the # of weeks pga pro's spend away from their homes and in many cases their families - and families travelling with them isn't probably the best arrangement anyway.

says he might not even feel fulfilled with jordan speith's golf success

my thoughts are:

obviously a rich and successful father........ i'm assuming starting up a silicon valley company and co-running it is alot easier for him than your average stanford grad - would love the article to have touched on that.

seems like he is already spending a huge amount of time/money/energy on golf......... so i think he's already there in terms of crazy commitment to golf in lieu of highly balanced life. and of course, silicon valley startup isn't exactly balanced life either.

in fairness, the family seems to be about "contribution to society" more than "balanced life" for his adult life. his child life seems balanced.

this family also does some pretty real, unique stuff for a rich family. i think the 3 sons shared a bedroom growing up even though they were filthy rich..... i used to live amongst alot of filipino's and it struck they were so happy living simple, fairly cramped lives. i thought i could learn alot from them.

anyway, any thoughts? thx advance

Seems like he could do more good as a known pro on tour as far as charity and raising money. No one is going to give a **** about this kid if he starts a business and plays the US Am every year.

I don't know much about this kid, but what if its just fear of failure?

“If you are an entertainer, it’s counterproductive from the standpoint that people stop doing anything and just sit and watch entertainers,” Scott said. “The guy serving you food at a golf tournament is in so many ways doing more good and moving the capitalist ball forward than Tiger Woods.” -Dad

Wow.

Wow.
Yeah, that quote jumped out at me as well.

Didn't Kuchar try working for an investment bank on leaving college before turning pro?

I think he said that was going to be his fall back job or something.

didn't know so much about kucher.... just knew that he didn't turn pro when probably 90%+ of non-rich family people would have.

anyway, googling came up with:

he turned down $2MM PER YEAR to stay amateur

signed with a management agency that mostly worked with models.

worked with niche I-banking firm in florida... but maybe didn't want to turn pro until after masters so he had lots of extra time to do a part-time second career at that point..... and suggestion alot of it was playing golf with clients

anyway, very interesting personality....... rich family??

When I think of Kutcher I think of his annoying dad carrying his bag for him in the AM

I understand golf could be considered a healthy hobby for the most part, but using that quote in an article that is at least partially about your son being a freak at golf seems contradictory. How much time have you allowed your son to put into a game that isn't helping humanity or "moving the capitalist ball forward" really? Also why the hell can't he just be a pro for 10 years at a game he loves then take up business ventures after? Shame on this kids dad for poisoning his sons mind with this idealistic crap. He's 20 and clueless about how much he'd regret not going for glory in the game he loves in what would mostly likely end up being his prime years for doing so.

Seems like fear of failure to me.. He's an extremely rich and talented kid but the top guys on tour are ****ing good, seems like he isn't sure he has what it takes.

Bizarre situation, I've seen talented ppl give up in their mid teens but they didn't have it. But to reach one of the tops amateurs in the world and not turn pro is strange. Didn't Trip Kehnue (spelling) not turn pro for a weird reason?

Dad's jealous of his son and trying to spin golf as being unimportant.

The lifestyle of traveling isn't for everyone. Although if you get to a level like Mickelson, you are taking a private jet everywhere.

Could be wrong but I think most tour players travel on private jets.

Most of the guys in the top 20 probably do, and I imagine they share them sometimes but I doubt some guy barely in the top 100 is flying private.

And along those lines, his dad could probably buy the tour.
