I sucked at golf today, mostly 3 hole meltdown. Was going to try and be all focused today and when I get to first green I realize I had taken my putter in the house and forgot to put it back in my bag. Totally ruined any chance at focus, got some ****ty one from the 35 year old rental set they had. Not a good start and just threw me off. Sprayed the ball everywhere again today. bleh bleh bleh

Fourball betterball we lost 5 and 4.

The rainiest day in months and maybe the windiest. We had the honour on the first tee and never saw it again. We played a 4 and a 6 handicapper and once the rain stopped on the tenth they put the foot down and finished it off with three birdies and a par. I didn't play particularly well but did manage to halve four holes on the trot.

It was interesting playing with much better players then I normally do. they weren't miles ahead of me off the tee and typically hit a couple of clubs less but they routinely left them selves eight foot putts from a hundred and twenty yards in and made eight foot putts about half the time.

36-40-76. 2 birdies, no double bogeys.

Not a bad day at all for November. Ball striking was mediocre but I kept it in play. Putting felt pretty good - love how the greens roll this time of year once the poa dies out and they shut off the sprinklers.

Had to invoke the leaf rule once when I banked one into a 3 foot deep pile of oak leaves.

Nice round, nothing worse than trying to find your ball you know exactly where it is under 3 feet of leaves, way more likely to find 4 other balls while looking for yours.

Had to play the front 9 twice because of some slow play.

1 birdie
7 pars
6 bogeys
3 doubles

Driver is awesome (detailed that in M1 Day 1 thread)

If I didn't totally screw up some short iron shots and 3 3-putts I could have easily shot in the 70s.

30 points.

Very shaky never felt comfortable over the ball, Hit a couple of pull hooks out of bounds and spent a lot of time worrying about my alignment.

4 Pars, 4 bogeys, 8 Doubles, 2 worse.

Played pretty easy course that I play a decent amount, just not my home course (69.8/114)
Didn't drive the ball nearly as bad as it looks in the stats, couldn't sink a putt to save my life though. Decent day scrambling, ball wasn't going too far today since it was slightly on the chilly side.

Really wasn't very sharp today. There were enough good shots to keep the score down. Starting to develop some confidence in the 3 wood, but the one hybrid I attempted was awful.

i purchased a lynx chipper... i know it's old man club but i don't have time/money for tons of lessons and/or practice. so it works really well. i play it differently than my friend who suggested it. i think he plays it mid-stance and pops the ball up whereas i play it back stance and really try to trap it hard on many shots. great contact, good distance control and it bites pretty nicely... a very good addition to the bag...

one nice thing is i'm focussed more on course management. like leaving layup/advancement shot on par 5 or long par 4 in a good position. both vis-a-vis shape of green/pin AND not hitting it in the rough. seems like pro's are obsessed with NOT hitting in rough but amateurs don't think that much. makes an especially big difference in winter golf.
Grew up minutes from Morgan Creek. Still haven't played it.

How much was the green fee?

+2 38 - Played 9 holes after checking out the TaylorMade demo day at the club.

1 birdie, 5 pars, 3 bogeys

Fun 9th hole. 485y par 5. Had 196 to the pin for my second. Hit 6 iron into a tree. 3rd had 153 9 iron and hit a tree. 4th had 123 and hit gap wedge to 2 feet. Easy par.

played at very very wet Redwoods in Vancouver, Canada.

shot a 90 which was pretty good for the incredibly wet conditions. shots from the rough were crazy hard, even with free lifts.

driving and putting were outstanding... everything else in-between mediocre at best. thinking 50/50 wet conditons vs. me on the mediocre non-drive/putting.

getting closer i think....

99 at Bandon Trails. No additional stats, but probably like 6-7 fairways and 3-4 greens.

First three holes were awful -- quad, quad, triple. Didn't help that it was raining pretty hard and I had been in car driving down from Portland starting at 515 am. Holed a 50-foot putt from fringe for birdie, but missed a couple of eight-footers for birdie as well.

Tomorrow is Pacific and I hope I get better. Fantastic place down here, though.

39-39-78. 2 birdies, 1 double bogey.

At least that's what the card said, I wasn't keeping it and didn't much care. A nice November day and one more on tap for tomorrow. We also found at least 3 dozen balls, including about a dozen Pro V1s or similar. Being the first group off after 2 days of wind rearranged all the leaves ftw.

34 ... for 7 holes. Skipped 2 holes because of a slow threesome and foursome ahead of me. Clear sailing after that.

Actually the threesome had what could be the worst player I have ever seen on that course. Was waiting til they hit on a par 3 before I went past them. Dude takes 2 practice swings with divots for both. Lines up and backs off to reconsider club choice. Gets over ball again and produces some topped ball that barely makes it off tee box. Over the ball he was bouncing like he was trying to sit in a chair. Worst..swing..ever.

As for me it was a windy day and the driver didn't cooperate. 2 birdies, 1 par, 2 bogeys, 1 double, 1 triple.

53-39-92 at Pacific Dunes. Super windy but no rain. Hit the pin off the tee on 17 but bounced 15 feet away.

575-yard 18th into the teeth of the wind is one of the harder holes I've ever played. Driver, 17-degree hybrid, 17-degree hybrid -- all hit well -- still left me 85 yards to green. Brutal.

Punchbowl putting course in the dark is awesome, BTW.

+4 on the back is nothing to be ashamed of. even being on the green at 17 is a feat (depending on tee location), and 18 is a boss of a hole. guessing you played the four par-3s on the back pretty well?

My game goes downhill so fast when I am not playing 5 days a week. 2 days a week not nearly enough. Is it spring yet?

I don't think I made a putt over 5 feet in the 27 holes I played today.

39-40-79. 1 birdie, no double bogeys.

Probably the worst ball striking day I've had in two months. Sprayed the ball some, half dubbed a couple and hit a lot of not-crisp irons. Short game bailed me out a bunch, saving pars and bogeys.

Might be the last round of the year, can't play tomorrow and the weather is supposed to turn after that, a couple days of rain and then highs of ~ 40 for the next ten days. Yuck.

Yeah, think I was +1 on the par-3s. Super happy with that back nine. Best I played all weekend.

47-47-94 at Bandon Dunes. Got the full Bandon experience today: Heavy rain, hail, 40-mph winds and even some sun.

One of my playing partners went driver-wedge on a 533-yard par 5 -- and was well over the green.

I hit a putt to 3 feet ... from 55 yards out in the fairway.

And my umbrella even survived after inverting on the 4th. Didn't pull it out again after that.

Just an amazing experience all around. I can't get back here soon enough.

Last three holes at Emerald Hills, Hollywood, FL (blue tees, 72.2, 136) this weekend:

Three of the most difficult (when combined) finishing holes in golf. I am NOT in any way a long hitter:

Hole 16, 421 yards:

Driver, 200 yard into wind 3 wood to 3 feet – birdie

Hole 17, 187 yard (playing 195 into stiff wind):

3 wood to 20 feet long, left putt dead online a foot short  – par

Hole 18, 565 yards with very wet fairway:

Driver (not great), smoked 3 wood, another 3 wood over water to four feet – sadly lipped out birdie

Never hit an iron on the three holes

Unfortunately only shot 82 because of 4 DB’s
