yeah tell me about it, had just come off one of my better ball striking rounds of the year just a few days ago too which makes this even more frustrating.

I did that last weekend. Terrible 9 holes in the morning, great 9 holes in the evening.

45-50-95. I think breaking 90 is just around the corner. I had a few serious WTF moments today that even for me were WTF. Driving the ball better and better, thank god. Figured out my weight used to always be on my heels and now it's more toward my toes and it's been a world of difference.

Anyway here's the TLDR (9 hole course so holes 10-18 are same)
#1 short par 4 w/ forced layup off tee
7i pulled left.
PW to 32', line was really good but found out pin was way in front so distance sucked.
Here's a WTF moment. I hit my first putt 7 feet. I have no idea what caused it but I pulled up on the stroke somehow and literally skulled (actually above the equator) the ball and it hopped 7 ****ing feet. Just laughed - it was too early to get angry. Never ever has this happened to me lol. 2 putted from there for bogey. Sigh.

HOle 2 short par 4
Horrific drive <100 yards topped to the left. Old habit rearing its ugly head but no range here and was my first driver of the day. Whatever time to #dealwithit. 5i from there comes up a bit short. Hit a decent partial lob wedge shot but it runs off the back to the fringe. Putt out of the fringe to 4' make it for bogey.

Hole 3 par 3
9i just short of the green
SW chip turrrble settles in fringe (uphill green).
Putt from fringe is awesome and settles a foot away. Bogey. +3 thru three.

Hole 4
par 4 90d dogleg left.
Smoked driver but settles in first cut just left of FW.
****ty 8i that I block a bit and it rolls slightly down a steep hill leaving me a tough shot. Uphill shot and green is crowned at the top and immediately slopes down to pin which is like 15 feet from fringe.
I hit a chip about as good as I could hope for, lands softly on crown of green and rolls downhill, 14' past. Thrilled. Then I ****ing 3-putt lol. Double, after crushing drive and having fantastic approach length/angle. This kind of **** needs to stop.

Hole 5 par 5
Crushed drive but it's a high fade out of the fairway. Smash a superb 6i to middle fairway. 9i settles in grass a few feet from green. I putt it downhill out of the grass to 7 feet, then 2-putt from there. Bogey.

Hole 6 par 4 that plays long into wind.
Mash a nice drive into wind but fades a bit and settles just off FW.
5i lands short (if I have a shot longer than a 5i I sometimes play for up-and-down).
Nice chip to 7 feet. 2 putt again. Can't make anything. Bogey.

Hole 7 short par 4
Mash another nice drive into the wind this time settles just left of FW. Gap wedge my hosel got caught or some **** and I pull it short. Sigh. Pitch to 16 feet then 3 putt from there. God dammit. Double from a gap wedge approach with angle. Sigh again.

*** TAP IN BIRDIE ***
Hole 8 Par 5 playing about 485 today (lot of help from wind though).
Mash a drive 270 dead straight right in middle of fairway, phew. Green has a nasty bunker that eats into half of the left side of the mouth to green. I'm like 215 out but instead of going for it I opt for my usual shot, a 6i and play for the angle. 6i should go 170 and leave me about 45 yards out, a nice 3/4 lob wedge and I want to remove the greenside bunker from my third shot angle.
Crack the 6i dead straight right where I want it - forgot to account for all the wind - it goes about 185. But angle is great. I'm about 30 yards out though kind of in that "too close" area I usually **** up.
Anyway I hit a beautiful partial pitch shot that settles 8 inches left of hole for a tap in birdie. This was my 10th career birdie and first ever on a par 5 (sounds strange). And I almost holed out for eagle from 30 yards. Would have been funny to eagle a par 5 before ever birdieing one. 3 perfect shots in a row and I was left with a tap in birdie. Ahhhhh. I LOVE GOLF!

Hole 9 terrible par 3 - impossible to hit green.
I deliberately take 1 less club b/c I've been burned too many times here. 6i falls a bit short and right. 7:30 pitch to 8 feet... and of course I can't sink it. Bogey.

45 with 18 putts front 9.

Hole 10 short 4
Skull my 7i off the tee (WTF?) rolls up a ways into the fairway. I'm like 175 out and gotta fly a lake. No thanks - I lay up with a sand wedge. Gotta get up and down for par now. Third shot another sand wedge with good angle into green. Great shot to 18'. 2 putt. Bogey.

Hole 11 short par 4
Mash drive settles in left rough
gap wedge into green again hosel gets caught in grass (at this point I figured out what I was doing wrong today). Pull it left of green. Pitch to 25'. 3 putt from there. UGGGG. Again hit a good drive then ruin the hole.

Hole 12 par 3
9i just barely short of green. Pin near back and uphill - at least 50 feet away. I hit what I thought was a good chip and somehow it rolls past pin and off green. I would have never thought that ball would have rolled that far. I hit the shot I wanted to hit but now I'm left with a tough shot. I choose to putt out of 2 feet of grass to the close pin that is now downhill. Pop the ball in the air and it settles 3 feet away, barely on the green. God damn. I've got 16 feet downhill, now I hit my putt like halfway there JESUS lol. 2 putt from there for a damn triple. Horrifically bad even by my standards.

Hole 13 par 4 dogleg left
Murder my drive exactly where I want and it lands in FW just after the dogleg then of course rolls all the way into the right side rough. Whatever. 8i settles up on hill just right of green. Hit a really nice, soft chip shot to 8 feet. About as good as I could hope for. Then ****ing 2 putt. Bogey again.

