86 +14 around a track I’m not a big fan of the more I play it, was a super long round everyone flocked to the golf courses whilst the queens funerals on and to not help matters at least 1 of my playing partners had to hit provisional what seemed like on every hole.

39-42-81 - One day tourney.

1 birdie, 2 doubles, 1 triple

First the good. Two-putt birdied one of the par 5s.

The bad. Just can't get off to a good start in these things. First hole played was a 365y par 4. 3 hybrid off of the tee and cut it into the fairway bunker. Also should mention I didn't get a chance to hit the range before thanks to traffic. Hit 9 iron out well, but miss the green left. Get up, can't find it. Then see it buried in the lip on the edge furthest away from the green. So I'm buried on the downslope with thick grass directly behind and a few inches above the ball. Managed to actually make contact, but not good enough and left it on the near vertical grass face of the bunker. Make good contact with that one and over the Donald Ross green it goes. Actually did good to get up and down from there for the double.

The triple was lol bad. Only bad tee shot of the day i thin a hybrid and hit it in a stream 100 years ahead of the tee box. Then have to lay up out of the worst grass I have ever seen. Have PW left to the green and thin run it all the way on. Then proceed to 3-putt from 60 feet.

Actually hit 3 drivers on the day, all on par 5s. First one I hit into a fairway bunker I didn't know was there. Next two were good where I had under 200 into the par 5's. Progress.

50 36/127

Only one par...played the mens club after driving to LAX and back (6+hours). First hole was a quad. Putting is still atrocious: 22 putts. 4 fairways, only 2 GIRs.

played pretty solid today.

Playing round a proper rack tomorrow which will be a test. Not super long but from the last time I played it like 10 years ago and from the improvements they've done, it's a pretty tricky test. They hold the Rose Ladies thing here, I think it's where it all started to be honest.

Got invited last minute to play a best ball tourney today. We got -1 for 18. Started on 10. Even par 10 to 18. Then -1 holes 1 to 9. We missed tons of 15 to 25 foot birdie putts. We used lots of my tee shots(several drivers, two 3 woods, and two 20 foot putts on par 3s) but my iron game wasnt good from the fairway. Only 2 or 3 of my par 4 or 5 approaches were used. I didnt hit a meaningful putt until the last hole(9) I hit the 10 footer for par.

Was fun. Cart golf is easy.

I'll take a 84 around that track today, Didn't really hit a good shot till like the 6th hole. Greens are slick and super tricky. If you don't have a short game or can't putt you'll get found out pretty quick around here.

Not going to lie, I didn't enjoy playing a course as good as this with 2 28hc'ers, They we the type no practice swings just go up and hit it. Where is me I'll take 4-5 swings then hit. Then on the greens they'll just hit their putts and I'm marking, cleaning my ball, looking at the line etc... Felt like I was kind of slowing them down even though we wasn't going anywhere.

but overall a really good day and enjoyed playing the course a ton, It's on my list to become a member of this place sometime.

4-5 practice swings on every shot seems super excessive TBH. Makes sense on certain short game shots where it is super feel based. I usually go without practice swings on full shots if they are standard, but currently working on some swing changes, so I'll go with 1-2 to get the feel I want on driver, and I do a partial takeaway over the ball on iron/woods shots, but not a full practice swing.

4-5 is a lot, especially if they're "full" practice swings where you line up, swing, reset, etc. and not just a fluid back and forth thing.

Also, nothing drives me up the wall more than someone extremely slow on the greens while also being a bad putter (not saying that's you, United).

Practice swings is more just getting the arms/body moving for me, It's not very intentional in the sense I don't really stop after 1 swing and then restart if that makes sense I'm just working on what I want to feel in the shot. I really take way more time on my pitch chip shots as I'm trying to get a certain feeling from the bounce of the club depending on the shot I want, I know I do this so I try and get ahead of my group and get to my ball.

I'm pretty fast on the greens imo but when you have 2 people who just don't pay any attention to any putts and you're the only one doing so you sort of feel the need to hurry up. All I basically do is mark and clean the ball replace straight after if it's not on anyone's line and then go look at my line whilst other people are putting. Then when it's my turn all I need to do is do a couple of practice putts and go.

I'm playing Raindance National this weekend. It just opened in July and it's the longest golf course in North America, oddly enough designed by Fred Funk. Trying to decide which tees to play?

If you want to end up hating golf by the end of the day go with the tour

If I were to play it and for someone who doesn't hit it very far I'd probs end up on the whites.

When I play courses like this I tend to pick out one or two holes and play them from the tips. I think I would choose #8 and #13. Can't say I have ever seen a 270 yard par 3 before.

I'm not very good and would probably play the blues, but I like this plan.

It's a par 3 course, but #13 is 276y. A lot of people say this is an easy course, but there are at least a handful of hard holes.

WTF? Three par 4's playing 587 or longer? 587?

I know it's altitude and all but by the math the course is still 7900 yards at sea level from the tips,

Yeah that scorecard gets an unbelievable amount of length from 4/5/10.

Depend on how the course is set up sometimes if I want to make my own set of combos, I like playing either par 3's or par 5's from a teebox shorter.

