yayyy, it actually happened! So I've made some posts recently about how
I'm coming off a brain trauma surgery and coma and rehab stay and how
I managed to pull a +2 on 9 after being in a wheelchair, then how
I pulled a +3 on a par 3 course where my goal my entire life has been to break 30, and today I finally just did it!
I played one round at the par 3 course and it didn't go too great, I 3 putt a few times and on 9 even lost my first ball in the hazard, then hit another and found it in the hazard and had to pull it. I don't even know the exact scores there. I gave myself a ? for a score, but since it's cheap to play twice in a row I played another round and it all came together. Here's my scorecard.
Yep, I pulled a +1, 28. 6 pars, 2 bogeys, and 1 birdie. The bottom number is that I'm tracking how many putts I made as a bad putter normally, and I got through these 9 with 14 putts.
There is one thing I need to change that makes this a bit too easy. I don't play from the tips, I play from the second tees. So on 5 my shot could have been from 207 out but my tee was actually 10 yards behind the women's tees, so it was only about 132 away, but I hit a decent 8 iron here.
I was very happy with my play on 7. Typically I do very poor on this hole, and this time I was about 151 out and I hit my 6 iron pretty close. I even managed to make this putt, which put me at even par on the round, and at that point I started to think "darn, I might actually break 30 this time."
Then on 9 I knew I had to not royally screw up and drop a ball or two in the hazard on the right, so I was very careful with my tee shot and ended up with a really good one:
This is the hole that I managed to 3 putt last time to shoot exactly 30 when a 2 putt would have gotten me what I've been trying to get, so I find it funny for a few reasons that I pulled a 3 putt from this close. First I was just happy because I didn't hit it in the water and I knew I was gonna make my goal.
It amuses me how I managed to 3 putt on 9 when I could've gotten lucky and broke par. Just like the book I'm re-reading is called,
Golf is not a game of perfect, and I don't expect to pull what would pretty much be a perfect round for me if I went 1 under par. I don't plan to, I don't get sad when I don't, and I don't expect to do so amazingly well, but I still love the game.
One last thing I gotta say: I've gotten in FitBit walks lately and I was looking for podcasts, and
I found one called Golficity and I think it's great. It's made my walks even better and I actually talked to the maker on email because I had some questions about the podcat, and I told him about my surgery stay that turned me back into golf, and he might even tell my story on a podcast, which I'm thrilled about. It's mainly because how golf can be a game for life, you can play it when you're 80 years old if you can still walk, and in some ways golf can be a game you return to if you show some dedication, no matter what you went through. I recommend it, good listen. Thanks guys.
