Equal parts brutal and brilliant today. Best part was playing as a twosome took 2 1/2 hours to play.

Hit 5 greens on the front with one birdie (one 3-putt).

On the back I had two triples and a double. One OB shot and two in the water on a par 3 lead to the triples.

The double was a water ball on a par 5.

Was only able to get 9 in yesterday, played Bandon Dunes.
Shot a 43, with 18 putts. Hit 6/7 fairways and 5/9 greens.

Guy in my group had an ace today. Best part was that he was on my team. We almost didn't win the hole as someone who gets a shot left his birdie putt 6 inches short.

Highlight of the day (besides the ace) was hitting 11 of 14 fairways including 3 of 3 with the driver. Iron play was subpar.

speaking of aces...
i've never had one, but i've seen three by people in the group i was playing with and two others by people that i know playing in either a group ahead or behind.

how many aces have other folks seen while playing?

I have 1 and have been in a group with 1 other. I think I have seen 2 from a group ahead or behind.

Haven´t hit one, saw one from a group ahead. Elevated green so no one actually saw it drop and the group searched for it 5min beyond the green. Then the woman who hit it peeked in the cup and started dancing haa. She bought bubbly for the group of 12 we were in, husband was left paying the bill and wondering when he´ll get one (was her 2nd).

One birdie, the rest were pars and bogeys. no double bogey today, so that's good, I guess. One lost ball on a par 5 when I drove it too damn far. :-/

Missed a few birdies putts, didn't really have a bad hole, but not too many great ones, either.

I feel like I'm getting better...the chipping and pitching is better. I'm quite confident from 150 yds. in. Looking for the breakthrough that will finally get me below 80.

I have witnessed 3 now. Other two when I was in high school. One in my group and one was an old lady hitting 3 wood on a 150y hole in front of me.

Those were not even most amazing shots I have seen though. Back in the summer in high school you used to play for your home course instead of school. I made state along with our girls team. After I am done I go watch the girls play. Girl steps up and knocks one in for eagle from 100y out on a par 4. Next girl had laid up and knocks the next one in for birdie from 80y out.

Four double bogeys and just a **** ton of bogeys.

The funny thing is, I was on fire from tee to green. I don't think I've hit the ball better. I was crushing drives and sticking approach shots...so what went wrong?

I missed almost EVERY putt I attempted over 1 foot. I must've hit 15 foot putts ten feet past the hole 8 times. Missed 9 putts of three feet or less. It was insane.

And this after I practiced my putting yesterday. My first round not in the 80s this year.

Took until the 13th hole to get the ball off the tee correct. 1 double, 2 triples, rest pars and bogeys. One of the triples was on a par 3. Had to re-tee because where I would have dropped by the lateral hazard there was a gator.

You guys think u have putting problems. I play about 6 times a year due to back issue that lays me out for 24 hours after....and I HATE putting. It's the one thing I cannot do without regular play

Last round was 89. Hit every fairway with driver, ruined my chance for 100% fairways by pulling 3 iron at 16 and putting it in the jungle.

9 GIR. 6 three putts ffs. SIX. Including a flat 12 footer for birdie. 37 putts all up including draining a 15 footer to birdie the 1st and a 45 foot bomb for bogey

2 doubles, no birdies. Both doubles came from tee shots = lost ball = 3 off the tee. No 3 putts. Played very consistent for 1st round. My chipping and short pitching was way off and cost me several strokes.

Goals for the year are to keep a handy cap and break 80, both for the 1st time. Shot a best ever 81 at the end of last year.

What is the best app for tracking/keeping stats?

Monday, Covered Bridge GC just north of Louisville. 42-41-83. 1 birdie, 2 double bogeys. Pretty nice track, good variety of holes, in good condition for early April.

Tuesday, Cherry Blossom G&CC, Georgetown KY. Not sure on the score, something in the 80s. Really struggled with short putts, couldn't keep the putter face square. OK course though not real memorable. Not a lot of visual definition, nothing much in play except fairway and rough.

Wednesday, Grand Oak GC, West Hamilton, IN just outside Cincinnati. Again not sure on the score, something in the 80s. Mountain goat golf -- tons of elevation change. Very impressed by how nice the greens were considering that maintenance must be an absolute bitch. Nice par 3s.

As an added bonus I hit my first 300 yard drive in years. Not on the 11th, but on a different hole with a hundred feet of elevation change. 315, leaving a 55 yard sand wedge. Good times.

Yeah, it wasn't beautiful or anything, but it did hit 65 yesterday. Wind came up on the back nine and it started pouring less than 30 minutes afterward. Still better than anything in the 7 day forecast at home.

I didn't hit the ball badly for the most part but I just couldn't score. I didn't make any lucky putts missed a couple of short ones and when I did hit a bad shot, ten times by my reckoning I was punished nine times, throw in a couple of poor shots around the green and I came off ten shots worse then my handicap feeling id hit the ball pretty well.

2 Pars, 6 Bogeys, 6 Doubles, 4 worse.

44-47 = 91. The first four holes were pars, then 3 bogeys and then awful. 39 putts, nice. Rained only little but temp both sides of 40f, brrrr.

49-49-98 for the first round of the year. Drove the ball well but irons and wedges were bad. Figures for the first round. Putting was the opposite of fun on very shaggy and slow greens.

But was great to be out there. Carried 18 and felt great to be exhausted afterwards.

Gonna take a while to explain this game....

Mini-Masters event at the club. Was a blind draw for teams with A,B,C and D players on each team. Poor suckers had me as an A player. Format was a 4 man shamble. Everyone tees off and you all play your own ball after picking a tee shot. You got 75% of your handicap and you took your net low 2 of 4 scores each hole.

We ended up shooting 31 under and tied for first (lost the scorecard playoff).

Our 75% handicaps were 9,12,17 and 18. Our team was perfect. At least 1 would be in good shape and then I could bomb away. Everybody contributed equally on the team.

I also had a closest to the pin for $100 on the 180y 8th playing into a 2 club wind. Landed 1 foot from hole and rolled out to 4 feet. That was our first hole and it held up.

Overall fun format. Much better than a scramble.

I love shamble, we have a group that plays it a lot.

You would think the back 9 was tougher but it really isn't IMO. Maybe a touch tighter.

At least I made some birdies today including a 2-putt birdie on the 501y 13th. Had 199 to the green and hit a perfect 5-iron over the stick to 25 feet.
