purchased some new ("new" to me) irons...... used titleist AP1 with regular shaft. was playing adams cb3 with stiff shaft.
anyway, I think they are much much better for me.... I've had some problems with chunking shots. in very wet winter/spring, they were often full chunks. in dry summer now they are more like "come up 15-20 yards short"
anyway, with my new titleist ap1 with regular shafts I really felt myself hit pretty far behind the ball and it seemed like the club saved the shot. nice shot.
is the extra forgiveness on wedge shots both the AP1's face and the shaft greater whippiness?..... are reg shafts more forgiving if you hit behind the ball?
one thing I love about these new irons is I can hit many different shots including swinging really hard and hitting high and low... with my adams CB3 with stiff shaft it seemed like I was just trying to make good contact.
fyi, I bot them at local golf club. assume they were rental/demo set. titleist branded pro shop.............. I may in time look for used AP2.
Left a lot of shots out there. Could have easily shot in the 70s. The doubles were the result of hitting it in the water, including blading a wedge laying up on a par 5. Fail.
Smooth 46-39 in a casual tournament yesterday. Super frustrating, as for the most part I drove the part straighter and longer than usual, but could not find an iron game to save my life. Really frustrating being 110-130 out and not being able to find the green.
A very ugly round I had a lesson before in which I was told to tilt my hips I instead curved my spine to get to the right with disastrous effects until I realised what I was doing after 9 holes.
I was in a stroke play competition and a friendly stablford competition and at one point being unable to score points picked my ball up incurring a two stroke penalty.
Front nine.
1 Par, 3 Bogeys, 3 Doubles, 2 Worse.
Back nine
4 Pars, 2 Bogeys, 2 Doubles, 1 Worse.
Played two balls all the way around due to some no shows to keep the game balanced (theoretically). Back to not being able to hit a decent shot. Awful in all respects.
49-50--99 from the tips of probably the hardest public course in the county (Mohansic). Played kinda bad and had no real idea where my driver was going, but ultimately not a terrible score for me in the grand scheme of things.
I probably would have scored approx 115 in the same conditions last year so trying to keep it positive

Don't take this the wrong way but why were you playing from the tips?
Yeah it's not that long. The 3 guys I was playing with wanted to play the back tees and I didn't really feel like being the only one to play the whites. Annoying but whatever
First nine I had 39 with 6 pars and 3 bogies, which was decent considering I hadn't played for a while. The last nine I had 34 (-2) and I really got my mojo going. Total 73 (+1).
The last 18 was a really strange round. Started the first hole with hooking, not really snap-hooking but hooking it enough to be way to left to hit a decent second shot. Found the ball in good shape. 158 metres side/against wind. I figure I don't want it to be a flyer so I take a iron 7, hit it a bit thick straight towards the green. DIDNT FIND THE MOTHER ****ER. Managed to get 8... on that par 4. So +4 after 1 hole and then made 12 straight pars and then 2 birdies to be +2 after 15. I finished bogey bogey and on 18th another 8. +8 on two holes and +8 total. lol
Was split 12th after first and 43rd after second round. fml
I was in the northern Virginia area for a sort-of golf trip during my wife's conference. Played about as consistently and well as I have in my life. Short game has really come together this year (I wish I'd added a 60 to my bag years ago).
Played the Reston National 18 holes one day and 36 the next and my 9-hole scores were all 40-44. Then I played with some friends at another course around there and had a ten foot putt for 37 on the front nine (for my best nine ever!). 3-putted obviously.
Everything finally feels consistent and I now feel like the way forward is more about improving the various areas of my game. It used to be that I felt like it wasn't worth bothering to practice short game stuff when I chunked my irons half the time and regularly hooked my driver into the woods.
My friends were legit impressed with my play, which felt great. 3 tap-ins for birdie out of 4 par fives on that last round!
only 9 holes was open, everything was wet as ****. Everything was plugging and had a bunch of casual water drops, golfed awful first time though found something 2nd time through, think I shot like 45 - 40

I played Putnam County on Sunday, passed Mohansic on my way home and thought I'd like to play there next. How are the conditions and value for the $$?
