Worn out gloves

Not sure if it gonna be helpful but why not asking

Lately I noticed that all my gloves worn out the same way- a tear in the hypothenar eminence. Does it tell anything?
Too much pressure on my grip? Maybe bad grip?

As you can see in the 2nd picture (few rounds with this one) it’s already more used in the same area.
Should I be worried about it ?

PS. I guess I need to clean my grips as well

Re: Worn out gloves

Is that where the end of the club is in your hand? If so your probably gripping it to close to the end

Hypothenar eminence? are you a doctor?

JK I think it is pretty standard. Mine get worn out there and on the thumb first.

I just saw a Shawn Clement video that mentioned this very thing. According to him, it means you're leaving a gap between your left pinkie finger and the club, so the club moves around in that space on the swing and creates friction. He says you need to keep the end of the club up against your fingers so it doesn't move around on its own. His excellent videos are on Youtube.

Re: Worn out gloves

my gloves typically wear out first in the spot as well...

if you notice footjoy gloves usually have the glove reinforced in that area

Re: Worn out gloves

You are definitely "letting go of the club" at the top - like Stinky Stu mentioned. Place a tee or coin under the base of your hand (where the glove is wearing out) and hit some balls keeping it in place. The swing will feel shorter/more compact, but it will keep your hand from coming off the club at the top. As another poster mentioned, make sure you have 1/2 inch from the butt of the club to your top hand. Many players grip too far up to feel more club in their hands - adding some wraps or a midsize grip can cure that. Other times the club is too short.

Re: Worn out gloves

grip should be running through the bottom line of your fingers.

Re: Worn out gloves

Mine wear like that and I definitely hold the club all the way at the end. I didn't realize that was wrong but now I'll try to keep 1/2" choked down.

Re: Worn out gloves

question for people who get holes in their gloves, don't they get dried out and crusty from your sweat long before you wear a hole in them or are you wearing holes in them after only a couple weeks of use?

Re: Worn out gloves

I'm a financial nit so I wear gloves for a long time, long after they turn crusty and stained black. But I'd say it takes a while for them to get too crunchy. I always make sure I take the glove out of my bag when I get home and sit it out somewhere so it can evaporate and keep form. Usually when I start a round I have to put my glove on and make a few fists to loosen it up and stretch it out before I tee off on 1. It's also just so hot and humid down here that it moistens/loosens up right away.
