quick summary of this trip: we had tee times at bandon preserve on 1/4, but they received a fluke snow the day before we got there and all courses were closed.

played bandon on 1/5 and old mac on 1/6, 3 hour frost delays both days but the temps warmed up into the high 40s and the rounds were great, sadly we elected to skip pacific (my favorite course) on 1/7 to drive back to portland before the predicted ice storm hit pdx (in hindsight this was the correct play because travel after dark on 1/7 would have been much more sketchy than driving home during daylight...an inch of ice on the road is nothing to **** with).

eight people from our group of 24 stayed behind and played pacific on 1/7 and experienced enough wind and rain to cause a few people to walk off after 6 holes and the others to question why they finished the round (and these are folks that have played year round in oregon for several decades).

2 rounds at Bandon >>>> no rounds at Bandon.

Talking about some warm weather around here this week, if we don't get too much rain might be some courses open next weekend. I could have played on January 1, been regretting that I didn't.

i agree with this 1000% it was not the trip we expected but it was the trip we got.

that said, Pacific is by far my favorite course i've ever played and i was really bummed i didn't get to play it again this year (ignoring the actual weather situation). among all the other fantastic holes, those back to back 3 pars at 10 and 11 are just sublime.

Wednesday at my local:

50-49-99. 2 pars, 9 bogeys rest worse including two 6's on par 3's... Wasn't striking the ball well at all for the most part, though did hit middle fairway on the p5 18th then smoked my 2hybrid 25m further than usual to find the bunkers instead of leaving me a wedge out, so made a disappointing 6 to finish.

Thursday at another nearby course. Par 70, it was the monthly back marker stroke challenge. On this day they usually put all the pins in really tough spots too.

52-44-96

1 birdie, 3 pars, 5 bogeys rest worse - including an 8 on one of the par threes What'd You Shoot Today? (Golf BBV Thread)

Only 29 putts. Score could've been a lot lower for a few reasons. Got super unlucky on a couple of approaches where I'd hit the edge and roll back vs. rolling at the pin, and smoked a perfect tee shot on one of the par 3's that carried to the front edge but trickled back into the bunker (still got up and down tho What'd You Shoot Today? Slowly figuring out how to hit my driver, so that should help me going forward!

Inter-club match play again today.

Won my match 2 and 1, lost the 4 ball match 1 down. My partner lost his singles match 5 and 4.

Front 9 I had 7 pars, a quad and a bogey. Knocked 2 OB on the 2nd hole for the quad. I more or less hit iron off the tee to just stay in play after that. Since we were playing white tees hitting an iron didn't hurt me at all.

Highlight (or lowlight of the day) was the 11th hole where I was getting a shot. I hit tee shot in the water, opponent dribbles off the tee in the trees. His second shot hits a tree and he has even longer to go. 3rd shot back in fairway. My 3rd shot I hit 7 iron and catch a jumper over green. Opponent 4th shot lands short of green. I go look for my ball and it's OB by 6 inches. I go back and take 7iron for my 5th shot, catch an even bigger jumper and go over green (in bounds). 6th shot I have impossible lie to elevated green and take putter, hit it to 10 feet. Opponent's 5th shot he skulls 40 feet past. We both 2 putt, me for quad, him for triple, and with my shot on the hole we halve.

Good stuff.

11 gross pars on the day so some holes were good.

Made it to Naples Wednesday evening. Been in the snow for a few months so Thursday was a warm up round: 43-43 86. Hit it okay (only 6 GIR) and putted decent. Just a few hazards that cost any chance of a good round.

Today I kept a clean card in the penalty shot row and went 39-38 77 for my best round in ages and a very fun day. Hit 9 GIR, 32 putts (including 2 3-putts) and had a two putt birdie and a chip in birdie.

Weather has been 81 and sunny the entire time. Not missing the snow.

The Quarry is the course I'm staying/playing:

My worst 9 holes that I have had in I don't know how long.

42-52--94

Wind was 15-20 and downwind for most of the front 9. On the 9th hole it was like a switch was turned on and it was up to 30 mph. On one hole I hit 6 iron from 140y.

Three triples and only one par on the back. Combo of bad luck and bad play, but I really didn't think I was playing THAT bad.

Lost a ball next to the green today on our index #1 hole, which should've resulted in no worse than a bogey, instead I had to take a wipe (it was 30-odd degrees celsius, fk walking 190m back to play what would've been my 4th)
Then out of frustration I had a total air swing on the tee two holes later. My ball managed to fall off the tee, so I was playing my second from the tee box What'd You Shoot Today? (Golf BBV Thread)

And just because today couldn't be any more FML, my car caught fire on the way home

Peter Hay Par 3 Course at Pebble Beach. Never even knew there was such a thing until I googled this morning looking for info on driving around Pebble Beach.

