played with a guy the other day who used a long putter and didnt even use it properly, he had a Tony Batista stance where his toes pointed at the hole and he had the ball to the left of his left foot even though he was right handed. wasn't even a good putter, left every putt short.

he also farted while i was standing over a putt.

37-42-79. 2 birdies, 3 doubles. 10/13 fairways, 9/18 greens, 31 putts.

Ball striking was much better today. I made an adjustment that has me feeling like I'm getting more on top of the ball with the irons and that got me back to my usual distance. Accuracy is a work in progress. Also experimented with a different (shorter) putter. Results mostly good. Chipping sucked.

Hole 1 (380 par 4), very good drive in right center of fairway. Hit 8 iron a little fat, comes up just short and left. Good pitch to 6 feet, putt just misses right edge, tap in. 5.

Hole 2 (125 par 3), 8 iron comes up just short on fringe, about 12 feet to the hole. Leave approach short, make 2 footer. 3.

Hole 3 (540 par 5). Good drive, right center of fairway. 5i a little fat to 175. 3h to pin high just off the green to the right. Putter from off green (~ 40') too hard, runs 10' past. Make comebacker. 5.

Hole 4 (360 par 4). Good drive, left side of fairway. Yank 8 iron way left, ends up pin high. Mediocre pitch to 8 feet, make it. 4.

Hole 5 (175 par 3). Shaky 4i to 12 feet, make. 2.

Hole 6 (420 par 4). Excellent drive to 175. Awful toed 3h into trees on right. Chip out, runs just over green. Putter from off green to 8', miss. 6.

Hole 7 (385 par 4). Good drive, inches in right rough. Clunky 7 iron to 40'. Leave lag putt way short, miss 10 footer. 5.

Hole 8 (155 par 3). 6i to 8 inches. Make. 2.

Hole 9 (475 par 5). Good drive to center fairway. 9i layup for position. 7i to 5 feet. Miss. Dammit. 5.

37 (par 35).

Hole 10 (390 par 4). Good drive inches in right rough. Decide to get cute and play a cut just like my shot on 8 to a back right pin, it flies dead straight and rolls over the back left edge. Chip is a flier and rolls over. Putter from fringe (12') just misses, tap in. 5.

Hole 11 (465 par 5). Excellent drive left center. 8i for position. Push/blade 8i to 30', very good lag to 1', make it. 5.

Hole 12 (375 par 4). Good drive to right side of fairway. 5i pulled just a bit, six inches into rough left of green. Putter to 3', make it. 4.

Hole 13 (160 par 3). Awful blocked 5 iron into trees on right, ricochets down in front of green. Left myself the same chip I had on 10, this time it checks up 20' short. Lag to 2', miss (ball was in a hole and I didn't notice it). 5.

Hole 14 (460 par 5). Excellent drive left center. Bunt 3h to 80 yards, left rough. PW to 8 feet, putt just slides by the low side. 5.

Hole 15 (550 par 5). Excellent drive right center. 3h to 145. Push 6i to back right quadrant, pin is left front, leaving a 30' severely downhill putt with 8+ feet of break. Lag to 8 inches (!), tap in. 5.

Hole 16 (175 par 3). Knock down 3h to 8'. Evil pin placement. Big breaking uphill putt struck beautifully, just slides across the front of the hole. Tap in. 3.

Hole 17 (415 par 4). Very good drive right center. 4i to 5 feet. Miss. $%^&!. Tap in. 4.

Hole 18 (420 par 4). Draw drive, shot calls for a big fade, ends up well into trees. Good punch out to 150. 6i fades a bit and misses just off green pin high right. Chip not hard enough to 8', miss. 6.

42 (par 37), 79 total.

Here is my 76 (maybe 75 pending rules decision) today, course 74.7/143.

