Re: What'd You Shoot Today? (Golf BBV Thread)

Back when I actually played, I could get to the low 80s reasonably well. It's just nice to see most of the game come back after a long break.

41 (par 35). 0 birdies, 2 doubles. 5/6 fairways, 1/9 greens, 13 putts.

Played nine with a 5 iron, 42 degree niblick and putter. Didnt have my bag so I had to improvise.

Re: What'd You Shoot Today? (Golf BBV Thread)

44-49-95

34 putts
5/14 FIR
2/18 GIR
1 sand stroke
1 penalty

It was brutally hot out there today. I thought I'd play from 7:30a to 11 but it was still brutal and in the early morning everything was just soaked, my gloves, my right hand, even the grips had morning dew on them. Carried my bag and really struggled to finish the last 4 holes but anyway my score wasn't suffering too much so I figured I would finish.

Drove the ball better than I have in a long, long time. Distance isn't amazing but my accuracy and consistency are so much better. 5/14 FIR but really every drive was playable, if not just off the fairway. Oh yeah I just remembered I did hit one big slice into a lake on a par 5 so that was bad, that's where my penalty came from.

Lagged pretty good but still not really sinking anything outside like 4 feet.

Approach shots were not great today. I was pulling everything left which of course meant it lands on the left side of a berm and rolls down leaving a really tough (for me) pitch. That is the worst part of my game is shots around the green so I kept killing myself by missing greens. For me especially hitting anywhere on the green is so god damn important for keeping my score from ballooning out of control it cannot be overstated. I'm trying - just had a bad day. Don't think it was anything to worry about. A few of them I think were directly related to hitting out of first cut morning dew grass which I'm just not used to. Heel just seemed to go nowhere and toe would turn over causing short, low, and left. So really it was a new shot for me as I never play in the AM. Towards the end of the day the dew burned off but I think I was just weak and not committing to hitting through the ball.

On two holes I narrowly missed putts (one for bird, one for par) just next to the hole that both ran too far past and I missed the comebacker in each case. A couple inches to the side and that's 4 strokes off my score right there.. ugg. My fault for rolling past though. They were bombs though.

2 pars
10 bogeys
5 doubles
1 triple

Pretty consistent mediocrity for me. Usually I have a couple more triples or even a quad somewhere. The triple was on a 170 yard par 3 that I ****ing cannot stand. It's an idiotic hole. Impossible to hit the green and if you don't hit the green every shot you're left with is not easy. It's my least favorite hole I've ever played by far.

I played it horribly though, hit a bad 6i blocked right and short. Left with maybe a 30 yard downhill lie shot to an elevated green with no backstop. Took my time and determined the best line to hit, that even if I skulled it or hit it short, would leave me with a reasonable shot back. Then I hit it and thinned it and the ball lands about a foot on the elevated, flat green and rolls way off, down the hill. Now I legit only have a flop shot to attempt which I rarely do. Hit a good one but too weak and it settles on top of the berm in the grass just short of green. A yard longer and it rolls downhill toward the hole somewhere. Then I try to putt through the tall wet grass and the ball pops out and goes nowhere, but settles on the green 8 feet short. Miss putt. I normally don't play this hole that badly but this was bad.

Anyway overall I'm excited and my HC should be coming down a lot soon. Last 5 rounds all sub-100. 5 of my 10 lowest HC differentials have come in my most recent 7 rounds.

Nice post phb I like reading detailed rounds like that. I'm going to make more of an effort to do the same every time I play. I'll be playing in Maui this week so I'll have a beautiful scenery-laden 140 to report ha

Re: What'd You Shoot Today? (Golf BBV Thread)

It's good to type everything out as it makes you think back about where you went wrong, where you went right, etc. Honestly when I finished I was kind of pissed off and expected my round to be 98 or 99. Added it up and 95 so I was a bit happier. Then when I got home and tallied up all the fairways and thought about my tee shots I started thinking about how it really wasn't that bad of a round. Sometimes when you're out there it's hard to see the positives but if you do the write-up you will generally feel better about your performance.

