First round of club championship today. Super easy course setup, tees up, tons of front pins. Shot a very shaky 39-39-78. 2 birdies, 1 double. 7/13 fairways, 11/18 greens, 35 putts (including what I think is my first 4 putt of the season). Had to grind over every single putt, even the 3 inch birdie tap ins, no feel at all.
Tournaments are tough for the yips. Nice job breaking 80.

1: 437/4: laced Drive down middle. 6 iron all over it almost went in. 15 footer left one foot short. par.
2: 451/4: laced drive very long down middle. fat duck hook 3 iron short left. pitch too long to 20 feet. 2 putt 4.
3: 203/3: hit 3 iron solid, left it out right. Nice chip to 3.5 feet downhill. Lipped out on the pro side. booo 4.
4: 422/4: drive missed right, but long. Found clearing in trees, 6 iron hit solid but left out right into bunker. Bunker shot a bit short. Made 14 footer for par.
5: 431/4: Drive down middle to 183. Weird shot into wind/uphill hit a "knockdown" 5 wood all over the pin. A little to far into fringe about 20 feet, left putt 3 feet short. 180 degree lipout, stupid horrible bogey.
6: 672/5: Killed driver, nice 3 wood to 150. 8 iron to 14 feet, putt ran out of steam. par.
7: 150/3: playing 160 w/pin. Solid 6 iron to left fringe, 25 feet. Putt left just short, tap in par.
8: 371/4: Killed drive. Pwedge from 106 into wind. Nice solid shot, didn't go for sucker pin. Rewarded with a 3 putt from 20 feet, another 180 lipout. bogey.
9: 389/4: crap drive off to right. Very solid 7 iron up hill to back pin, pin high. 2 putt tap in par. +4 39. 5/7 fairways, 4/9 greens.

10: 451/4: killed drive straight. 3 iron thought it hooked into bunker. Find it in back bunker, catch too much ball, 2 putt from 20 feet. bogey 5.
11: 552/5: killed drive, resisted going for it, laid up to 60 yards down the left. great wedge to 8 feet, putt never broke tap in 5.
12: 175/3: 4 iron very solid down right, kicked off hill to 6 feet. Putt never broke, tap in 3.
13: 453/4: Ground was wet, so drive ended up straight, but too short no angle to make it around 90 degree dogleg. Wedge to 100. Wedge over hole to 25 feet straight downhill. Made nice 7 footer for bogey.
14: 398/4: Worst drive of the day. Straight, but mi**** badly. 7 iron from 155 didn't make it to back left pin, impossible putt. Left myself manageable 5 footer for par. made it.
15: 238/3: Worst shot off day almost OB in Gorse lie. Hacked it out too far over green. Bladed chip over green again, stubbed next chip, made 12 footer for double. +8 now, need all pars for 79.
16: 315/4: I always hit driver off this hole b/c fairways wider at 250 than it is at 200 and I hate hitting 5 wood/3 wood off tee anyway. I usually hit a "knockdown" half dirver to 60 yards. I try that. Can't find my ball for a while even though I hit it dead straight. Somehow it's pin high on the fringe. Leave the eagle putt 1 foot short, tap in birdie.
17: 542/5: Drive down middle, perfect layup 80 yards, perfect wedge to 8 feet, barely missed putt, par.
18: 343/4: Drive crushed dead straight. Gap wedge from 107 to 10 feet, barely missed putt, par.

12/14 fairway 10/18 greens. 78. Last 2.5 rounds = 76-36-78 (from champ tees 74.7/143). This is a course it took me 8 months of playing multiple times a week (from the up tees mostly) to break 80.

40-45-85. No birdies, no doubles, 1 quad. 6/13 fairways, 5/18 greens, 35 putts.

It wasn't good but it was good enough. Four putted the 4th hole, then made 5 straight pars. Back nine was a bad bounce filled bogeyfest.

51 on the front 9 at my local club. Not very good. Really gotta fix this slice on my long clubs as it leaves me some terrible looks on most holes. I'm aprehensive to use the driver a lot of the times now, and it definitely hinders my confidence.

Don't. I spray a driver all over the place. I hit a 3 wood much straighter. I don't carry a driver anymore.

I think I am going to try to finish out the season with the driver, but if all the work I'm putting in with it on the range doesn't pay off, I'm definitely going to scrap it.

The other issue is that I don't have a 1 wood currently, and my 3 wood is my next longest club. I can always go buy one, of course.

