Tuq,

Try offering them a better line. Like .8 stroke/hole.

GOT,

Good idea, I might even offer them .85 if necessary.

No but really, if you're 3 strokes better you should just draft off holes. They get 12 and you get 6, that way there's still action on every hole.

I've been a golf nit lately because I'm using new clubs. After I hit the range and get comfortable I'll be playing again. I like .5 strokes per hole with you getting one even hole per side.

Also escalators in the hazards and such.

I need an edge. Let's do fairways hit as well.

Also that $80 DO was totally ridiculous.

Jesus how do you get away with this. Does telling him no bets actually work for you?

8.

Round called after two holes due to lightning. I'd just birdied #2.

Went out by myself yesterday since kyleb is a life/golf nit. Shot well for the first 5 holes then went double/triple/double and felt like suiciding. Played consistently mediocre on the back with nothing good and nothing horrible happening. Putting was pretty bad throughout, much worse than it has been in a long time. Sunk 2 putts outside 6 feet.

I HATE WHEN THIS HAPPENS.

Made a time to play 18 at a metropark course we played a lot as teenagers. Nostalgic. Plus I like going back and shooting in the 70s at courses where I once struggled to break 100.

So I get there at the last minute after a 45 minute drive that started in the dark...and...they are sending groups off the back nine. The first hole is a nice par-4, 375 yards with a large bunkered green. Number two is a short par-5 you can get in two. I had been thinking about these two holes all the way there and instead I get: a 445 yard par-4 with thick woods down the right and a green tucked in behind a water hazard, followed up by a tight dogleg par-4 through the woods.

I shot 42-36-78.

82. Best putting day I've had in a long time, although I did manage to three putt a hole from four feet on the front before I got it sorted out. I switched to a longer putter (38" instead of the usual 35") and a conventional grip.

In a weird coincidence, I started out exactly the same way I did on Tuesday - double bogey from the middle of the fairway on #1, birdie on #2.

So we played 23 holes today at Sunridge Canyon, a very nice course outside of Phoenix. Two man teams, the morning was a handicapped best ball, the afternoon was a non-handicapped shootout.

It's our bad for falling in love with the other team in our group's result, because we finished one shot out of first in the morning. They shot a whopping -6 on the front, four shots better than us, and even though they backed up two shots on the back we figured we were well out of it. Nope.

Anyone who has played that course can appreciate the howling winds that met us just as we started playing up the 11th hole. I hit 16* hybrid, 4-iron on 11 and two-putted for par and that was a huge achievement. On the twelfth hole, which is generally a 9-iron even from the back tees, I killed a 7-iron into the right bunker and we escaped with a net bogey. Total mayhem.

Despite all this we finished one shot out of first, the team playing with us tied for the win. In the short afternoon alternate shot session, we staved off elimination when I won us a chip-off after a lackluster bogey on the easy first hole. We were only two of six teams to par the second, and not a single of the four remaining teams found the fairway on the third. Using the "desert rule", three of us were able to get decent drops, but one team pull hooked it into houses and obviously out of play. We limped to a three-putt double bogey and two eights faced in a chip-off.

We had a pretty easy go of it the next hole as, down to three teams, one team completely wrecked themselves and shot a whopping nine on a par-4, albeit a hard hole.

On the final hole, the #1 handicap and among the hardest holes on the course, a narrow 460 or so par-4, I talked my teammate into using his hybrid club to avoid the choke point. He did so, and I had ~160 in. My pitching wedge, easily the correct club downwind and downhill, was a lame fan to the right, and we gave props to our Cuban counterparts who parred the hardest hole on the course while my ~15 foot putt to tie slid by.

So it goes. Our team paid $25 for 14 holes of golf, net, and the Cubans were nice enuogh to buy us a drink as they won the shootout.

Just got back from Hawaii this morning at 5a.

We played two rounds at The Prince at Princeville, one round at Kiahuna, and one round at Poipu Bay.

If you're going to Kauai any time in the near future, there are a couple of good multi-round deals you can take advantage of. One of them allows you to play 3 rounds at any of the Princeville courses over 6 days for $309, and the other is supposed to get you one round at Princeville, one round at Kauai Lagoons, and one round at Poipu for $390.

The (slight) catch here is that Kauai Lagoons is having major work done now, so you only get to play the front nine at Kiele. However, Princeville accepted the Kauai Lagoons coupon, so it was effectively $390 for two rounds at The Prince and one at Poipu.

The Prince is an effing hard course, especially for a hack like me. The white tees there are 72.1/133/6521/par 72. I shot 46-48 the first day, which I was actually pretty happy with, and 49-48 the second day which I was not so happy with. It is beautiful, though, and should not be missed on a visit to Kauai.

Kiahuna is down the street from the Marriott where we were staying and is more of a wide-open, resort-y course. We had to play a few holes in driving rain, and the wind had much more of an effect there, but it's less penal nature (and shorter length - I played the blues 70.3/126/6183/par 70) allowed me to shoot 39-45. I don't recommend this course with all the other options, unless you can get a big discount.

Poipu is on TV every year, so is easily viewable for most fans. The posted distance for the blues was 6612, so I opted for the whites at 6127. Some of the tees were moved up (to intermediate teeing grounds, not the forward boxes) though, and I estimate the course played more like 5800-5900. Like I said in the photo thread, I played the first 7 at +1, then finished the front nine triple-triple, and sputtered to a 43-44 round. Good score for me, but it should have been much better.

Went to South Carolina to visit my girlfriend this weekend and get a round in with some old college friend and actually posted by lowest round (49-41=90). I haven't touched clubs in two months, so I was really pleased. Also only 3-putt twice and holed out a 30 yard chip with a 9 iron for birdie on the back 9 (my only birdie of the course, but had 4 pars on the back 9). I was pretty stoked considering I'm a 21.4 index.

Course was actually surprisingly long for a course that isn't supposed to be overly difficult, including a par 4 that was 475 and a par 5 around 560 (and I definitely was not playing from the tips).

Mediocre everywhere. Had a few great shots and a few horrid shots of every variety. Putted well for me, and chipped horrid, especially considering how well I had been chipping. Good news is I swept my Dad in all 3 rounds we played on his visit, nursing home a 1-shot lead through the last 3 holes.

Five player scrambles today and we had two women who could play alright. You gotta love 435-yard par 4s where the women's tee is set up at 325.

14 birdies and 4 pars was good for the win and a sweet crystal trophy!

42. Birdie, five pars, double, two triples. One triple caused by errant tee shot into jail, other by not finding a ball that should have been found.

It sure is fun to putt decently.

Next 12 +5 86

Takes a while to warm up.
O yeah - Brag - 38F, cloudy, breezy, 9 pars

82. +7 on the par 3s, despite being pin high on 3 of them and on the green on a fourth. Putting was rather shaky.

Did have a highlight, though -- made an eagle on a par 4. Decent drive, 9 iron hit pin high right, took one bounce and spun back into the hole. ProV1 action FTW!
