First time out in a couple of weeks. Started not to badly and got better as I went round. Had two blobs on the front nine but nothing worse then two doubles on the back nine and one of those is the hardest hole on the course.

35 stablford.

3 pars, 10 bogeys, 3 doubles, 2 worse.

41-44-85 at Tiburon in Naples (where LPGA was at last week)

Very nice course. Was able to find the driver after a few holes.

0 birdies
8 pars
7 bogeys
3 doubles

Only found one of the riveted bunkers which was hell.

16th

18th (view from the 9th)

43-43 86 at Bandon Dunes today. 2 birdies. 7 bogies. 2 doubles. Quintuple (9 on a 4). Perfect day. Will do a TR and pics when I'm home Thursday.

Then 42 (+3) on Bandon Preseve. So much fun. Best par 3 course I've ever played.

Forgot to mention my shot of the day yesterday.

355y Par 4 - I hit driver not knowing how tight of a fit it was after 240 so I hit my driver about 30 yards deep into the lateral hazard. Drop 2 into the crushed shell waste area and chunk my gap wedge from 115. From 20 yards short of the green I skull my 4th over into the pine needles then....

I hit a good chip, although a bit strong, and it hits the base of the pin, rolls a foot up the pin, and drops back into the hole.

Easy 0 putt bogey.

42-41 83 at Bandon Trails today. 1 birdie, 9 bogies and two doubles. Super fun course. Very different than Bandon Dunes but I can see how some people would find it to be their favorite.

Then 41 on the Preserve.

Another amazing weather day. Postcard type days this far.

I am a bit jealous sitting here in Ohio where it is like 38 and raining. Make sure you do a hole trip report when you are done.

Trails is my least favorite of the full length courses at Bandon.
1. Pacific
2. Bandon
3. Old Mac
4. Trails

Oh, and if the open side of the range is hitting towards the north, that means the Shorty's par 3 course is open on the south side. Donate a couple of bucks at the little shack next to the first hole and play any par 3 tee to green combo you want. A hell of a lot cheaper than the Preserve (but not as nice).

39-39--78

By far my best tee to green round of the year.

3 birdies
8 pars
6 bogeys
1 triple

10/14 fairways
12/18 greens
34 putts (including 3 3-putt bogeys on the front)

Greens were cut over the weekend and ran at an 11 or so.

Have been having trouble with a sway in my backswing leading to inconsistent irons. Decided to give Stack and Tilt a try this past weekend and was quite impressed with how I was hitting my irons. Felt much more stable and centered, and hit some really pure, flushed irons. Driver not as good... I didn't lose any distance but ball flight was much lower and I fought the hooks off the tee for the entire round.

I know SnT gets disparaged as a gimmick by many, but I may work on this swing change over the off-season. Conceptually, it seems to make sense to me.

Played Old Mac today and it was wild. Those greens are huge and undulating. Fun course and again very different.

42-40 82

3 birdies. 6 bogies. 4 doubles (3 of those were 3 putts also - lol missing greens and then 3 putting)

Then spent some time at the punch bowl putting corse which was a blast.

Pacific tomorrow and then back to the real world. Weather might be crap but we'll see - may get to use all this rain gear I bought.

that feeling you get playing Old Mac for the first time, having heard all the talk, and then the first two holes are interesting but nothing unique. then you discover you have to hit your drive on 3 over the hill past the ghost tree and have no clue where it's going or what's coming.

you walk up the hill, reach the top, and see the rest of this crazy course from its highest vantage point. it has no trees other than the dead snag you just walked past, just mounds and mounds of playable grass. hard to tell where fairway ends and rough begins, hard to tell where fairway ends and greens begin.

i've never been so conscious about taking a full turn while putting as i was while playing old mac. 80+ yard putts are frequently the proper play...unless you have the ability equivalent to perfectly clipping a chip from the parking lot.

Finished off the Bandon experience with Pacific Dunes yesterday. 44-44 89. 1 birdie and a ton of bogies/doubles and a nice quad on a 120 yard par 3 :-/

Hardest course IMO and some fatigue from a couple of long days lead me to play my worst round. Was terrible off the tee all day And didn't hit very many great shots. Did par #4 which is def one of the signature holes - hit a really fun high cut that released nicely and rolled about 8-10 feet past the pin. Burned the edge for birdie.

Great course and I can see why it's the most highly ranked. Also got super lucky and the weather was great again - mostly sunny and the wind stayed down for all but 2 or 3 holes. Didn't get any rain for the 4 days of golf until we were pulling out of the resort yesterday afternoon. Bink.

Full trip report coming later this week.

Looking forward to the write-up KingJames. Would also like to know prices as well.

43-47--90 today.

Chipping was awful. Story of my day was the 18th, 513y par 5. Cut the corner of the dogleg off and have 178 to the pin. Flush a 7 iron over the green. Hit chip fat into the bunker. Blast the bunker shot over the green. Say "eff it" and take putter from 50 feet (and 15 feet off the putting surface) to 4 feet. Make it for bogey.

during the offseason you might as well stay on property to get the green fee discount instead of staying in old town Bandon and driving 15 minutes each way...it's pretty much a wash. during peak season it may be cheaper to stay in Bandon, but you won't have access to all of the course amenities.

caddies (if you want them) should make a minimum $100+ a round, doesn't matter if it's for one player or 4.

mckees' is the cheapest dinner option.
the gallery is the best breakfast option.

i go every january, and the round + half a chrome lake double is $185 a day.
yes, it can be cold (mostly in the morning)
yes, it may rain (but it typically comes in waves and isn't constant throughout the day)
yes, it will likely be windy (but winter winds are usually the opposite of the summer prevailing winds, and the courses are generally designed to let the summer winds punish you)
i finished all 3 rounds the first week of january last year wearing shorts and long sleeves with temps in the mid 60s.

Yea, I would gladly pay 185 for 2 rounds in a day.

Sun never came out, not sure if it ever got over 40 degrees.

I hit so many awful chunks today.
Pretty much no roll, farthest drive all day was like 268 and not all that many over 250

42 - 41 = 83
29 putts with no 3 putts
6/14 FIR
5/18 GIR

2 birdies, 5 pars, 9 bogeys, 2 doubles

You need to plan your winter golf vacation right about now.

Indeed. Might actually hit 50 the next 2 days and high 40's few after that.

You know the season is pretty much over when they have the cross country skiing and sled tracks marked out all ready to go on the golf course.

42-41-83. No birdies, 1 double bogey.

Not quite as warm as predicted but still just fine. Course was busy, solid tee times from 10 until 2 or so. Conditions were surprisingly good, the greens hadn't been mowed but they still rolled reasonably quick.

Ball striking was good especially considering the layoff. Chipping was good, though I need to work on getting in 2-3 foot range instead of the 5-6 foot range more often. Putting was lousy, burned a ton of edges.

Enjoy it as long as you can.

46-40--86 - Can anyone guess which 9 was mostly against a 2 club wind?

1 birdie, 3 triples, lots of pars, a few bogeys

I am so lost off the tee right now, need some rang time. Ball striking was better as I was able to find the bottom of my swing after doing the scorecard drill for a while last night. Lost track of how many lip out I had, couldn't make a putt to save my life.
Only highlight was a cart path assisted 330 yard drive.

39 - 40 = 79
34 putts with no 3 putts
3/14 FIR
9/18 GIR
1 birdie. 10 pars, 6 bogeys, 1 double

Playing again tomorrow so I should be able to go low 70's. So rusty only playing like 8 rounds in the last month, I suck way to much to sniff par only playing once or twice a week. Is spring here yet?
