Very nice results!

38

2 birdies, 4 bogeys, 3 pars

Played Thanksgiving Point in Lehi, UT. They had a web.com event there last year. Would have played 18 but saw lightning and called it a day. Played the tips which for 18 would be 7,716y 77.6/145. Honestly didn't find that course difficult at all, at least on the front.

Elevation is 4,500 feet and it sure is fun to drive the ball at elevation. Longest one was 361y off of the 9th. Now learning distances for irons was a complete lost cause. I was just guessing all day long.

71 qualified for us mid am. I doubled 18 after hitting a 4 iron OB off the tee on a tight dumb hole. I played like crap and was still 1 over through 17, literally couldn't make a swing at the ball.

Chipped and putted well.

75 got me into the state mid am (secondary qualifier) at the end of September, so that's good. 71 at that course should have been easy, ugh. Next year.

gg - Lone Tree, right? I've never played the course well; just enough odd holes including 18.

glgl in the state mid-am; I'm playing the western slope state mid-am qualifier next Monday as I haven't played an individual stroke play tournament all season and want to see how I do. Most years it's poorly attended; thus far only 10 signed up. Will be for one spot and I'm literally still 100-1 dog, but it'll be fun to see if what I've been working on can translate at all to a tournament.

Thanks. Ya, the course doesn't suit me at all. I'm not hitting my gap-lob wedges well at all, and so much of the scoring on that course is hitting shots from 80-140 yards close.

GL in the tournament. This is my first year in over a decade playing in more than like 1 tournament, and actually having expectations to do well. I've had some good rounds, but days like today remind me that it's hard to swing freely when you care about the outcome, especially on courses that are visually tight. It's a good litmus test for what needs work.

41-40-81 - Soldier Hollow Gold - Midway, UT
1 birdie, 2 doubles

Played it at 7,719y and 75.4/141. My 81 was a 4.5 differential. They played the 2012 US Amateur PubLinks there.

Obv at 5,500 ft of elevation that distance is gonna play quite a bit less. There was 1 par 3 under 200y and no par 4s under 400y (and only 5/12 were under 450y). I actually was tired by the end of the round after hitting 14 drivers on the day, which never happens to me.

I'm playing their other course tomorrow morning provided that I wake up in time. That one is a lowly 7,355y. I might even move up a tee tomorrow and play it a touch under 7k. Playing these long courses is fun but I certainly wouldn't want to do it every day.

39 - Soldier Hollow Silver

2 birdies, 3 bogeys, 1 double, 3 pars

Played 2 tees up today playing only 3,270. Hit a lot of 3 woods off of the tee. Game was a complete mess. The two birdies were getting up and down on the par 5's. Hit the range after and figured some things out. See if they stick tomorrow.

39-41-80 - Disney Palm - Florida Mid-Senior Am

1 birdie, 11 pars, 4 bogeys 1 double, 1 triple

https://www.fsga.org/tournament/resu.../?fileId=19892

I'm sitting T-110. Top 60 and ties make the cut so I have a slim chance of making it. The leader is -9. That's just amazing to me. I am genuinely shocked how low the scores are.

I like Reunion Watson course tomorrow. Disney Palm has never been my favorite and my least favorite hole on the course bit me again. I hit into the lateral off the tee on just a tremendously bad swing. Then had to lay up of short of the water on the approach. Proceeded to catch the biggest flyer ever and sailed the green by 20 yards. Left the chip short of the green, then almost holed out for double, tap-in triple.

Also had 2 3-putt bogeys on long lag putts. Otherwise I putted fairly decently. Chipping was about a B only because of one bladed chip which is where the double came from.

Oh, it was lift, clean and cheat in closely mowed areas today, which is where the low scores likely came from. Funny I never had mud on my ball except for when I hit it in the rough, when you can't touch it.

77 - Reunion Watson

3 birdies, 2 doubles, 4 bogeys, 9 pars

Round 2, finished with a 2-day total of 157 which before the event I thought would be good enough to make the cut. I missed by 5 shots. Just by simple turning my 3-putts over the 2 days into 2-putts and I make the cut on the number.

Night and day ball striking compared to yesterday. Driver didn't behave early costing me 3 shots including driving one OB on a par 5 then taking a 7. My other double was when I had a hanging lie from 93y out and hit right under the bare lie leaving me 40y to go. Then 3-putted.

Good round, solid finish even with the MC.

42-40-82. 2 birdies, 2 double bogeys. 70.2/125, just over 6000 yards.

Never thought we'd get the round in, let alone play 18 holes with nothing more than mist. It was capital-p pouring on the way to the course, rained hard right up to about 20 minutes before tee time. Course was wet but almost no standing water.