Another tale of two rounds:

Wednesday: 43 - 45 = 88

Everything was wrong. Couldn’t putt (almost all speed), driver was horrible. It’s also time to accept the fact I’m a well below average wind player, which is rough on the Oregon coast. It wasn’t just swing, I had a horrible time judging the wind. So many shots went long, and so many went short. Just a horrible day.

Today: 39 - 38 = 77

Everything went right. I was +1 going into 14, and bogeyed four of the last five holes. Closer to pars than doubles, just a bit of trouble (bunker, tough spot over a bunker to tucked pin, stymied behind a tree). Putting was great, hacked the driver around a bit on the front but got it going on the back. Wedges were on.

Funny game.

75 +6

Was a team event so I played some shots I don't normally play,

Couple of highlights, Nearly holed out for Eagle on the 11th, On the 15th we are playing into a northly wind which is the worst for this golf course I hit a crap drive probably went like 180, then I hit a meh 3 wood which went into the right rough because I went a bit right I had about 175 out of some rough. It wasn't a bad lie but wasn't great either. I batted a 4 iron out of it and it was the best shot I hit all day landing to about 20 feet past the hole. Missed the Birdie sadly.

Not my highlight but 1 worth mentioning this 24 Handicapper that I was playing with holed out for his first ever Eagle, was great to see, He started the back 9 Par Birdie Eagle.

Got the par 5s -2 at my home course today. Both 2 putts after some stellar long iron approaches. Lower average per hole on the 5s than the 4s today. golf

42-38 80. 6 fairways 11 greens 38 putts (sigh). Bad double on one with an awful 3 putt but other than that no doubles which I’m always aiming for.

oh I forgot to add a funny moment after we finished,

We were sat around outside having a drink, This 4 ball with one other guy walking round with them turned up. Got a buggy and got some rental clubs. They get the buggy and put their stuff on it and then 2 of them get on it and drive right across the 1st tee. We had a polite word with them and said they should get it off. So they did.... They drive it off but across and over the path but about 30 yards front and right of the 1st tee, Instead of putting it right beside the 1st tee (There is a path right next to it). So they get out. Then they proceeded to unhook the bags off the buggy and walk to the 1st tee with the bags on the their backs, Instead of just pulling out a club, ball and tee.

They tee off, 2 went left and 2 went miles right. More right than forward. The 3rd hole runs right of the 1st hole and they are on it, Along side the right of the 3rd hole the 9th fairway creeps on you. He hit his 2nd shot and shanks it and went on the 9th fairway. I actually think he made this hole longer than it actually is. Think the hole is like 300, From where he was he probably had 325

I was in tears laughing I know I shouldn't, but I've never seen anything like it. Quite possibly the worse golfers I've ever seen. They took around 30 mins to finish out the 1st. I was waiting for them to come down the 3rd but they took way to long.

My friend who was teeing off with his Dad and Brother about 40 mins after they started the 1st, caught up with them on the 3rd, They did a good thing and let them through quickly but during being let through one of them asks my friend how they should hold the club

Lol indeed. Turns out length isn’t even close to the most difficult aspect of the course. I’ll post a trip report and pics later, after I ice my balls for a while.

Played the purple tees at Raindance National, so ~7700 yards. Holes 4 and 5 at 552 and 542 for par 4's were nuts. There wasn't much wind, but one of them was into it. The thing about this course is its surprisingly narrow and has hazards everywhere. It plays through a lot of arroyo and in a lot of places there is native just off the fairway, and then a cliff. Any significant miss is usually off the planet. But the toughest part of the course was the greens. They were very undulated and kind of Pete Dye style. They had a lot of spines in them and if you hit on the wrong side the ball could move 50 feet. The really dumb thing was there were a lot of pins at the bottom of a tier with steep slope, and if you were on top putting down it was literally impossible to stop the ball within 15 feet unless you hit the flag. Lots of approaches where the green is behind a bunker or a feature so you can just see the flag made it tough. I really didn't expect narrow fairways with hazards on both sides with crazy greens on some stupidly long holes.

I ended up shooting 86, and there may have been a mulligan or 2 in there..... My handicap is 0, and I played about the same as I did yesterday on my home course when I shot 75. I can't imagine playing that place if my game was off, or there was any kind of bad weather.

It was fun to play once as a novelty. I would never want that as a home course. Overall I think while its really interesting, but the design is pretty dumb. It's like they looked at everything that can be done to make it more difficult and just checked all the boxes. It was the hardest course I've ever played, tougher than Whistling Straits and Erin Hills that I played this summer. I have a feeling they will eventually redo the greens to make them more rational. The problem is I don't see how they can fix the tight landing spots on long holes with all the arroyo. When they finish building all the houses planned and the course gets busy, 6 hour rounds are going to be standard.

This is the clubhouse. It lets you know right away when you drive up that this is going to be different.

Even the tee markets were dangerous.....It's probably a matter of time until a drunk person trips on one of these and impales himself.

>200 yard par 3

Nice wide fairway on the 506 yard par 4 15th

Looks awesome.

40-39-79

1 birdie, 2 doubles

Played the tips in prep of the club championship in 2 weeks. My swing was garbage but I limped around decently.

Course closes tomorrow in prep for hurricane. This is gonna be the worst one here in around 100 years. Should be interesting.
