Since this was one of my better tee to green rounds ever, time for a shot by shot review.

1 - First tee jitters and I hit a pull cut that catches a tree but gets through it somewhat and I am only a pace or two off the fairway. 5 iron punch under a tree for my second back to the fairway. 141 left and I stripe a wedge...that goes 155y (was downwind). My chip has to stay low to stay under a branch and I hit a good one to about 12 feet. Miss the putt and make the 3 footer comeback for bogey.

2 - Hit hybrid to the middle of the fairway. 145y out and I nail a wedge again and miss the green long by about 10 yards. Chipped it good but caught a bad hop on the fringe and leave myself 8 feet. Miss the putt and tap in for bogey.

3 - Fairway again with hybrid. 150y back into a 10-15 mph breeze onto the back of the green. Lag the 35 footer to 2 feet and make par.

4 - 167y 7 iron to 15 feet over pin. Make the fast one coming down the hill for birdie.

5 - Hybrid to left side of fairway leaving be 206y to the pin. Wind hurting a bit but I am killing irons today (about a full club longer) so I hit a sweet looking 5 iron cutting back to the pin, and it lands 5 yards short of the green. Chip it to about 5 feet, then miss the par putt. Tap in bogey.

6 - Hybrid on the fairway. Have 170y and hit 7i to about 25 feet. 2 putt par.

7 - Hit a solid hybrid and cut the corner a bit onto the left side of the fairway. 170y and I hit a soft little 7 iron over the pin to about 15 feet. 2 putt par.

8 - Playing 197 dead into the wind. Hit a nice low 4 iron that doesn’t cut and leaves me 50 feet under the hole. Putt up the hill and leave it 4 feet short. Miss the next and take a 3 putt bogey.

9 - Hybrid in the fairway, 5 iron layup and I have 88 yards left. Hit a great 58* to 10 feet below the hole. Of course I miss it and make par.

10 - Solid hybrid to right side of the fairway on a tight driving hole. 133y left and I ease a 50* right into the front bunker. Hit a good shot to 6 feet and make it for a par.

11 - Good drive in fairway. 7 iron second shot I lose it left and short. Picked the chip shot too good and leave 15 feet coming back. 2 putt bogey.

12 - Fairway off the tee, but short. 8 iron tugged a touch right. Chip to 5 feet and yep, miss it and make bogey.

13 - Hit driver and pull it into the trees. Grass is knee high and I somehow find it. I have a shot back out the fairway. Swing away with a 7 iron and shank it, but catches another opening back into the left rough. I have 186y left and nail a 6 iron that lands 1 foot away but rolls out to 20 feet. 2 putt par.

14 - 50* wedge to 30 feet. Downhill slider and I am happy to lag it to a foot and make par.

15 - Driver to cut the corner of the dogleg right and nail it. 83y to the pin (300+drive) and I hit the 58* just right of the pin to 10 feet. Miss it and make par.

16 - Driver to cut the corner on this dogleg and I have 42y to the pin (300+ drive #2). Knock it 10 feet past the hole and yet another 2 putt par.

17 - Playing 177y and I hit a soft 6 iron to 20 feet right of the hole. 2 putt par.

18 - Good drive on left side of fairway. Still have 277y to go so I hit 5 iron layup horribly left. Have a shot to green but leave it 5 yards short. Chip up to a foot and make par.

If I just make a couple of putts I best my career low of 75.

44-42-86. Mixed feelings on this round. Didn't lose a ball for the first time ever I think. Putted awfully, 3 3-putts and probably deserved 1 or 2 more. Scrambling was utterly mediocre as well.

41-44-85. 1 birdie, 3 double bogeys. 7/13 fairways, 7/18 greens, 32 putts.

Weird round. Minor swing adjustment led to better contact and straighter shots but at a cost of some distance. Hit a couple good pitches with the 56* niblick, if I practice a little it has potential to be a significant upgrade to the short game. Putting was awful.

2 birds, 6 bog, 29 putts

As good as I can expect to play. Lipped out 2 putts that were more in the hole than out of it. Missed 2 other 4 footers. Could'a, would'a, should'a, been in the 72-74 range. Very happy!!

5 rounds in 3 days on our yearly group trip. This time to Osoyoos and Oliver in the BC Okanagan on some tracks we played 4-6 years ago.

46-45-91 (Osoyoos Desert Gold, 6500 yards, 71.6/140)
42-44-86 (Osoyoos Park Meadows, 6351 yards, 70.5/122)
45-49-94 (Fairview Mountain, 6573 yards, 72.0/134)
41-48-89 (Fairview Mountain, 6171 yards, 70.2/129)
39-44-83 (Nk'Mip, 6397 yards, 70.5/129)

Definitely played better than what I scored. Second round on Fairview we moved up to the blues from the blacks and that 89 was with two quads and a triple -- oof.

