The new putter grip is on fire. I had four 3-putts in six holes today plus one more for good measure 3 holes later. $300 invested into a new putter and it's going into the trash as soon as I can get to the city to buy a new one.

34" Scotty X5 with SuperStroke Flatso 2.0 XL for sale, excellent condition.

http://www.salish-cliffs.com/

had some fun today, 79. excellent lay-out, greens best we've played so far. lots of interesting looks from the tees and fairways. was warned by the starter that the course is difficult, so I started out off the whites, 70.5/128, but after 9 fairly easy tee shots, moved back to the reds, 72.6/133. recommend.

booked a room at little creek casino tonight and played poker after the round. lost a little $$, but won four free rounds at Salish Cliffs, so we tee off again at 8:20.

have nine at Port Ludlow in the afternoon, Whitehorse Saturday, another round at Port Ludlow Sunday, then finish in Port Angeles Monday morning.

Now that's how you finish a round to salvage a score. Prepping for a Ryder Cup type event tomorrow so it's 1/2 shamble and 1/2 scramble (2 man teams). I hit driver more than I normally would on this course. Helped me get some shorter approaches which obviously didn't help til late.

Birdie putts were 15 feet, 3 feet and 5 feet.

44 + 48 = 92

11, 3 putts.... 47 putts in total!!! I 3 putted 8 holes in a row... WTF happened to my putter? That was the end of the best 2 weeks of golf I have ever played.

For me. When my plane is correct for my driver and woods. I hit them well.

When my plane is correct for my irons I hit them solid.

Usually one plane is good and the other is not quite correct. When I finally adjust I lose the other. Realizing this has helped me be more consistent with both. On the driving range I often play all the tee box and iron shots from the front 9. I hit each shot until I am happy with it then move to he next shot. I am trying to jump around the clubs instead of moving through them smoothly starting with PW.

good idea

Today, I shot 43-42-85 with a triple on the last hole after an unlucky bounce went OB.

Had one birdie, should've had three more, but missed putts inside of 10 feet and one of them was 5 feet.

A double on a par 5, too....

The good news is that my driver was better today.

another excellent time at Salish Cliffs, scrambled to a 78. Very challenging course. Constantly demanding you problem solve with complex looks, angles, lies. Especially appreciate how true the greens run. Hit only a handful of greens but got up and down from everywhere. Sank lots of longish par putts simply because the greens were so solid.

We had an 8:20, but arrived early and the starter sent us off before two 4's. Done in under 3 hrs. Gave us time to drive up to Port Ludlow, get in another 18, then dinner at the resort, celebrating my wife's 50th.

Port Ludlow is old-school west coast. Helpless greens, blind downhill tee shots, doglegs, severe uphills, big trees. http://portludlowresort.com/golf/. 77 off the blues. Lots of birdie looks but these greens were quite rough. Balls deflected off-line regularly.

White Horse tomorrow.

Brief poker story; Playing at Little Creek, my wife is on the button, folded around to her. She calls, lol. I raise in the SB with AQo. BB folds. K55 flop. I lead, she calls. T on the turn, I bet again, she calls. She giggles. I check the river, she bets, I open fold, and she shows flopped quads. Hehe. Worth $133 bonus. Happy Birthday

Since it’s match play why not hole by hole this thing.

Ryder Cup match against a nearby club. Format was front 9 shamble and back 9 scramble. One point awarded for each 9 hole match. We played the white tees which are only about 6100 yards or so.

Our opponents would both get shots on the 3rd, one of em gets a shot on 9 and the team gets a shot on 11.

18th (scramble) - We started on the 18th hole. Near 90 degree dogleg right. Partner hits one in the fairway at the corner of the dogleg. I am free to bomb over the trees and cut the dogleg, which i do and we have 225y to the green. Opponents hit OK off the tee and then lay-up to 150y out. Partner hits to 80y out for a lay-up and I can go for it. I hit the front of the green, on in 2. Opponents both hit the tree on their 3rd but one is next to the green. They chip up and have a gimme par. I leave the eagle putt a foot on the high side and birdie is conceded. 1up

1st (shamble) - 490y par 5 - Hole is halved with pars. I had 215y to the green on my drive but push it left. Opponent hits green in 3 and makes par. All Square

2nd - 270y par 4 - Tees way up making it driveable. Partner hooks it left near OB. I take 4 iron to hit it in fairway and pull it badly OB. Luckily partner is in play and we have a 60y shot to the green. One opponent ball on in regulation but not close. Both me and my partner hit the green, him to 30 feet, me to 15. Partner drains the birdie and we go 1 up.