Re: What'd You Shoot Today? (Golf BBV Thread)

Had one of those days and rounds that leaves you remembering why you love and play this game. It wasn't because I went career low or anything, but because of how much I battled my friend down the stretch. We played a course we hadnt played in like 5 years, both shot 80, but matched eachother with clutch shots the last 3 holes. Then we go to #1 to start our sudden death playoff...

We proceed to go back in forth hitting great shots and must make putts until we are forced to call it a draw due to darkness after 5 extra playoff holes. It doesn't matter if it wasn't a usga event or big tournament etc...we were battling and during those shots and that time we both felt the heat and continued to come up big when we had to. It was like we flipped a switch and everything changed. We typically start out helping eachother trying to play well and aren't in hu compete mode until the latter part of the round if we see we are close. We both finished +8 on the round, but were -1 the last 3 holes of regulation, and -3 each throughout the 5 playoff holes and neither of us missed a fairway during that time. It was so sick...found myself laughing a few times by like the 2nd and 3rd playoff hole..just enjoying the moment and then trying to tap back into my zone for my shot.

If you love the competition side of golf, I def hope you have a golf buddy to play with that is on a similar skill level as you. Regardless of your current handicap, it's the best and will make for some great times and lifetime memories.

CLIFFS : GET THEM COMPETITIVE JUICES FLOWING!!! ..... I LOVE PLAY GOLF!

Re: What'd You Shoot Today? (Golf BBV Thread)

Shot 79 (+8) from the back tees on this course. CR/slope is 74.7/135 from the 7146 yards (6534 metres) back tees. With a bit of bad luck you could definitely lose a ball in the rough but mostly you could find your ball and hack it out. It was windy but not too bad. 5/13 fairways, 7/18 greens and 28 putts.

1. Par 5 586y/536m
Hit decent but slightly pushed drive into light rough, 21° to 116y/106m uphill into wind, hit PW to 3 feet and knock that in for birdie. Nice start

2. Par 3 189y/173m
Downhill but into the wind to a back pin I decide to hit 5i. Quit on it hand hit a big push to the fw short right. Horrible chip to 25 feet, almost make it for par but tap in for bogey.

3. Par 4 430y/393m
Slightly push driver to light rough but my lie is perfect. 164y/150m to the pin uphill with bunkers in front so I go with 6i to make sure to clear the bunkers, awful pushed shot and too much club so I end up in the deep stuff behind the green. Hit a good chip, but it's downhill so it ends up rolling 20 feet by. Drain straight uphill put for par.

4. Par 4 444y/406m
Hit really good drive downwind that just clears a fw bunker and leaves me 122y/112m in. Pitch PW to 8 feet and wimp out on the downhill right to left birdie putt, tap in par.

5. Par 4 418y/382m
Cut my drive a bit into the wind leaving 175y/160m severely uphill and into the wind. I hit a great 4i that ends up over the green. Great chip to 5 inches and tap in par.

6. Par 4 417y/381m
Pull hook drive into left rough 173y/158m. Hack out 7i just short of greenside bunker. Hit a poor chip leaving 15 feet uphill putt. Hit it way too hard but luckily it's dead center and drops for par.

7. Par 4 436y/399m
Left rough is impossible so I bail out and hit a push fade to light rough on the right leaving 175y/160m to the pin. Slightly uphill and since I am not sure about how good contact I can get I hit 6i. Obviously I nail it and it goes 20 yards past the green into a fluffy lie. Awful chip onto the fringe, awful putt to 10 feet, bad putt, tap in for double

8. Par 5 622y/569m
Really hate this hole and had decided to hit a 3w but change my mind to hit driver. Small push to right rough. Next shot is completely blind and I hit a great 6i that I though was absolutely perfect but it ends up in light rough with about 213y/195m in from a hook lie. I quit on my 21° hybrid and push it into a bunker 47y/43m out. I try to hit a regular pitch shot but skull it over the green into impossible lie. Hit a great chip to 12 feet and two-putt for my second straight double

9. Par 3 199y/182m
Hit decent but slightly pulled 5i pin high to semi rough just left of the green. Great chip to 5 inches, tap in par.

10. Par 4 423y/387m
Decent drive through the fairway into semi rough leaving me 106y/97m to the pin. Pitch GW but pull it to left semi rough. Ok chip that rolls 5 feet by and hole that for par.

11. Par 3 159y/145m
Hit my 8i a bit fat into awful lie in the rough with me standing in a bunker with the ball far above my feet. Hit a good chip that runs 15 feet by. Standard two putt for bogey.