Obligatory "Hey I've been to Hawai'i, too" tidbit: I played at Turtle Bay on the main island but not Maui. I don't know if you've been there before or if you require sunscreen but if you do take sunscreen that is about twice as strong as you might wear in NYC. Sun's rays over there are vicious. My wife doesn't wear it b/c she actually tans and she wore capris and just rode in the cart and she got burned so damn bad and had capri pants tan lines for months afterwards. lol.

42 (par 37). No birdies, 2 double bogeys. 4/7 fairways, 4/9 greens, 17 putts.

Not a great ball striking day, but the two three putts were killer.

Re: What'd You Shoot Today? (Golf BBV Thread)

Played in my Men's club weakly 9 Hole round today at Rum River Hills in MN. The game was 3-Ball Foursome (Count 3 of 4 scores). Although the rest of my team members didn't play that well, I managed to shoot my best 9 Hole score ever on the front 9 (par 35): 31. Started on #3 (Shotgun) with a birdie. Birdied 7 and 8 and reached the par 5 2nd in 2 and two putted for birdied. My scorecard had 5 3's and 4 4's on it.

As we were driving back into the clubhouse, I realized I had a slight shot at breaking the course record of 62, although it was already 8:00 and I would have to play very quick. So I grabbed my friend who was practicing a little putting and we drove over to the 10th tee. I got up-and-down for par on 10, made a 12 foot birdie putt on 11 and made my first and only mistake of rushing too fast and I ended up hitting my tee ball on the par 5 12th OB and it was over after that when I made a double bogie and ended up driving back in to the club house. I feel I should have just played it out to see how low I could go since my lowest round ever is 68. Oh well, hopefully another opportunity comes around sooner rather than later.

I think that was a bizarro way of saying his handicap will be lower right before he uses it for something important.

Re: What'd You Shoot Today? (Golf BBV Thread)

If anyone in the NE ohio area is considering playing Emerald Woods in Columbia Station, don't! The course was in terrible shape. Hitting off the fairway was like playing in someone's backyard. Most (if not all) of the greens had sprinkler heads in the middle of them. The lack of cart paths or signs keeps you guessing about where the next hole might be. One or more of the tee boxes had turf instead of grass.

Ugh. That was Monday's nine holes (54).

Today was more fun. Meadowood in Westlake was well kept and I had a good time. Greens were in great shape, especially for a cheap course. Shot 33-36-69. Yeah it was par 57, but so what??

Re: What'd You Shoot Today? (Golf BBV Thread)

Yeah your right 17 I'm off btw...but i'd rather win the major comp off a better handicap. I mean shooting what I did today doesn't really happen that often especially with my lol swing.

Re: What'd You Shoot Today? (Golf BBV Thread)

76 on par 71 6400. Solid round overall after performing maxes on squat and deadlift at the gym before. Walking the 18 killed me afterwards, feet and achilies are sore.

Course was considerably dry after 4 days of rain from a tropical storm. Greens were aerated recently, plenty of sand on them. I felt I struck the ball pure on every shot, due need to work on fine tuning accuracy off the tee and dailing in yardages a little better especially for a course designed by Donald Ross with small greens, protected well, and run off areas. Putt solidly and really stripped long irons and fairway woods today. Example on hole 8 is a 520 yrd par 5 into the wind with a canal that is 260 to carry. Hit 3 iron 6 iron 3 iron to 20 feet, tee shot rolled down the bank on the canal leaving a downhill second shot that I decided to chase a 6 iron down the fairway to 200 yards. Really love the course, can score well if you hit the fairway, but miss you are really penalized with numerous trees and crab grass rough which can be brutal and catches the club every time. Only complain is if you miss the greens the lies can be bare to 2-3 inches of thick rough where the ball will sit down due to being a public course and not prime condition.

42 (par 35). Super quick late evening nine. Hit some good shots, mostly drivers. Irons were a little clunky.