3rd - 520y par 5 - Opponents both get a shot. I drive it good and we have 248y to the green (it’s all carry though). Opponents hit fairway and lay up. My layup catches a fairway bunker 125y out, partner plugs his layup in same bunker. My 3rd goes in water, partner blasts out, then dumps it in water. Pick it up, we lose. All Square

4th - 380y par 4 - Nothing too exciting except me burning the edge for birdie but we halve the hole with pars.

5th - 260y par 4 - Another driveable hole. I hit my tee shot good but pull it (still in fairway). Opponents knock it to 10 feet on their approach, I knock it to 6 feet. We both make and hole is halved with birdie. All Square

6th - 103y par 3 - Opponent hits it to 30 feet, I hit it to 20 feet below the hole. Nobody makes and hole is halved with par. All Square

7th - 350y par 4 - Opponents both miss the green with their approaches, we both hit the green. Opponents don’t get up and down and we win with a par - 1 up.

8th - 171y par 3 - We are short of the green but chip up and make par, opponents 2-putt par. Hole is halved - 1 up.

9th - 345y par 4 - Opponents in middle of fairway, partner hits it OB so I hit 4 iron to the fairway. Lightning hits and we have an hour delay. After delay I hit it to 20 feet above the hole. 1 opponent hits green, other who gets a shot leaves it short. Guy who gets a shot chips it to 3 feet. I burn the edge on my birdie putt. Opponent makes 3 footer for the par (net birdie) and the win - Match is halved.

10th (back to scramble) - 161y par 3 - Opponents hit the green, we both dump it in the water, we lose. All square.

11th - 350y par 4 - Opponents get a shot and both teams hit the green and make par, their good for net birdie. 1 down

12th - 340y par 4 - Both teams hit green in reg and par, hole is halved - 1 down

13th - 500y par 5 - Opponents hit fairway and I cut the dogleg. Opponents layup good, partner lays up good, I hit a hybrid about 40 yards. Opponents knock it to 8 feet, partner hits it to 6 feet. We halve with birdies - 1 down.

14th - 350y par 4 - We both are on in regulation, I burn edge for birdie but we halve with pars - 1 down

15th - 370 y par 4 - Opponents hit fairway, partner sprays it in trees, i hit hybrid fat and we have 248y to the green. I hit 3 wood about 20y short and 20y left. Opponents hit green. Both me and partner hit good pitches to about 8 feet. Opponents 2 putt par and I make to putt to halve. 1 down

16th - 162y par 3 - 3 of 4 balls on the green, they have a 25 footer for birdie and we have 18 feet. All putts missed and we halve the hole - 1 down.

17th - Both on in regulation and we have about 30 feet for birdie. Partner hit a great putt that dies left and we concede - 2 down

Overall was a fun time. Giving shots in a shamble or scramble is just tough. Opponents won all 3 of the holes they received shots, 2 of them which would have been a halve. That’s the difference between is taking 1 ½ points compared to our actual ½ point. Partner cap was a 7, me and 8, and opponents were 9 and 11.

Our course was up 10 ½ to 3 ½ with 14 more points to be had when I left, guessing we won easily.

I'm a 24 handicap and really working on my game for the first time ever. I have been sold off the tees all year so I started working on my short game. A few weeks ago while hitting in a simulator some pro tells me to move my drives further forward in my stance so I listened. Immediately I am getting an extra 7 or 8 extra miles per hour of clubhead speed. It worked so well for my first few rounds and then it feel apart for me on the range the other day. I chalked it up to a bad day but then today happened.....

Played Edgewater in Lancaster SC. It's a tough, but fair course. First tee hard yank left into the woods, second drive the same thing. It went on all day, even after going back to my old ball placement (just inside left foot) It was horrible. I haven't hit so bad off the tees in years. Right now I'm feeling so discouraged and lost with my swing. I'll probably hit the range tomorrow to see if I can fix it but man this game can be so humbling.

The only bright side was that the work I've been putting in on my short game seems to be paying off. I was hitting everything crisp, putting well, great feel on my pitches. Bah.... Can't believe my long game is such crap all of a sudden.

57-52 109.
7 penalty strokes

38-41-79. 3 birdies, 1 double bogey. 8/18 fairways, 9/18 greens, 35 putts.

Too many three putts. Frustrating. Also missed several very makeable birdie and par putts.

41 + 44 =85

A year ago this would have been a solid round. This summer this is below average with poor ball striking. 2 penalties, couple of 3 putts, 4 doubles. 34 putts in total.

Family from the midwest came for a day and a couple of them wanted a sample of Florida golf. Took them to a 6100y par 71 and quickly saw that we needed to play forward given the difficulty they were having. Moved up to the 5400y tees after the first 2 holes.

41-43-84 and actually pretty peeved about it. 5 1putts (4 for par, 1 birdie), 4 3putts (3 of which were on GIRs), 2 birdies, 2 doubles & a triple. Finished the back 9 +7 after being even thru 5 holes, and finished the front 9 with 3 GIR (but two 3-putts). Still a good score, but should have busted thru 40 on one of the 9s given how short the course was playing.

White Horse today; http://www.whitehorsegolf.com/

Front nine is great golf. Interesting holes, lots of good looks, lots of room, very challenging greens. However, greens are crusty and slow. That was frustrating. 39 on the front.

Back nine starts with a 380 yd dogleg left. Hit perfect drive left, bounced down left side of fairway, over the crest of a hill, and out of sight. Got a sick feeling walking toward the 150 marker. OB stakes, blind to the tee, cuts the fairway, about 270 out. Pet peeve, blind hazards that gobble balls hit long and straight on the line suggested by the tee box.

Hole 11 and 12 are also short, quirky, par 4's. As is 15. The back nine needs a bulldozer and some dynamite. The level of fail here compares with The Rise, in Vernon, B.C. Excellent front nine, awful back. Pass on this one.

Played a tournament for alumni from my business school. Format was a modified shamble. I played really good, our team won, I won the long drive, and a I also won a closest to the pin. When you win enough stuff that people start to boo you during the awareds that means you did something right.

Headed out to the range to work on my driver after yesterday debacle and made some progress but am still struggling with it. Decided to play to test it out so I played Stonebridge in Mineral Springs NC.

48-45 93

Got my fairways hit up to 44% by was still very inconsistent. I putted like a champ though and my irons and wedges were as crisp as ever. Very encouraged about my short game. More work needed on my driver.

42-44 86 (par 71). course HC 92
7/14 fairways
4/18 greens (all the pars & birds)
8 1-putts
9 2-putts
1 3-putt
at least four putts on the right line but left short within a foot

2 birdies (115 & 185 yard par 3s) 2 pars, 11 bogies, 3 doubles

1st double: par 5, fairway 120 out in two, fan my wedge, pitch over the green (creek in front) to a downhill lie, chip runs off the green to the other side, two putt
2nd double: par 4, 150 out in the fairway, hard top, hard $h@nk, 2 putt
3rd double: par 4, fairway 140 out, hard top, nuke next shot to top tier (pin is on lower tier), 3-putt

First round with the new M1. Only hit two really bad drives, the rest of the non-fairways were in the first cut and not penal. Guy I was playing with (who I play ~20 rounds a year with) asked if I got a new driver because the sound was different and the good drives were so much better.

Other than the three holes where I was pulling up out of shots I was really happy with the irons. Best I've hit them in a round in several months. Weak short game and timid putts added the usual strokes to the card.

I've been struggling with the $h@nks since March (only on the course, never on the range), and this was the first round in a long time where I was able to hit a bad shot and turn around and hit a crisp one.
