Best score to date. Just like me to start playing well as the season ends
We have golf year-round and that's a semi-brag, but it's hot as hell in the summertime afternoons (sheesh, today's high is gonna be 106) and the overseeding the courses do in October really rapes the course and it takes around a month or two to fully recover.
Anyway, I witnessed the close of our 32-man match play event yesterday. I was bounced three months ago in the round of eight after winning the previous two matches but managed to worm my way into most of the final matches as an interested observer. Shot a 79 with two doubles and no birdies, pretty meh.
The match sucked though, ugh. One guy came out really nervy. They halved the first hole with bogeys but he kept playing like ass and the other guy settled down just enough to take a 5-up lead through nine and then won 7&6. The guy who lost is a five handicapper who shot a 90 on a pretty easy course. In the twelve holes of the match only had a single par - once complete he had a few over the last six holes. He lamented showing up without a hangover as he said he plays better in that condition and proceeded to get quite hammered by the end of the round on chewing tobacco, a big cigar, and chugging Three Olives Grape from a bottle I brought out. We weren't teetotalers either - between the four of us we almost killed an entire 1.75 liter bottle.
EDIT: it should be noted that in addition to pride, the final payouts were like $850 or so for first and around $500 for second.
