Re: What'd You Shoot Today? (Golf BBV Thread)

44+45=89 for 36 Stableford points

Around west mid a tougher course then Brent Valley. Not enough to win I lost by one point. A very acrimonious round because two of the guys fought and bickered over a lot of silly little things, whether we should let the group behind through, whether you got relief for drainage ditches in the rough. I though I did well to not let it affect me. I'm happy to brake 90 here for only the second time.

1 Birdie, 4 Pars, 7 Bogeys, 4 Doubles, 2 Worse
4/12 FIR, 1 GIR, 35 Putts

Re: What'd You Shoot Today? (Golf BBV Thread)

39/36 = 75

3 Birdies (1 chip in from 40 yards after making a mess of the hole)
10 Fairways
10 Girs
32 Putts

I have started to come out of a slump of playing the worst golf of my life; today's round was a huge boost to a very fragile confidence.

Re: What'd You Shoot Today? (Golf BBV Thread)

Second day of club event today. Played like total ass and could not get anything going. Did manage to scrape it around for a while on the back, making 4 pars and 2 bogeys (missed 2 footer, missed 4 footer), but then hit a 10 yard bunker shot 110 yards and made a quad.

Did that on the first hole, too. Caught a bunker shot pure and launched it a good hundred yards into the middle of the driving range. Those were the only two iron shots I flushed all day.

Played 9 this evening while dvring the Open. haven't played in about 10 days due to a family vacation. Rusty. Did manage to par 2 holes and hit a few fairways. But still struggling with my iron distances. 46, which just isn't where I want to be. Gah.

Re: What'd You Shoot Today? (Golf BBV Thread)

Bogeyed 7 of first 8 holes and ended up shooting 78.

Interesting fact: If I shoot an 82 every time out, I'm a 5.8 handicap. A 78 is a 2.6.

48-47 - 95

Second best round if my life, easily could have been mid 80s.. 3 penalty strokes for awful tee shots and 4 3 putts along with 2-3 putts inches short

I don't think I've ever struck the ball as well as I did this round , when I shot a 90 my putting was on fire but this was just consistently off the tee along with a solid short game..

I only had 1 god awful swing and I was trying to muscle up an 8 iron up and around a tree as my 7 iron needs to be reshafted due to a club throwing incident

Buddy I was playing with I play with a lot and he is a 10 cap right now though been better before and he said its best he has seen me play and referenced how quiet my hands were all day

Re: What'd You Shoot Today? (Golf BBV Thread)

Yesterday I shot a score too high to mention. But it was at the Old Course. And I sank a 20-footer on #18 and got some applause from some of the onlooking crowd.

Also played all of the other St. Andrews Links courses. Weather was terrible Friday and Saturday, but pretty good Sunday and Monday. Only scores even remotely worth mentioning were a 51 on the front nine of Eden (but I had to stop because I could barely feel my right hand), a 105 on the Castle (absolutely stunning, incredible course), and 41-40 on two trips around the par-30 Balgove.

I forgot you were going over there. Was wondering why you hadn't posted a score since the kids got out. Now I remember your thread about taking clubs over to Scotland... durr.

That's awesome on #18, you'll remember that forever. Are you gonna load these into oob?

Re: What'd You Shoot Today? (Golf BBV Thread)

Probably going to wait until I get home in July. I'm pretty sure I saved all the scorecards, it's just too much of a chore to load them in on an iPod. (I guess I could use the oobgolf app, but even then I think I'll leave it until later.)

Re: What'd You Shoot Today? (Golf BBV Thread)

Ok I'm not sure if I'm allowed to make a new thread about golf prop bets but I'm interested in doing a wager with some friends.

I've been golfing on a real course a total of one time for part of a bachelor party thing in Florida. I finished 6 holes before calling it quits and going to the club house. I've been to the driving range maybe 5 times - probably hit less than 200 balls total.

What is the over/under on strokes for someone like me at a par 3 course (I guess there's 3 or 4 par 4s) for 9 holes?

Man I never noticed a Golf forum... <slaps forehead> shot a ok round yesterday. Pars 72 from the tips, 39/front 35 back. Hit all but 3 greens in reg, all but 2 fairways and putted well with 3 birdies throughout the round.

Well how well did you do? I'm assuming badly but you never actually said what you shot. If you are "really bad", and the par of that course is 30 you'll probably shoot about 60 or worse. Depends on if those par 4s have out of bounds hazards or if there is a lot of water on the course and how good of a putter you are matters a lot but I think you'd be good to triple bogey every hole. 65 might even be a good number.

Par 3s are not easy at all to par. If you never play you will pretty much be lucky to pick the correct club within 1 (if you need a 7i you'd be lucky to pull out the 6i or 8i). So your distance will be really bad, especially if there is wind. You probably won't hit 1 green all day. And pitching and chipping from uneven lies next to a green is hard for beginners. Your basic hole will probably be miss the green by 20 yards. Hit a bad pitch shot or duff one and still be off the green. Or skull and be on the other side of the green. Then hit your third on the green but nowhere near the hole then lag to 10 feet then not come close to sinking the double bogey putt then make a solid putt for triple.

I would suggest going to the range and figuring out what club you hit most consistently, practice with it and hit the one off every tee regardless of distance (assuming most par 3s will be between 130-180 ... Just getting it out there consistently will probably be your biggest obstacle to start.. After that I would likely putt or chip with a 7 in most other cases so you can keep it low and under control