Played 2 balls - 29 and 29 - 1 birdie, 3 bogeys, 5 pars on each ball.

Hit one to 6 inches for the shot of the day.

Used rental clubs and had to buy some "experienced" balls for the day, an e6 and a ProV1 for $2 each. Cost was $30 plus the $5 for rental clubs. You can play all day if you want. Much cheaper (albeit less fun) than paying $495.

Interclub match today. I played a 75yo who was a 5 cap, me a 6. I shot 41-38-79 and won my match 4 and 2. My partner halved his match. He is a 4 cap and shot 75 and played the head pro of their club who was a scratch and he shot 70.

So we win and draw our singles matches and ..... lose 5 and 4 in the 4 ball match.

Wednesday Ballina GC:

51-47-98

3-putted both birdie attempts, but I did get the phone # of the cute blonde girl who works behind the bar.

Today @ my local (Byron Bay GC):

47-48-95

Hit some highlight reel wedges, including a 115m PW up over the highest trees (probably ~25-30m) and dropped it 15 feet from the hole. Three-putted the birdie attempt but still a wicked shot.
Also put my 60' wedge within 5 feet on 12 and 15 from 66m and 53m respectively. Missed both par putts though, gotta work on that!

That's now 5 consecutive rounds <100. Hitting the ball a lot better, just need to start converting on the greens

Back-to-back match play days for me. This time the round of 32 at my club. Ended up winning 3 and 2. Had to give 5 shots to my opponent. Was 3 up on the turn not losing a hole. Key was getting halves on all of the holes where he got a shot. Lost 10 and 11 to go 1 up, then rolled off 3 in a row. Actual score was 39-42--81.

Playing a 2 man scramble tomorrow. Will be lucky to break 70 with the partner I have.

I did it!

After what seems like the longest slump ever, I finally carded a good score on comp-day!

46-43-89 (par71) for 42 stableford points.

4 pars, 10 bogeys, 4 doubles and 31 putts.

Not super straight off the tee, but for the most part I kept myself well away from trouble and was putting for par on 14/18 holes which for a 24 handicapper is pretty solid! Greens still not 100% after being cored a month ago, so misjudged the weight on a few. Definitely left a few shots out there so pretty happy!

Played my last interclub match of the season as we will not advance.

My opponent today was a 6 hcp (me a 7) so I only received one shot. 20+mph wind today. Highlight was the nutted 111y 9 iron.

Didn't start out good (was on the road all week and didn't play), opening tee shot hits a palm tree and never drops. I shot 43 on the front, opponent 36 and I was 4 down making the turn.

I am 5 down after 11, then the comeback happens. I get it to 1 down going into the 17th, a 152y par 3. Pin is tucked behind a bunker but I hit one of my better shots of the day to 15 feet. Opponent come up short and is on the fringe about 30 feet away. He steps up and drains it and I need to make to extend the match. I walk mine in and we are headed to 18.

Nothing exciting happens, fairway, green and par, and I lose 1 down.

Hard to keep track during a match but I was -1 the last 7 holes. Ended up shooting 37 on the back for an 80 on the day.

Just had a lesson, really didn't 'get' what the pro was trying to do. Some of the teachings wrt my weight transfer and my hip movement was good and I take that onboard, but he did mess a bit with my swing path. Decided to throw that out the window and go out for 9 with a mate afterwards, and swung like I did on Wednesday. Shot 42 for the 9, with 2 pars, 6 bogeys and one double. Pretty happy!

36-43--79

2 birdies, 2 doubles, 5 bogeys, 9 pars

Played great on the front, not so great on the back. Ball striking was really good early. Progress.

Yesterday was 43-43-86

Beautiful day windy. Didn't do anything particularly bad but didn't do anything great either. Didn't miss anything from 5 feet in on the green until 17. Almost aced it then missed the 3 foot left to right slider coming down the hill. Pretty tilting too when your last 2 putts from 25 plus feet lipped out. Short game was surprisingly sound and avoided those one or two big numbers that tend to eat my round up. Played the par 5's like a complete amateur though.

Oh and I left out the best part. Making the turn my dad's playing partner finds a bag of coke next to 10th tee cart path. Easily $250+ in street value. My pops when we catch up to the group in front of us slyly asks if they are missing anything? One kid responds are you a cop but they eventually end up saying it isn't theirs. My dad is a former addict so I had the luxury of watching him pour it out after the round. Tough watching money burn man.
