Back to 6,600 yards after Dad left town. Played better than my score on the front, took a 10 on one hole where I inexplicably couldn't get off the tee with like minimal water to cross. Putted extremely well for me, and I'm starting to hit the 3 wood decent. Slowly improving.

47-45.

Couldn't straighten it out off the tee. Putted well. 1 3-putt, 4-5 just misses.

Cinnabar Hills, Lake-Canyon, 42-43...finished up double-double-bogey on the last three holes. Good score for me, but just leaving a ton of strokes out there...

ugh 88 today. sanded greens are a bitch to putt on, and a mediocre iron game and an absymal short game combined to negate probably my best driving round of the year. great weather, though

BEAT: I sit within earshot of one of the admins who, today, booked two of our officers and two guests for January at one of the nicer local courses.

12 holes, +1. Including the 9 holes last time, I had 17 straight pars, no birdies...really annoying. Had 10 of 12 birdie putts all <25' and couldn't get any to go. Meh, still won my match

Played Eagle Glen in Farwell, MI on Tuesday, taking advantage of the summer-like weather (80 degrees - w00t!) we were having. I shot 84, which is good for me. It was a bit windy and Eagle Glen is a links course so we felt the full effect.

These are all good things. Hopefully you played from the back (6600 yards). Also, I like the $33 rate w/cart.

Nope, I played from the middles. It made the par 3's bearable, but it was really short. A lot of 320-360 yard holes.

We only paid $25 w/cart! And they let us go out as a 5-some. It was a good day.

Boulder Creek. Horrible putting after several decent putting rounds. Missed at least five 3-footers. Went on tilt for a nice little 4-hole stretch starting at 9. Bad off the tee too. Not happy, but at least my bad rounds right now are 103 and not 113.

My dad finally replaced his 16yr old TaylorMade blades today (his 5i has been broken for >1month) with Callaway Fusion irons. He's a 14 cap and am totally stoked to see how he hits the new sticks. He's lost his last 4 matches to me, so hopefully this helps even it out :P

84 (+5 on the last 4 holes and +7 on the last 7, ugh). I don't know how this round wasn't in the 90s. I sliced a drive about 80 yards left on a par five and scrambled for bogey, and the very next hole I hooked a drive about 120 yards left. I don't think I've hit a drive that poorly in years (and I made par despite being about 250 out, lol). It helped a lot that I didn't take a double bogey until 17.

Played in some off and on showers today with kyleb and entity. I picked entity up and he wanted to stop for coffee on the way to the course and somehow conned me into letting him buy some for me, even tho I knew I shouldn't. Was soooo jittery to start, and my hands are already super shaky to begin with 'cause I have low blood sugar.

So get up to the first tee box and I'm physically shaking standing over the ball. My swing does not even make contact with the ball, hits the ground, and the ball gets knocked off the tee 4 yards to the right costing me $40. Very nice. Proceed to lose something like $280 in the first 3 holes.

Work my way back up to probably being slightly up by the back. Then on hole 13 I implode. Came up short right on a 195 par3 into greenside sand, costing me $80. Then somehow fail to get out, costing me $160. Lost the hole to both plus kyleb got GIR and won CTP for a total loss of $380 on the hole. Plus my next sand hazard is gonna cost me $320 ($640, $1280, etc) and there's 5 holes left. Beautiful. Manage to avoid sand the rest of the way, even tho I had to change my shot after missing my approach short left and having to shoot over a trap to a shortside pin. Ended up going long just to be sure.

Salvaged the round a bit toward the end and shot 100. Somehow only lost $120 to kyleb and $10 to entity. Must golf again this week.

37 (par 35). Tees were way up, which was nice. Only took 16 putts - good for me - plus two more putters from the fringe.

Shot 82. Good thing is that I won $15. Could have lost $100+ if the two other people I was playing with made birdie putts on 18. We were playing the 9 game and at the end it was $3 a point. If you beat both guys by two shots, you win $54 on one hole.

Yesterday I took part in a tournament at the goofy but unquestionably beautiful Hassayampa Country Club, upstate in Prescott. With highs in the mid-90s in Phoenix, it was a perfect 75-80 there.

The course is overlaid on a previous nine hole muni course, with most of the goofy holes existing between 1-7 and the final hole. The course also features probably the best clubhouse I've ever been in, even though there are no doubt finer ones that won't let me in the door.

I don't know much about the stimpmeter but they were very VERY fast greens. Thankfully Weiskopf, unlike most other designers, prefers flat greens with subtle breaks. I played with an old friend of mine who plays on the mini tours and we went on a sick run where he birdied 5 and 6, I birdied 7 and 8, he followed with birdies on 9 and 10, I birdied 11, but the magic ran out after we had very makable putts on the difficult 12th but misread both of them.

It was handicapped, however, and we finished one spot out of the money at -10, two shots behind third and four shots clear of the two-way tie for first which featured two of our buddies, so good for them. However, I was drunk and for some reason ended up buying one of them drinks at Kevin O'Donnell's bar (Kevin was there too, busing tables oddly enough, and we talked with him for a bit). We got fairly wasted, good for him since he has a young kid and doesn't get out much...

Some friends and I drove up to Prescott one day while I was in Phoenix. I think it was called Prescott Lakes.? We were the only ones there because the wind was blowing 40-50mph. It was about this time of year. Like you said, the greens were so [censored] fast!!! I've never played such unbelieveable greens before. It was seriously like putting on linoleum (sp?). I really liked it up there and will definitely go back some day. How many courses are up there? Have you played them all tuq?

westhoff,

Oddly, Prescott is a golf mecca of sorts. There are low-end courses like Prescott Country Club and a nearby par-3 course whose name escapes me. There is also Antelope Hills, which has two courses that are among the best munis in the country, as well as Stoneridge, a fairly new daily fee that is definitely a weird course but which is kept in shape.

That leaves the three private courses. Talking Rock, located out past everything, is a course in great shape and with pretty awesome views, but just not gifted with the same piece of land that the others have. Hassayampa is the least fair of all the Prescott courses but it probably features the richest membership and easily the best clubhouse.

Which leaves Prescott Lakes. Probably among my 2-3 favorite courses anywhere, it went private a couple of years ago and broke my heart in the process. Unlike the Weiskopf layout, this Hale Irwin track features greens with a LOT of undulation. That's the one thing I don't like - you really can't cut those greens too low because there are so many breaks on the greens that you can get totally effed on the wrong side of most of them.

My favorite nine ever happened on Prescott Lakes, when I shot a 5-under 31 and responded with a 5-over 41 on the back. I birdied 1, 4, 6, 7, and 9, managing to only par both of the par-5s. I also birdied the tenth to get me to -6, and after a lame par on the easy par-5 eleventh proceeded to give all six shots back over the next five holes in a series of bizarre events. To my credit I parred the final two holes to finish even and cap a pretty awesome round.