1: 437 par 4: Driver a little left, catches fairway bunker. ~150 left, have to hit 8 iron to get it over lip. A bit short. 35 foot putt from 5 yards off front to 2 feet, tap in par.
2: 451 par 4: Came out of driver, hit it crappy right, behind tree. Really nice layup caught a terrible lie in rough left, ~90 yards away. Hacked it out pin high to 40 feet. Center cut drain-o par.
3: 200 par 3: 3 iron left it out right, terrible kick/break. Ball is in a stupid hole up against a wall of dirt. No shot. Swing as hard as I can, hack it 10 yards forward. Next chip was tough, hit a really nice one to 6 feet, made it for bogey. Dropped from the hole (rules decision) and hit a ridiculously impossible chip to 1 inch and tapped in for par with that ball.
4: 400 par 4: Another crappy drive I came out of and missed right. (water left). Hit a so so shot through some trees into front bunker. Left it 15 feet short, left putt center cut 1 foot short. tap in bogey.
5: 431 par 4: Hammered my first good drive into the wind. Still had 220 left. Hit a terrible crappy duck hooked 3 wood like 60 yards short. Worse lie than I thought, wedge came up short on the fringe. Made ~80 footer from off the green for par.
6: 672 par 5: Hammered Drive. Hammered 3 wood. Good 9 iron came up short. Crappy putt came up 5 feet short, made it for par.
7: 150 par 3: GREEN HIT. playing ~160. Perfect 6 iron 20 feet hole high left, made it for birdie.
8: 370 par 4: Played away from water hit crappy drive into trees left. Punch shot hits tree and comes back at my feet basically. 2nd punchout sucks. Nice chip to 7 feet, miss. Double bogey.
9: 390 par 4: Nice drive down the left, takes terrible kick into the rough. Hole plays uphill, pulled a 3 iron from 160. Lie was godawful. Ball went approximately 25 yards into the fairway. Pulled an awful 9 iron. Nice chip to 6 feet from weird lie. Made putt.
Please note: (10 putts on the front 9.) +4 39.

10: 451 par 4: Hammered drive down middle to 180. Wind picked up in my face, killed a 3 iron pin high left. Putt from 30 feet to 2 feet, tap in par.
11: 542 par 5: Drive barely hangs on down the right side (creek). Needed to fade a layup 3 iron, hit it dead straight into the trees and towards OB. Looked for it for a while, couldn't find it thought it was OB. Turned out you could hardly see it in th erough. Was maybe another rules question situation, but I had no shot anyway, so I just hacked it into fairway. Crappy wedge from 80 yards to 30 feet. Crappy horrible misread putt to 8 feet. Made for bogey.
12: 170 par 3: Pin in the back, into the wind. 3 iron to 7 feet. drained it birdie.
13: 440 par 4: Came out of driver, hit it right, left it on downhill lie ~220. Mashed a ridiculous 5 wood just short of green. Putt too hard 6 feet past. Comebacker straight downhill, scared putt missed/bogey.
14: 390 par 4: Nice drive to 100. Gap wedge inexplicably hits pinhigh rolls up hill for 40 feet. 3 putted from tough spot, no good putt though. bogey.
15: 238 par 3: Sweet 3 wood to 20 feet. Clutch. Putt almost in, runs 5 feet by. Pull tentative putt. Unclutch. Bogey.
16: 315 par 4: Choke driver should've been in a worse spot, rough helped it. 80 yards left. Lands 5 feet left of pin, inexplicably rolls uphill, leaves impossible 15 footer that I putted like a 1 footer. Made it.
17: 540 par 5: Killed Driver. +6 here, trying to break 80, so I layup instead of hit a 3 wood into 50 yard bunker. 115 left, totally choke on the pitching wedge. Ball in bad lie in rough pin high right. Hack it out of rough to 10 feet. Clutch putt drained it.
18: 343 par 4: Pulled drive left, but hit it pretty hard. In stupid donga left. Hole really plays like 390. Worried about hitting lip w/7 iron, swing felt great, no idea where it went. Perfect over the ridge (tough tough pin) to like 25 feet right. Made it center cut for the 75/76.

If anyone actually read all of that above, here is the rules question I was referring to:

Uploaded with ImageShack.us

The ball is in a hole and up against a wall of dirt.

An “abnormal ground condition” is any casual water, ground under repair or hole, cast or runway on the course made by a burrowing animal, a reptile or a bird. I was unable to determine what type of animal made this hole, or if it was an animal at all. It could have been a dog. It might have been a German Shepard though, which is not a dog that burrows. It might have also been a Labrador, which is a dog some say burrows. Does a possum burrow? I've seen turles around. I'm not sure here.

havent posted much so far this season, mostly cuz i havent played much, only a handful of times and when i did play it was nothing i wanted to talk about...yesterday started the same way, went out and shot a 55 on the front, as we made the turn i told my brother" this is the last 9 holes im playing this year"...

back 9 started the same, lost a drive ob on 10, somehow saved bogie, on 11 i made a triple when i hit my approach 15 yards past the green into the water chipped on after dropping n 3 putted...the out of no where the rest of my round went ,bogie, bogie, birdie, par, par, par, par, ...........never had a string of holes like that in my life ( usually shoot around 100) ...on 18 i had a 20 footer for birdie and to give me a 39 on the back that i hit on a perfect line but with a little too much pace n it hit the back of the cup n popped out landing right next to the hole, i tapped in for par and 40. a 39 would have been nice, but still 40 is the best 9 ive ever shotten by 2 or 3 strokes so it still felt good..