R flex driver experiment is not looking promising, sprayed the ball including a reintroduction to my old miss, the giant hook. Probably going to use something different tomorrow to try and get my swing back in order before further experimenting. I hit quite a few hybrids and one 3 wood off the tee, so probably no more than five or six drivers, only one of which was good.

Got lots of chipping practice. Putting improved midround after a technique change.

Okay, it was a par 3 course, but a pretty mean executive one. They put in new back tees on a lot of holes and I wound up using every club except my driver at least once. The average hole length in 140 yards and the green are small, fast, and mean.

Back at the home course. Course was soaked from about 3" of rain last night so we moved up a tee. Was +4 through 6 holes then -1 the last 12. My 3 birdie putts totaled about 6 feet.

No tournaments for the next few weeks to time to relax and enjoy golf for a bit.

39-44-83. 1 birdie, 4 double bogeys.

Days like today are why I could never live in the South full time. It was only 85 or so but so humid there was fog until early afternoon. Just whipped afterward.

Hit some really, really awful shots. Popped up a couple drives. Chunked shots with the 3 wood and the wedges. Skulled two chips on a par 3 for one of the doubles. Dunno what's going on. Did manage to right the ship at the end with pars including a putt stopping one rotation short of birdie on the very difficult 18th.

Shot 39-41 80 (70.5/127 - tipped out at 6,400 yards hoot) in my mid-am qualifier yesterday.

Was my first ever non-handicapped event and I think I played pretty decent. In fact I was +4 through 11 and was hitting it okay, making lots of putts when I yanked a par-3 tee shot, hit two cart paths and went into a pond. A bad chip that didn't get on the green and two putts lead to a triple that didn't help my cause.

73 was medalist, 74 and 76 also got in; so I, like everyone else for didn't qualify can easily think of those 4-5 shots that would have been the difference. Although I made more than my share of putts. Differential was just under my index, so it was a solid day for me.

I played for the experience and I like tournament golf - looking forward to continuing to work on my game and play more.

39 (par 35). No birdies or double bogeys.

Pretty decent for lol Tuesday night golf. A couple lipouts, a couple chunks, nothing horrible. I think I figured out one of my driver flaws, I get too steep.

+1 through 8 holes. 3 birdies, 1 double bogey.

Chased off the course by lightning, followed by a deluge. Too wet.

Two awful 3 woods, otherwise solid. Just missed a fourth birdie on the 8th when the horn blew. Irons dialed in, they feel so nice when you hit them flush.

Too much rain here. Both courses and both the long and short ranges closed the last 2 days. Actually short range has been closed for several weeks now. No rain yet today but it's early. 20" of rain in August for us.

New best score at my home course today. 40-36 76 (6,550y 70.2/131 - 5.0 differential) Have a handful of 78s before.

6 birdies, 4 pars, 6 bogies 2 doubles. Hit 11 greens; 29 putts (One three putt). Never had more than 4 birdies in a round at my course or elsewhere. Didn’t get up and down once for par but two of my birdies were greenside in two on par 5s and did get those up and in. Birdie putts were 6’, 15’, 7’, <1’, 5’, and 4’.

Played the combo tees (12 one-up tees and 6 two-up tees) which are 175 yards shorter than my normal (6,725y 71.4/132)

Had a lesson a week and a half ago and have made a breakthrough with my long game - feeling an exaggerated left knee bend on the backswing - ripping it. Super pumped for fall golf.

3 birdies, 10 pars, 4 bogeys, 1 double

The double was a shank on the 5th after having to pitch back out to the fairway. Then got up and down for double from 60y out.

Struggled on the way in bogeying 3 of the last 5. I blame not playing for a week.

42 (par 37). 2 birdies, 2 double bogeys.

Went back to a Ping i20 driver and hit it well. I'm very tempted to hit up a Titleist fitting event this weekend to check out the TS2 and TS3, but for the time being it's back to Ping. Also picked up a chipping tip at the end of Sunday's round and it worked well. Had some putter issues and a couple brain cramps but not a bad round for LOL Tuesday night golf.

Two OB shots and a lateral off the tee lead to the doubles. Played the tips at 6,600 and 73.0/147. Course is still soaked to not only no roll, but the ball plugs and it's hard to find. Can't wait for the damn dry season to arrive.

Highlights include zero warmup, a 6 iron i pulled about 50 yards on the par 3 2nd hole for bogey, followed up by a pull hook into the water hazard on the easiest birdie hole on the course (par 5 3rd hole). Smooth sailing from there aside from a missed 2-2.5 footer on 11.

Five birdie attempts from inside 8-9 feet on the front 9 with only one make.

15 greens in reg including 8 on the back plus a putt from a couple inches into the fringe on 18.
