I think that was a bizarro way of saying his handicap will be lower right before he uses it for something important.

If anyone in the NE ohio area is considering playing Emerald Woods in Columbia Station, don't! The course was in terrible shape. Hitting off the fairway was like playing in someone's backyard. Most (if not all) of the greens had sprinkler heads in the middle of them. The lack of cart paths or signs keeps you guessing about where the next hole might be. One or more of the tee boxes had turf instead of grass.

Ugh. That was Monday's nine holes (54).

Today was more fun. Meadowood in Westlake was well kept and I had a good time. Greens were in great shape, especially for a cheap course. Shot 33-36-69. Yeah it was par 57, but so what??

Yeah your right 17 I'm off btw...but i'd rather win the major comp off a better handicap. I mean shooting what I did today doesn't really happen that often especially with my lol swing.

76 on par 71 6400. Solid round overall after performing maxes on squat and deadlift at the gym before. Walking the 18 killed me afterwards, feet and achilies are sore.

Course was considerably dry after 4 days of rain from a tropical storm. Greens were aerated recently, plenty of sand on them. I felt I struck the ball pure on every shot, due need to work on fine tuning accuracy off the tee and dailing in yardages a little better especially for a course designed by Donald Ross with small greens, protected well, and run off areas. Putt solidly and really stripped long irons and fairway woods today. Example on hole 8 is a 520 yrd par 5 into the wind with a canal that is 260 to carry. Hit 3 iron 6 iron 3 iron to 20 feet, tee shot rolled down the bank on the canal leaving a downhill second shot that I decided to chase a 6 iron down the fairway to 200 yards. Really love the course, can score well if you hit the fairway, but miss you are really penalized with numerous trees and crab grass rough which can be brutal and catches the club every time. Only complain is if you miss the greens the lies can be bare to 2-3 inches of thick rough where the ball will sit down due to being a public course and not prime condition.

42 (par 35). Super quick late evening nine. Hit some good shots, mostly drivers. Irons were a little clunky.

Oh barf. Played a course today I will never play again. Fairway..tiny bit of rough..and then 2 foot high grass that you could stand in and drop a ball and then not be able to find. So if you missed the fairway, you lost a ball. Crazy. I would rather have had water hazards so I at least didn't have to take a stroke and distance penalty. Brutal.

Played holes 11-17 with nothing bigger than a 7 iron, shot 3 over on those holes. Total ****show the rest of the round.

What was the rating/slope? Was it supposed to be like that? That sounds unreasonable even for a links course.

73.7/120.

it was comparable to British Open conditions without the giant wide fairways. Reviews online had a bunch of "never again" comments. i agree. i am ok with long grass, even punitive, but this was essentially having out of bounds on both sides of every hole.

Having to stop and waste time searching for a ball that just missed the fairway seems pretty terrible for amateur golf. Nothing wrong with a course trying to be different and present challenges but yeah that sounds obnoxious, especially if their reviews are that negative.

45 (par 37) but not the kind of score I would post because I hit extra shots when I felt like it. 1 birdie, 1 triple. I never saw my tee ball on the hole where I picked up the triple, made it a challenge to find it, never did. Experimenting with some different putters without much success, several 3 putts.

Sometimes it feels like I'm really close to putting it together, but that feeling never seems to last. I've been tinkering with my tempo (making it faster) and trying to add some more lag to get back some of the distance that I've lost. We'll see how it holds up this weekend.

Had my first ever hole in one on #2 at PB Dye Golf Course near Urbana, MD. 115 yard PW.

Didn't want to play today either because of the heat. Glad I was talked into it!

Not much to say... 2 tiered green, higher on the left than the right, which is where the pin was. Smooth pitching wedge landed on the slope about 15 feet from the hole and fed it in. No wind or anything, just HOT and humid. I'll add a picture of me next to the pin, but it doesn't do the slope justice.

Only problem was I got so excited and my heart was racing after I ran up the tee box slope like a moron celebrating and I got really hot as the round wore on. Hell I was already tired in the photo.

Bonds,

I notice you almost always seem to play nine holes. Any reason?

Had lesson Monday that went awful, terrible results... So went to range before round today and just hit a small bucket working on swing adjustment to some good results... I've always hit a "fade" and all of a sudden I'm hitting a draw that I didn't trust til more than half way through the round... Results were not good 51-53 for a 104 with 4 3 putts and some early sprays but playin same course tomorrow and feel confident in trusting my new swing

I work a lot of hours and the courses I've been playing aren't always available. In a normal week I play 9 on Tuesdays and Fridays in the evening, then 18 on Saturday and Sunday. This week was super nice so I played 9 each night, usually going out about 8:00 and finishing before it gets dark about 9:45. If I have time I play 2 or 3 extra holes but it's easier to track stuff when I just do it for 9. I'm going to be bummed when the days start getting shorter and I can't get in a late 9.

45-39-84 today. Don't feel like going back and calculating peripheral stats, I mostly played like ass. No birdies, lots of bogeys.

For people who shoot low to mid 80s, are your wasted strokes basically just missing the green and still 2-putting?

I imagine someone who shoots 84 might hit like 6 (or probably more) greens and say 2 putt them all then not get up and down from any of the 12 missed? Is that pretty accurate? With some leeway in that sometimes you will get up and down but then also sometimes you'll 3-putt a large GIR? Or have a couple 1 putts but then a couple wasted shots from under a tree or something.. etc.

I aspire to shoot 84 but I'm just wondering what your typical round looks like. Thanks

I'm a pretty high variance golfer, but here was today's 84:

Hole 1 (380 yard par 4, straight). Awful toed drive into trees on right. Punch out catches long wet rough and dies. 3h from 190 into front right bunker (this is a recurring theme). Blade sand shot over green. Mediocre chip to about 8 feet, 2 putts. 7.

Hole 2 (130 yard par 3). 6 iron proves to be too much club (pin back, into slight breeze). Chip from muddy lie behind green a bit too hard to 15 feet. Putt is in the center but short. Tap in 4.

Hole 3 (540 yard par 5, dogleg right on tee ball). Solid drive to right side of fairway. 3h to 145, in fairway. 6 iron finds front right bunker. Sand shot spins and dies 15 feet short. 2 putts. 6.

Hole 4 (360 yard par 4, straight). Slightly pushed drive to light rough on right. Second shot needs to be high to avoid trees, 7 iron to 5 feet. Putt burns edge. 4.

Hole 5 (170 yard par 3). Wind takes solid 3h into waste area left of green. Blade sand shot into super long wet gnarly crap. A mighty swing with the sand wedge gets it on the green to 30 feet, putt to 2 feet, tap in 5.

Hole 6 (420 yard par 4, straight). Block tee shot into crap on the right. Punch out to 125. 8 iron to 12 feet. Putt comes up short, tap in. 5.

Hole 7 (385 yard par 4, slight dogleg left). Solid drive just in rough on right. 6 iron to 25 feet pulled a bit, routine two putt. 4.

Hole 8 (155 yard par 3). 6 iron to 20 feet, routine two putt. 3.

Hole 9 (460 yard par 5, straight). Crunch drive but it hits over hanging limbs on right side. 3h actually slices off a hook lie to 150 but in trees. Punch out sideways. 7i into right front bunker. Blast to 12 feet. Miss putt, tap in. 7.

Front nine 45 (par 35). Wheeee.

Hole 10 (390 yard par 4, straight). Good drive to right side of fairway. Pull 6i into waste area on left. Sand shot to eight feet, miss putt. 5.

Hole 11 (480 yard par 5, dogleg right). Good drive to left side of fairway. 7i layup for position. 7i to 12 feet. Putt burns edge, tap in. 5.

Hole 12 (380 yard par 4, slight dogleg right). Good drive to left side of fairway. 6i just short of green (front pin). Putt from off the green to 2 feet, tap in. 4.

Hole 13 (160 yard par 3). 5i pin high just left of the green (short sided). 60 degree wedge pitch nearly goes in, settles 1 ft from cup, tap in. 3.

Hole 14 (460 yard par 5, straight). OK drive in light rough on right. Topped driver to 120. Catch 8i flush for once, over the green. Chip back on to 4 feet, make it. 5.

Hole 15 (530 yard par 5, straight). Push drive into trees on right. Chip out sideways. Smoke 3h to 150. 5i goes over the top of the flag, ends up 30 feet past. Very good lag to 2', tap in. 6.

Hole 16 (175 yard par 3). Awful 3i into front right bunker. Sand shot to 4 feet, make it. 3.

Hole 17 (415 yard par 4, straight). Very good drive in fairway. Knock down 3h from 170 ends up just off green on the right, pin high. Putt from off the green badly to 4 feet, make it. 4.

Hole 18 (420 yard par 4, dogleg right). Perfect drive in fairway. 3h from 190 fades about two yards, which is enough to put it in the front right bunker. Sand shot to 5 feet, make it. 4.

Back nine 39 (par 37). 84.

5/13 fairways, 5/18 greens, 30 putts. I would say that I probably average 6-7 fairways, 8-9 greens and about 33 putts. I waste a lot of shots around the green and when I have a bad ball striking day like today there are usually a couple punch outs. I don't get hit with many penalty strokes, usually hit one OB every 3 or 4 rounds, water maybe 1 out of 5 rounds. Sand game is D- at best, I blade too many. Other chipping is below average but improves when I play a lot.

Wow thanks for the breakdown. Seems like you blade some bunker shots but when you hit them right you are left with easy saves. Also you sound pretty accurate with a 6 to 8 iron on your approaches so you are hitting more greens when you are left with a reasonable shot than I would have guessed. Like you said you get into more "fluky" trouble like having to punch out from the trees or blading a sand shot. Sounds like when you hit it right you hit is pretty good though.

45+??? for 36 stableford

It was windy and I rushed on to the tee with less of a warm up then I would have liked. I knew I was doing something wrong during my set up but managed to get the ball round ok until it all fell apart on the twelfth and thirteenth. On the fourteenth I sorted my set up out and hit the ball much better. I was two points down on the eighteenth tee needing something special. I managed a bogey but my opponent blew up and picked up so we drew.

1 Birdie, 5 Pars, 6 Bogeys, 3 Doubles, 3 Worse

3/12 FIR, 6 GIR, 39 Putts from 17 holes inc from off the green.