Fairview Mountain is a great track for anyone who goes through Oliver, BC. Lots of great golf in the area and locals don't play at all in the afternoons, too hot for them. Perfect for us.

41 on an unfamiliar course to me. Missed 2 birdie putts inside of 10 feet. Also 3-putted 2 greens in reg as well. The first hole is just a WTF were they thinking. 291y from the blue tees, dead straight. There is a bunker 240y out right of the fairway. That's it.

Not like it's a short course either, playing around 6700 from those tees. 3 par 4's over 400 on the front and a 545y par 5. If you are gonna have that hole them put it later on the course. I guess that's what happens when you route the course between houses.

34 (par 35). 2 birdies, no double bogeys.

Wish I knew why some days everything feels good. Got out there late, didn't take so much as a single warmup swing. Didn't matter. The only bogey I made was on the first hole where a chip didn't roll out as much as anticipated. Otherwise, everything was dialed in. Last two iron shots of the day so pure.

2 double, 2 birds..

Interesting due to playing last 4 holes in the dark. Last 2 holes in pitch black. Darkest I have ever played. Did not loose a ball. Was +2 for the 4 holes.

Playing in the dark is always interesting. One day I remember seeing about 5 groups peel off the course as we kept playing. The approach to 18 you couldn't see it 5 feet off of the club. The splat sound it made when it hit the green was awesome though.

It was so quite out. Just listening for where the ball might land. Then splat. We were all laughing at it..thats cool you remember the sounds.

My putting was actually good in the dark. You can not see any break so just aim for the hole. Probably a good idea anyway.

40-39-79.

(6000 yds)

2 birdies, both with mis-struck wedges that knuckled close to the hole.

9 bogeys, 3 of which were 3-putts. I also struggled to judge the roll out on several other chips and pitches.

hit driver well, irons were ok, not hitting it that close for birdies and putting was meh and chipping was ok on the couple greens I missed

Entered my club championship. Its my 1st ever tournament. $20 entry. 27 holes total. 9 holes after work today. 18 holes tomorrow. I entered as a 9 handicap (which is legit but, I have been playing the best golf of my life. So I have been playing better than my handicap recently). My 1st tee shot was hit poorly and only went about 100 yards. Maybe I was nervous?? Scrambled for a bog. Bog on the 1st 4 holes and par on the next 5. Was happy with how I played. Very steady, not trouble.

40 for the 1st 9 holes. 18 more to go.

One thing I found interesting. One of the players in my 4 some played NCAA division 1. He works at the golf course. He is about 30 yo. He hits his 5 wood 250 yards. I hit my driver 250 yards. He registered as a 7 handicap. At the start of the round I thought that was a huge sandbag. He was even after 7 holes.

He quad bog on 8th and doubled 9th for a +6 for the 9 holes.... So maybe he wasn't out of line with the handicap??

Good luck with your second round.

It is very possible that a guy like that could be a legit 7. I know guys who crush the ball and seem to have all the tools, but don't know how to use them. They usually wind up with a few blow up holes, mostly due to either a horrible short game and/or poor decision making.

It seems highly unlikely that someone who played D1 golf would be up to a 7 at age 30.

It really depends on how much they play, but if they play regularly you're right.

Put it this way, if they belong to a club and are playing in the club champ, then they are not a 7.

On the other hand I played a grand total of one tournament of Division 2 golf. After that I had to get a job to pay for school and didn't play until my last semester of school. It took me a month to break 100 again. So, I guess it can happen.

Club championship round 43-35-78

Started with a double on each of the 1st 2 holes. Played +2 the rest of the way. 35 on the back is only the 2nd time i have ever been below par for 9 holes. It feels awesome to have such a good back 9 in a tournament. Very happy with my play once I relaxed.

There was 2 groupings of competitors. Group 1 was all the best players from the club. Some have played on the Canadian tour, or college golf. I was in grouping 2. Which was all the rest of us. I won both gross and net for group 2 (16 players). Won $90 gift card for the pro shop!!!

The ex NCAA division 1 player shot 84. He was in grouping 1. I did not know there was separate groupings until they had the awards ceremony. I beat him both rounds. He was not taking it serious at all. He had runners on instead of golf cleats. He was even missing a few clubs from his bag. His clubs look 10 years old. He was going for it on every shot. He lost lots of balls because he was trying for miracles. He was just having fun.

Club champ shot 69. He played on the Canadian tour for several years.