Hole 14 par 5
Drive has pretty big slice on it and it lands in the lake. Drop with penalty. Hit a very good 4i that settles just left of FW but short of a big tree canopy. So I try to hit a 2i to make sure I get under canopy. Ball goes NOWHERE and settles up in rough straight ahead. Sick. At least the third WTF moment of the day for me. Hit pretty good 8i from there that lands on green but settles just behind it. A flyer basically. FU unpredictable grass. Terrific chip to 2 feet sink putt for Double.

Hole 15 longish par 4
Mash drive dead center into wind.
4i approach settles short (I took 3i out of bad and F the 2i)
Pitch to 23'
3 putt from 23'. Double. AIDS.

Hole 16 short par 4
Mash drive center fairway.
Fantastic pitching wedge 10' left of hole. Got a chance for first multi-birdie round ever.
Putt stop just right of hole, just past. Damn. Par is nice tho.

Hole 17 par 5
****ed this one up this time. Slice out of fairway. 6i out of grass again goes nowhere. 6i out of fairway is nice and settles up there short of green. Lob wedge pitch to 16 feet, 2 putt for Double.

Hole 18 par 3 again playing for short of green. 6i.
2nd shot little pitch nice to the elevated green to 5'
Of course missed that for Bogey.

All in all I'm happy as I haven't shot above 100 in a long time. HC keeps coming down and should keep coming down. I've had rounds where I've driven it much better, I've had rounds where my approaches were better, rounds where chipping and especially putting were better.

I figured if I don't have any WTF moments out there and the 4 shot types are all working I think I'd shoot 84 at this course without any actual improvement in my game. Thought I could have broken 90 today but alas it didn't happen. Excited about that birdie though.

And super excited about my driving. It's starting to resemble what it looked like last summer, though is more consistent. I'm no longer dreading the driver.

Also this is the 2nd round I've used the hinge and hold chipping method and I really like the results so far. The strikes are good - I just need to get used to my distances/touch, which will take time.

Been playing lousy lately. Played today at a course I'd only played once before. It's a semi-private course in a subdivision, which means lots of houses along the fairway, which means lots of slices OB off the tee. I f****** hate subdivision golf. Also hit my irons very poorly--even on the tee shots of par-3s. I really need to spend some time at the range before my next round. Putting wasn't great (37, I think), but the greens were pretty big and I did manage to sink a few putts. Only highlight was on a par-5. Okay drive down the right side of the fairway. Had a hook lie and went to hit a 5-wood, a club I've been pushing or slicing lately, so I figured the lie would offset that. Wrong, I hooked it into the water. Dropped the ball into the rough by the hazard, got an 8-iron onto the green from about 150 out, sank a 25-footer for par.

I was playing with a friend of mine who's probably about a 20 handicap. He was driving the ball really well but couldn't make any putts. We'd have probably done pretty well had it been a 2-man scramble.

I think you're a really good putter for you cap, Pelican.

I kind of enjoy subdivision golf but yeah it can get weird when you're walking around in some old ladies un-fenced backyard trying to identify your ball. I guess they're used to it though but I hate having that thought creep into my head on the tee "don't hit it in gradma's backyard - she might call the cops. And perhaps take off ski mask for this hole only."

Even-bogey (hey, if good people can say even par 72, I can say even bogey) 90 at the Blue course at the University of Illinois (that's the easy one). 47-43. Blew up in the middle of the round with a couple of 7s, played the last 4 in even par (including my second birdie of the season, a nice 30 footer on #15). First time playing there in 10+ years, definitely could have saved a shot here and there with a little better course knowledge.

A-Rod: buy a 19* hybrid and get rid of all those low irons that you don't hit anyway, and work on your putting, 3 putts from within 30 feet just kill your score and your confidence.

yeah really no reason to not be using hybrids now, they are so nice...i've got a 19* and 23* hybrid and then go right to a 5 iron, it works great for me i hit the hybrids much cleaner than a 3i and 4i

This. Same setup. I've really locked in my hybrids recently.

Shot 110 today on a par 72. Couldn't sink a putt to save my life. 5-putted once. That's a record.

Gah, played a soaking wet course I has never played before in Pittsburgh, tons of hills and elevation changes. some greens were pretty fast some were really slow, hit a bunch of chunky chips. shot 46-49 with two balls oob on the back.

Hit 3 drives today where my ball was embedded, so not much roll out there.

Explain the 5 putt!

I thought 4 was like the max possible, and I've done it a few times. My personal best is 90 but I also shot a 91 once with a 4-putt from 15 feet! 2 putt that and I break 90. lol.

Par 3, I put my tee shot on the right side of the green about 35 feet from the pin on the left side.

Left the first putt about 8 feet short, somehow fired the second putt about 4 feet by the hole up on a ridge, third putt about 4 feet by down the hill again. I just tapped it and the hill just ran with it. Fourth putt back up the hill I left half an inch short. I ****ed up, Julian.

27 Stableford points

Really poor scoring from some solid ball striking. Poor play around the greens and a couple of really idiotically optimistic shot selections. Trying to hit a low draw with a five iron, trying a flop shot from just off the green when I could and should have chipped.

4 Pars, 4 Bogeys, 5 Doubles, 5 Worse
4 FIR, 0 GIR, 32 Putts from 17 greens. I missed sub three foot putts on 2, 11, 15, and 17

Shoulda gone with the Seve answer:
