That story brings back some memories for me. The most frightening 20 minutes I've ever experienced was being caught on the Mt. Snow golf course in a thunderstorm. Jesus Christ I thought we were going to die, I could swear the lighting was right in front of me. We should never have been out there, and to this day the minute there is a crack of thunder or a hint of lightning, no matter how far away, I'm in the clubhouse.

I haven't had an experience like this despite all the golf I played.

That's probably why one time when we were in a huge monsoon storm we kept playing. We were on the 17th hole and the match was tied up. We were the only ones on the course at this point and a kid came out on a cart to tell us to come in. We said not gonna do it, we'll assume liability.

By the 18th hole, a par-5, the storm was bad enough that we would set down our clubs if we weren't hitting so as to not attract lightning. Pretty stupid but we finished the round and well, it gives us something to talk about now.

18 holes, #63 on Golf Digest's "America's Greatest Courses" list, for whatever that's worth.

Sweet. It was only a 9 holer in 1998. With a little more than a shack for a clubhouse.

Funny thing about you posting is that the last run in I had with lightning was at the Wigwam in March. The rest of the idiots in my outing wanted to keep playing, saying the lightning was miles away. Meanwhile, the sky looks like Baghdad circa 2003. I kept asking the 100 year old ranger about whether they would blow a horn, and he looked at me like he thought I was asking him to fellate me. Finally everyone goes inside as the lightning bolts start striking around us like we were trying to cross the Berlin Wall from the East German side.

Since I had soiled myself, I make a dash inside, foolishly leaving my sunglasses and Bushnell rangefinder in the cart, which was parked right in front of where the staff stores the clubs, i.e., where only the Wigwam's staff would walk. Of course, the next day I come back to find my sunglasses in the lost and found, but no sign of the range finder.

Nice town you live in.

niss,

Don't hate on Phoenix because you leave expensive stuff laying around for lowly employees to steal.

We don't do horns here. Probably because we get ~6 inches rain/year. But upstate where the monsoons routinely strike around lunchtime they do. I remember one time we had eight guys and they were sending off everyone as a shotgun even though it wasn't a tournament. They just wanted to send people off in two flights for whatever reason, morning and afternoon. The horn went off and most everyone drove in. Eventually it stopped raining but the bastards wouldn't blow the horn to resume so we just took it upon ourselves to play on. I think we fit in about 3-4 holes before the rest of the players came back out, and I think we pissed off the groups that came out because we caused a bottleneck.

The clubhouse is sweet now. Plus, we stayed at some cabins overlooking the lake and fairway on 15. So, so awesome.

Wow on those pics!!! On the playing in storms thing. (grew up in Kansas) After a huge thunderstorm moved through we went back out and played. We proceeded to watch a tornado touch down about 7 or 8 miles away. Stayed on the ground a couple minutes then disappeared. Just your average April evening of golf in Kansas watching tornadoes.

QFMFT.

Shot 42 yesterday (par 37). Never felt better with the putter - only missed one putt inside ten feet, everything else was dead center.

Brag: Shot 37 in my golf league at work today (par 35)
Beat: Ruined my handicap the week before the league championship
Variance: Nearly holed out on 2 and 9 and would have shot 34.

Is there a "Post pictures you've shot on the course" thread, and if not, why not?

If we all had an awesome camera like Clark
Canon SD800IS - Not that expensive.

I brought it to take a photo or two with some friends I hadn't seen in a while, then just happened to bring it on the cart with me.

Same camera I used in this trip report thread.

Thanks to all for the compliments. I like the photo thread idea and would re-post if someone wanted to start one.

Wolf 49-51-100. Played about a 96. Had two balls that at most were 2 inches in the desert that I couldn't find and had to take strokes, and a couple of really boneheaded plays. Still, a good round for me.

85. Didn't miss a fairway by more than three feet, that should tell you how bad the short game was.

It was still a lot better than Friday, which was pretty much the worst round ever.

46-44 with 5 penalties, 2 3-putts and 2 triples. It really shouldn't be that hard to clean up this mess.

Did something today I've never done.

Bogeyed 18 holes in a row for a 90.

On the last hole I was saying to myself, "Man, I got to make sure I get a bogey to save my streak."

Hey, at least it made me feel good about shooting a 90

Played in the company golf tournament on Friday at Lyman Orchards, a highly rated 36 hole public course here in CT.

280 players.
We came in 2nd last year on the same course (Jones) with a 59, and with a little wind this year we figured that score would take it. Our group consisted of three 11 hcps, and a 25. One of our guys can hit it 350, three of us are good iron players, and the other guy is really funny.

We made the turn at -4, and hit the kegs on the 10th tee while waiting on the 3 group backup.
The swing lube did the trick as we went -4 over the next 3 holes, and -8 on the back.

We were only the 10th or so team to post, but our 60 was well ahead of any other listed. As more and more groups cam in the scores seemed to get closer. A few 62's popped up, then a 61.
With 3 group remaining, I noticed one was the winner for the last 3 years, led by a guy on my softball team. I watched as he approached, scanned the board, then drop his head. He turned in his card, saw me and flashed his 2 index fingers. -11

MHIG!!! -12 holds!!!!

Man was it awesome taking the walk through the crowd of co workers, executives and vendors to collect our prize! Bragging rights for a year!!!! Whoooooooooooooohooooooooooooooooooooo!!!!!

Local charity 4 person scramble tournament at Wilkes Barre (PA) Muni. Three of us are OK golfers (shoot low 80s) and one guy's girlfriend who can hit some decent drives but hasn't played all year.

13 birdies and one bogey (our 2nd to last hole...what a mess!!!) for a 60. None of us (who have all been on "ringer" teams) have put up a 59. We wanted that sooooooo bad!!! We figured that bogey may have cost us everything.

This was the best round one of my teams has put together. Everyone contributed when needed. A few bombs fell for us, which is always good.

Anyway, they announce first place in 3 flights and for Championship flight, on a match of cards with 61, we win. We're happy that we won, but we shot 60!?!?!?!

I go up to the guy who has the cards, and lo and behold, on #9, we made birdie 3, but the guy keeping score wrote down 4 and circled it!!! Easy to do since that hole is the 5 handicap hole, and the line on the card with handicap is right above the top line, so his brain just went "birdie", saw the 5, wrote down 4.

Lesson learned....CHECK YOUR CARDS!!! We certainly wouldn't (and shouldn't) have any recourse if we lost everything because of this mistake (or worse, if we got DQ'd for an incorrect card)!!! All in all, a really good day, though.

86. It wasn't good but it could have been much worse. It would have been nice to have not made those two double bogeys from the middle of the [censored] fairway, however.

had a nice round set up for this morning but of course my partner canceled last night w/some [censored] excuse. I'm pretty sure he's busto and couldn't pay the $50 green fee so whatever. Instead I played the local par 30 9 hole course. Started off really hot, a birdie and then a tee-shot within 2 feet of the pin on the third hole 147 yrds. My iron play has really gotten better over the past few months but my putting is still the weakest part of my game. I have to spend a few weeks learning how to consistently stroke correctly.

Hopefully next weekend me and 2p2er Slider can get out for a full round.

Still a fun morning to play, about 80 deg here in LA.

also, I notice my right hand gets really really sweaty when I play and my game suffers b/c of a weak grip in the clubs. Would gloves help this condition? Even after drying them off on my towel their still very slippery.

Oh if you don't use a glove its a must. Right handed player? Put a glof on your left hand and it will make a huge difference.
