oT,

Given that all you seem to do is play really nice courses around the world, I've come to the conclusion that you're independently wealthy. PM me for golfing buddy rates.
It's my wife's fault...she's a self-proclaimed course condition snob.

If I was independently wealthy, I wouldn't still be grinding the $4.15/post "admin approved poster" system here.

oT, "scattered showers" and "showers" in Hawaii doesn't mean [censored].

It almost always rains a bit in the afternoon there. But, no worries, even if you get hit with it, the rain is nice and warm and refreshing.

Poipu Bay is on the south side of the island, it is the sunnier side generally.

Brag (for me): I shot a 101 at Poipu Bay when I played there in August.
I'm just hoping the weather doesn't get out of hand is all.

I'm currently a 16, and these courses look tough, so if I can be solidly under 100 (and make meaningful contributions to the photos thread) I'll be happy.

85 at Rancho Solano in Fairfield, CA

39 on the front then started the back with a triple on 10- Par 5, tried to cut off the distance by going over some trees. Drive was too low and hit a tree dead center, ball ends up about 30 yards behind the tee and now have worse tree trouble. Not good.

I didn't shoot anything today, but my handicap came out and I dropped to 18.0 uggg.

I'm tettering toward the wrong side of bogey golf with just a little bit more than 1 month to go in my scoring season. And it's just as I finally feel like I got everything under control to play as a 15-16.

I have always had trouble with the 10th hole. You work to post a number on the front nine, then it is so easy to have a let down on the 10th.

Did you consider taking an unplayable lie and hitting your third shot from the tee?

Just be prepared to play in the wind. It rarely stops blowing in Kauai. You will love it.

I was playing in my regular Friday threesome when we were teamed with a single. He was riding and considerably slower than the three of us walkers, very annoying. On top of that he was playing terribly, yet laboring over every club selection, distance, etc. Ugh.

Then walking off the 15th green he says to me: "This game. If you don't play, you can't play. You know? You can't play if you don't play."

What?

Kind of a throwaway front. Struck the ball well, awful thinking and took a while for me to adjust back to slick Vegas greens after 2 rounds in St. Louis. Hit wood off every non-par 3 for the first time since I was a teenager, really pleased with the results. Consistent 220ish with the 3w, with a few as far as 230+. Settled down on the back, all bogeys with a double and triple that were both kind of bad luck. Happy with things right now.

87. Way too many double [censored] bogeys, including one where I hit an A+ drive in the center of the [censored] fairway, 125 from the [censored] green.

It would also help if I could putt.

40+42 = 82 (10 over). I played pretty much as well as I could on the front except for a triple bogey on 7 and a silly 3 putt on 9. I then played sloppy on the back and got to 7 over by 15. On 16 I yanked a 9 iron into the woods, had to chip out right handed from the mud and tall grass (I'm a lefty) over a mound, almost holed the chip in what would have been the most ridiculous shot of my life. I then missed the resulting 4 footer to save par
I added a double, a three putt bogey, and a birdie on the short par 5 18th to complete my round. Driving was great, iron play was good, short game (esp. distance control) was poor, and putting was erratic (my lag putting was horrible but my short putting was quite good). In a lot of ways this round was a microcosm of my golf game this summer and I definitely know what I need to work on to improve and break into the 70s.

Also a five + hour round thanks to two of the worst groups I've ever seen in front of us. Waited every shot.

Woke up at 6am yesterday after a late night. Teed off at 8:15 and started off double/double/triple/double/quad. I could barely swing I was so sore and stiff from night before. Got loosened up a bit and finished the front 9 alright.

Had probably my best 9 hole stretch ever on the back shooting 6 pars and 3 singles, but had 3 birdie putts inside 15 ft and didn't even scare the hole on any of them so kinda bittersweet.

Prob won't go out again till Wednesday.

GOT,

Can you guys play golf year-round in Seattle? How uncomfortable/miserable is it from November-March? I've heard the good weather is in the July-September frame, and the other months are really wet. Wet + cold = no good.

I'll start a thread soon regarding how many of the posters in this forum have the ability to play year-round where they live.

Mat was kind enough to spare this forum, but with only a small percentage (guessing) of posters able to play all year plus very few mentionable golf events between now and January (President's Cup and Q School, to be specific) I'm concerned for how many visitors this forum will get for the next six months, but particularly the next three.

I play all year in the Philadelphia and the courses are open weather dependent, i.e. you can play as long as there is no snow on the ground, and some mornings you have to wait for frost warning to be lifted.

The best part is that I don't have to contend with a whole bunch of fat, cart-driving slow golfers. And I enjoy playing on frozen ground with a lot of carry because it reminds me of Scotland. Plus I enjoy drinking Scotch to keep warm.

If you start a thread, I don't mind repeating myself, especially the part of not having to deal with people.

48-53=101 at Redgate, in Rockville, Md., which is not the kind of course where I should be shooting 30 over par.

First round in three weeks and I started well, but after four or five holes, I completely lost the ability to do anything. Occasionally, my alignment gets screwed up and I either block things out to the right or, in trying to adjust for that, hit way behind the ball and hook it.

Oddly, today, it carried over to my putting -- so I hit a lot of my putts like two feet right of where I wanted to. I don't know that I made a putt longer than my dick all day, which sadly means that I have a future in neither adult movies nor golf.

There are worse ways to spend four and a half hours on a beautiful afternoon than golfing with one's father, though.

84. Ballstriking good, putting horrible. Missed long, short, left, right, you name it.

Did have a little highlight, last par 3 hit a shot that was all over the pin. Came up about 12 inches short. Some day.

I really don't know 'cause I just started playing last spring and then didn't play from Sept to May. My guess is it's gonna suck though. I plan on playing thru the weather though so I can be putting up some decent scores by next summer. That and I think I'm pretty addicted already anyway. I wish someone had told me about this game sooner, it's so [censored] sick.

57-46 today at Deer Creek Golf Club in Littleton, CO from the gold tees, 6500 yards.

Fantastic course - one of the nicest and most challenging I've ever played. Plus we got an aeration special for $33 off the normal $75

Did not even think about it but thats a good idea for the future. I ended up a little behind my playing partner's drive in 3 anyway so it may not have made a big difference in this case

40-43 Saturday at Diablo Creek in Concord, CA. Flat longish course where the wind is usually howling. Saturday - calm, but damp

Poor iron play led to having to make some longer putts for par and bogey. Probably saved about 5 strokes with the flat stick.

84 (41+43) on par 71. Rather easy and open but my best score ever by far (prev best 89). 1 birdie, 7 pars, 2 triples, no doubles (!). Putting solid, drives far above average, just stayed out of trouble and consistently made my 6 footers. I'm stoked.

Played 9 today with kyleb. Impromptu round with a late start and we had a vvvvv slow 3some in front of us and had to wait at least a minute on most of our shots, despite them not even finishing half the holes.

Started off triple/triple due to an OB tee shot on the 1st hole par-5 then a v bad chip shot onto a very fast, very sloped green on the 2nd, followed by an atrocious 3-putt. Settled down after that and hit a lot of good iron shots. Went bogey/par/par/bogey/par on the next 5. Then hit a horrible first shot on a 144 par-3 that ended up short right and buried in some muddy rough. Could see 1/3 of the ball. Tried playing it like a sand shot but only got the ball 5 ft short of the green 'cause it was so thick. Couldn't get up and down and got a double. Bad tee shot on the 9th that left me no shot to the green. Hit my 3rd shot to 8 ft and burned the lip high to finish with a bogey.

Kyleb continues to hit his 3iron vvv well. If he could get his short irons under control and hit the weight room on the green he would prob destroy me.

+11 47.

Need to go out again Wednesday 'cause it's supposed to rain steady for the next week+ after that.

Can you expand on the type of bets and prop bets that you and kyleb have? That guy is an action junkie so there's no way you play without some bets on the line.

Lately, kyleb has been a huge golf nit. I've offered him .5 strokes per hole for $20/hole and he has refused the last two rounds. A couple times we have had huge prop sheets with payouts for things like:

Par
Birdie
Sand save
GIR
3-putt (penalty)
4-putt (penalty)
DO (penalty)
Sand hazards hit (escalator)
Water hazards hit (escalator)

The best was when kyleb pulled his tee shot way left, hit a tree, and came shooting backward and landed 3 yards in front of the ladies tees for a $80 DO. It was awesome.

He also gave me 5,000:1 on $5 on holing my approach shot once. It was an 8iron from ~5 yards behind the 150 marker to a back pin. I hit it to ~25 ft.

When we go on Wednesday we are definitely betting. I am making him. 2 rounds with no gamble is far too many.

Kyleb, if you are reading this, we are making a modified prop sheet AND playing .5 strokes/hole minus 2 holes of my choosing at 1.0

GOT,

The .5 stroke bet is easily the most underrated bet in golf IMO. It guarantees a winner and a loser.

In situations where someone is getting ~9 strokes in a round I always lobby for the .5 bet so there is action on every hole, but for whatever reason people look at me like I'm strange. Annoying.

If someone is getting let's say three shots in a round I offer them .5 shots on the six toughest holes, but this still seems to go over poorly, like I'm scamming them. Argh.