its just so crazy how the front 9 i cant hit a drive, approch, chip, or put and then i make the turn n its like a different person playing golf..i honestly dont understand it, but nevertheless it was a hell of a day...

needless to say im going back to the same course today to play 18..ill report back after round

I would be dropping this out, I'm not sure on the rules but even if it is not a rule this could cause some kind of injury. I'm guessing though the way you have the camera is the way you would be looking down at the ball assuming your right handed as well, so there isn't a chance you would be standing on the path?

42 (par 35). No birdies, no doubles. 5/6 fairways, 1/9 greens (+ 4 fringes), 16 putts.

Played with a set I cobbled together from the basement and trunk (didn't have my clubs available). 4w, 2i, 5i, 37 and 42 degree niblicks, putter.

Spent most of the round wondering why I don't have the 4w in my bag. It was money. I hit the longest par 4 on the nine (playing 430) with 4w, 4w for a routine par. Putting really sucked.

Unfortunately with my "intended line of play", I was not on the path. If I was Sergio Garcia in the Ryder Cup and I "intended" to play the ball 45 feet right of the pin, then I would've been on the path.

I would play out of that hole. It just looks like a natural sinkhole or it was eroded by water or something.

Played 36 holes this morning with a friend because he always wanted to play two rounds in one day. Shot a miserable 101 on the first 18, then caught fire on the second 18 and shot an 87. First time I ever broke 90. I'm exhausted, but very glad I went for it.

43-41-84. 1 birdie, 2 doubles. 5/13 fairways, 5/18 greens, 32 putts. It was hot as balls and I couldn't do much of anything right.

#1 par 4, 380 yards: Driver hooked into trees, punch out to 125 yards, 8 iron comes up just short, way way way short with putter -- they hadn't mowed the green yet and it was wet, of course I picked today to practice on the putting green, miss from 8 feet, tap in. 6. Splendid.

#2 (3, 135): Line drive 7 iron over the back, pitch checks up, miss from 5 feet, tap in. 4.

#3 (5, 540): Solid drive just into left rough. 3h to 135, push 7i just short and right. 8i chip doesn't run out enough, miss from 8 feet, tap in. 6.

#4 (4, 360): Drive with a bit of draw hits in fairway and kicks dead left into trees, lucky it didn't go OB. Punch 3h through the trees onto the green to 5 feet, make it. 3.

#5 (3, 165): Awful 5i flares right up against a tree. Careful pitch gets me on but 25' away, lag to 2', make it. 4.

#6 (4, 430): Bad drive pushed way right into trees. Driver off good lie too hard, runs through fairway into left woods up against a tree. Chip out left handed, wedge from 80 to 10 feet, miss, tap in. 6.

#7 (4, 385): Bad drive blocked into waste area on right. Punch out with 3h to 130. 8i to 20 feet, 2 putts. 5.

#8 (3, 150): 6i just short on fringe 25' away. Putter to 4', bad miss, tap in. 4.

#9 (5, 465): Solid drive catches limbs on right, ends up in fairway. 9i for position to 135, 7i to 12 feet, miss low, tap in for 5.

43 (par 35). Splendid.

#10 (4, 385): OK drive rolls thru fairway into bunker. Half-topped 3h to 75 yards, wedge to 10 feet, miss, tap in. 5.

#11 (5, 475): Good drive in fairway. 7i for position barely makes it. Awful 8i chunked 20 yards short. Pitch to 8', miss, tap in. 6.

#12 (4, 390): Push drive into trees, don't find it. Provisional to left rough, 4i from 160 to 2 feet, make it. 5.

#13 (3, 155): 5i to 20', lag to 2', make it. 3.

#14 (5, 460): Push drive into left rough. Have to snake a shot through a gap to get at the green, push a driver about six inches too far right, hit a tree and it ricochets 80 yards across the next fairway. 7i up over the trees comes up just short, pitch off the pine straw to 9', make it. 5. LOL'd.

#15 (5, 540): Very good drive in center. 3h to 135. 7i to 6', miss sidehill slider, tap in. 5.

#16 (3, 180): Push 3h, hits tree, kicks back to fairway. Pitch to 12', putt comes up just short. 4.

#17 (4, 415): Good drive in right center. 3h from 190 just off green to the left, pitch to 4 feet, make it. 4

#18 (4, 420): Perfect drive in center, beautiful high 3h from 195 to 12', putt weak and right, make 3'er for 4.

