I was playing off a G.A of 31 8 weeks ago, now it's 24.4. In those 8 weeks, today's score is the second to worst score I've had. Aside from some good chipping and putting (on the back anyway) I was really, really disappointed with the way I hit the ball today. 3/14 fairways, 1/12 with my driver. Too many duffed 3-wood and fairway iron shots.
I haven't been playing long enough to sandbag, and trust me, I want to be sub-18 on my home course before the end of next year. I'm not playing this game to scoop a few $60 in-house vouchers for beating a bunch of gumbies in C-grade.
Was a match play winner yesterday afternoon; 3&2 and I beat my boss on his course - Last time I played him in this event was my first year at our firm - he waxed me solidly. So I've gotten better at playing and competing.
Started off strong with a birdie on the first hole and a par on the second that were both winners. Was 1 up after four when he gifted me the 5th - drivable par 4 with a lake front and right. He laid up I knocked it in the water. My 3rd ended up pin high and he chunked his 2nd in the water and didn't get up and down.
We both punted hard on the 7th but my double beat his double as I stroked on the #1 handicap hole and I was 3 up. Made a long par putt on 8 to halve the hole. He chipped in for birdie on 9 after I chipped to 2 feet to secure par. 2 up through 9.
I won ten after hitting an approach to 10 feet and him blasting his approach over the green into some hay and not getting out with his first hack.
Missed the green left on the longish par-3 11th and he crammed it to 4 feet. I got up and down from outside of him and he missed his short one and I stayed 3 up. That was huge obv.
I lost twelve (blew up hard but yay match play). Halved 13 when he missed another short one and I two putted from like 60 feet for par. I won 14 getting up and down and he flubbed his chip after short siding himself. Back to 3 up.
15 is another driveable par-4; I hit 3w over the lake and it settled down 50 yards short of the green. He blasts driver onto the green - about 30 feet for eagle. I hit my pitch of the day to 3 feet and he blew his eagle putt past; I momentarily thought I may actually win the hole but he made his 10 footer coming back for birdie. I made mine and had him 3 down with 3 to play. We halved 16 with pars and that was that.
Finished the round and I made two more pars and played 8-holes on the back -1. 39 with a quad. So 43-39 82; another decent round that would be better without the quad... 7/14 Fwy and 8 GIR. 29 putts
So I putted well and am still terrible off the tee. But glad to make it through. It's a 16-man double elimination match play and I'm 2-0 and still alive on the winners side.
Skies opened up on me on the 5th hole (was even par after 4). I played through it til the 6th when it was so hard I had to stop. Waited 10 minutes, clear and sunny. Then get to 8 tee and it opens up even harder (standing water on green, bunker, etc). Battled through 9 and quit.
At least I was able to used my rain jacket and gloves. Very odd for me swinging with a glove on my bottom hand. Grip is great with them but it just feel that my bottom hand as too much control of my swing that way.
Oh yeah, was sunny when I left too. Florida weather.
This is a charity golf league that does once a month stroke play events and te season long match play for those interested. So it's cool to get to go to different courses for the stroke play events and sometimes for match play.
I hit it pretty solid tee to green, but only sank putts for par or bogey. I definitely felt that I should have shot about 82, but I made a bunch of 10-15 foot par putts.
7am tee time, killed it on the front (no scores worse than 4!), then took my jacket off and forgot how to hit the ball... golf is so ****ing tilting sometimes.
Could have gone lower on the front too. I hit the pin off the tee on the 2nd hole and it bounced way the **** back off the green into the rough and almost into a bunker and ended up with my only bogey on what should have been a tap in bird.
Didn't have my swing and I knew it before I teed off. Was way too steep with my swing. Couldn't fix it on the course because the first time I tried resulted in a shank.
Pepsi Tour was at Boulder Creek today outside of Vegas...my buddy and me decided to play after them from the same tees - the tips! And the greens were a bit faster than normal.
Started out great...was 1 over after 8...but then the wheels came off.
39-44-83
I guess it ain't bad from the tips, but man I couldn't hit a shot on the back 9.
My putting has been great the last two rounds...that's something, I guess.
Hit the ball really solid through the 14th hole, then lost it. Also putted pretty well. Chipping continues to be woeful and needs to be totally revamped.

Had my own meltdown on Saturday. 36 (+1) with 3 birdies on the front. Made two 10 footers on #3 and #4, and made a bomb on #7. Doubled 9 after putting tee shot into a greenside bunker against the back lip with no chance of escape.
Started back bogey-par, then the wheels came off. Started pulling then duck-hooking everything. Was in a bunker off the tee on 12, 13, 14, 15, 16, and 18. Back 9 was a 48.
For as well as I struck the ball on the front, it was like I never hit a shot in my life on the back. Dafuq is right!!!