12. Par 5 536y/490m
Forced carry over water and the further you hit it to the left the less you have to carry. Hit decent but slightly pushed drive to the middle of the fairway, pretty bad 21° hybrid that stalls in the wind leaving me 197y/98m to the pin with water on the right. Pitch a GW pin high but 15 feet to the left of the pin. Misread putt completely and two putt for par.

13. Par 4 215y/197m
Severely uphill to a back pin. Don't think that I can get there with my 21° hybrid but 3W is definitely too much. I go with the hybrid and hit a great shot. Soft draw that just clears the greenside bunker and rolls up 20 feet short of the pin. Hit a great putt that we thought was in but it just rolls by, tap in par.

14. Par 4 397y/363m
Massive mental error here as I should have just hit 3W or hybrid to take the trouble out of play. Being the idiot I am I stupidly go with driver and push fade it into the woods. Try to hack it out and barely get it out, try to hit a big slice onto the green but it starts right and hits the branches leaving me 112y/102m downhill to the pin. I pitch a GW onto the fringe and two putt for my 3rd double of the day.

15. Par 4 491y/449m
Hit a decent drive into the wind leaving me 219y/200m to the pin slightly into the wind and slightly downhill. I chunk my 21° hybrid leaving me with 47y/43m pitch. I hit a good shot but it bites more than expected leaving me with a 12 feet par putt which I miss and tap in for bogey.

16. Par 4 358y/327m
Solid drive leaving me 74y/68m from the pin. Pitch LW to 15 feet and my birdie putt just slides past the hole, tap in par.

17. Par 3 174y/159m
Decent 8i straight at the pin downwind rolls out to 20 feet left to right uphill putt. Almost hole it but it just slides by, tap in par.

18. Par 5 652y/596m
Poor drive that I push fade to right semi-rough, poor 3W that I push fade leaving me 175y/160m to the pin downwind slightly uphill. I hit a soft 6i, get great contact and ends up 15 feet past the pin with a downhill birdie put. Wimp out and leave it 3 feet short and hole that one for par.

Pretty happy with my play but would have liked to eliminate the stupid doubles.

Re: What'd You Shoot Today? (Golf BBV Thread)

I played yesterday and shot 81 with a double on the last. Putting was horrendous, but the greens were aerated and I basically failed at plinko. 20 straight rounds under 84, handicap down to 3.3 I'm kind of pissed because I think I'm now slotted in the championship flight for my City tournament. My mindset is "break 80", and the winner is usually -7 or 8.

I've played this deal 3 times:

2008: Championship flight as a 3.2 handicap: 80-82-83. (Playing partners day 1 shot 65, 71, 72).
2009: 1st flight: As a 5.4 handicap: 84-79-86
2010: 2nd flight: As a 7 handicap: 79-81-79 (I won like $160 in gift cards because I T-2 since the last day was very windy and my 79 beat nearly everyone in my flight.)

Re: What'd You Shoot Today? (Golf BBV Thread)

After playing the front nine in the morning yesterday (and posting here), I went back out with a buddy and played the back nine before our hockey game.

I don't know what the hell happened, but I tried out a new grip and hit my driver so much better it wasn't even funny. I took a 9 on the firs thole (a 350ish par 4) because I got in a fight with a tree and tried to make some hero shots, and I took a triple on a par 5 when I put my third shot just over the green. Unfortunately it took me 3 chips to finally get it on the green and I two-putted for the triple.

Outside of those two holes, I played great. A birdie after I stuck a PW about a foot below the pin from 110 yards out, and some nice par saves coupled with a few bogeys and I was very happy with myself. Steadily improving my game. Shot a 49, but if I can bogey the two holes I ****ed up on, it would eliminate 6 shots and would have easily been my best round of the year.

Re: What'd You Shoot Today? (Golf BBV Thread)

-2, it felt like it was the worst I could've had hitting 15 greens. The 3 I missed were only just off the green; holable putts.

It was pretty dissapointing considering I had -6 yesterday in a practice round through 15 holes, and -4 today after the comp was finished thru 9 (was -4 through 4, pared the rest ).

Changed something with my putting yesterday, was holing everything, if I missed it it was pretty much just cause I read it wrong, feels great putting with this sort of confidence, (I had a round the other day where I had 14 birdie putts under/around 15ft and didn't make ONE!) hopefully they keep going in for a while, feel some real low scores coming

Re: What'd You Shoot Today? (Golf BBV Thread)

46 on 9, par 35

played ok except for a blowup 8 on a par 3, hit some good pitch and chip shots and putted quite well

i suck out of the sand though. part of the problem is the bunkers on this course aren't in great shape and you get some weird lies, but i let that get into my head and have a really negative attitude, gotta stop with that