41 (par 37), 84 total.

After the round I went and got a couple putters regripped. It's pretty funny that I've played forever and it never really occurred to me that I might be using a putter that's too *long* -- I'm 6'7" and have always assumed that 35" is the bare minimum that I should be using and I've experimented with lengths up to 40". The other day I decided to pull out an old bullseye I bought off eBay and never used, it's pretty short. It's felt pretty comfortable. While waiting for regripping I putted with a couple 33" models, I think I'm going to have to pick something up in that length.

Shot a 97 from the tips at this place...

http://www.gilletteridgegolf.com/the...scorecard.html

Scorecard is currently different, but played just as tough, if not harder... The guy we played with wanted to play from there so I did as well... He shot around 80

Wasn't that upset cause normally I play 82-88ish from the Blue/White tees

Only thing that sucks is the wife dropped an 84 to kick my ass...

45-45-90 (par-70)

5/14 fairways, 3 GIR, 13 GIR+1, 33 putts, 0 bunker shots, 1 penalty
7 pars, 7 bogies, 1 double, 2 triples, 1 quintuple

New PB at my home course, although I must confess two things to the rules nits: first, I took a 1st ball mulligan, as I sometimes do. Then, on the 2nd hole, I pulled my drive into the trees along the left. I heard it bounce off a tree but couldn't see exactly where it was. As I'm walking up to find it a guy playing the adjacent hole goes to play a ball. I thought about yelling at him to check the ball, but didn't, since I assume most people can figure out if they're playing the correct ball. As I'm walking around I can't find my ball, though I do eventually find a different ball (which, BTW, looked nothing like the ball I was playing). I can't see my first one, so I just decide to assume that the guy played my ball. Yes, technically this is against the rules, but whatever. Ended up with a bogey on that hole.

Anyway, I was pretty pleased considering that I hadn't used my own clubs in more than six weeks and I didn't even go to the range or chip/putt before the round. Driver was a pretty consistent fade for the most part, although I struggled a bit with it later in the round. Long/mid-irons weren't great, but full wedge shots were pretty decent. Short game was key. Hit a ton of nice LW flop shots around the greens. Putting was probably slightly better than average. Didn't have any spectacular shots or holes aside from one 20-yard pitch that missed going in by inches. Just played pretty solid all around and made lots of pars and bogies, mostly due to pitching/chipping well. Only three real blow-up holes, two of which were #14 and #15. And then I came back with three straight pars to finish the round.

After the lost ball on #2 I'd probably have felt a little bad about calling this a sub-90 round if I'd have shot an 89, so I guess it's just as well I ended up with 90 on the nose. I'm really pleased to play that well after a long lay-off. Hopefully I can break 90 before summer ends.

shot a boring 73 at Aguila muni here in phoenix right before the rain hit on fourth of July. Probably should have shot under par but missed 3 putts in the 2-3 foot range that hurt me.

Interesting part of the round was:
1) my foursomes scores were literally 73,74,75,76 which I thought was pretty funny
2) my buddy who shot 74 had 4 pars, 6 birdies and 8 bogeys...he's a long hitter but obv struggles on some of the holes. it's pretty damn hard to have 6 birdies and not shoot par or under especially on this municipal course

stopped keeping score today i was so bad.....

it's been very very wet here and there are no grass teed driving ranges near here anyway. so haven't been able to practice irons properly in a long time. practicing my driver alot.

so this happens:

great driving. almost an excellent drive every single hole... but i can't hit my irons at all. can't seem to even make solid contact. too flat a swing plane having practiced driver exclusively. my stiff clubs got stolen. playing with regular clubs. seem way too whippy but you'd think i could at least make solid contact.

putting now pretty poor too. again, my putter was stolen.

driving and gap thru 60 degree wedge very good (thinking specialty wedges have very stiff shafts??)

just need to somehow get my irons going again. looking at adams cb2 and cb3 stiff shaft. was hitting them very well at simulator (but i hit my irons well at range when i've done that)

sorry that was so long.......... basically i can't hit my irons at all any more.

bonds, hope this doesn't come off too rude, but you seem to shoot a lot of low 80s type scores, I would guess your handicap is between 8 and 11, your short game seems pretty tidy from your round recaps, and yet you are 6' 7" and seem to hit the ball shockingly short (I am a similar handicap and I would say average length and I am probably 3 clubs longer than you). Basically, what's up with that? Seems like you could be pretty damn good at this game if you added some length.
