Bogeyed 7 of first 8 holes and ended up shooting 78.

Interesting fact: If I shoot an 82 every time out, I'm a 5.8 handicap. A 78 is a 2.6.

48-47 - 95

Second best round if my life, easily could have been mid 80s.. 3 penalty strokes for awful tee shots and 4 3 putts along with 2-3 putts inches short

I don't think I've ever struck the ball as well as I did this round , when I shot a 90 my putting was on fire but this was just consistently off the tee along with a solid short game..

I only had 1 god awful swing and I was trying to muscle up an 8 iron up and around a tree as my 7 iron needs to be reshafted due to a club throwing incident

Buddy I was playing with I play with a lot and he is a 10 cap right now though been better before and he said its best he has seen me play and referenced how quiet my hands were all day

Yesterday I shot a score too high to mention. But it was at the Old Course. And I sank a 20-footer on #18 and got some applause from some of the onlooking crowd.

Also played all of the other St. Andrews Links courses. Weather was terrible Friday and Saturday, but pretty good Sunday and Monday. Only scores even remotely worth mentioning were a 51 on the front nine of Eden (but I had to stop because I could barely feel my right hand), a 105 on the Castle (absolutely stunning, incredible course), and 41-40 on two trips around the par-30 Balgove.

I forgot you were going over there. Was wondering why you hadn't posted a score since the kids got out. Now I remember your thread about taking clubs over to Scotland... durr.

That's awesome on #18, you'll remember that forever. Are you gonna load these into oob?

Probably going to wait until I get home in July. I'm pretty sure I saved all the scorecards, it's just too much of a chore to load them in on an iPod. (I guess I could use the oobgolf app, but even then I think I'll leave it until later.)

Ok I'm not sure if I'm allowed to make a new thread about golf prop bets but I'm interested in doing a wager with some friends.

I've been golfing on a real course a total of one time for part of a bachelor party thing in Florida. I finished 6 holes before calling it quits and going to the club house. I've been to the driving range maybe 5 times - probably hit less than 200 balls total.

What is the over/under on strokes for someone like me at a par 3 course (I guess there's 3 or 4 par 4s) for 9 holes?

Man I never noticed a Golf forum... <slaps forehead> shot a ok round yesterday. Pars 72 from the tips, 39/front 35 back. Hit all but 3 greens in reg, all but 2 fairways and putted well with 3 birdies throughout the round.

Well how well did you do? I'm assuming badly but you never actually said what you shot. If you are "really bad", and the par of that course is 30 you'll probably shoot about 60 or worse. Depends on if those par 4s have out of bounds hazards or if there is a lot of water on the course and how good of a putter you are matters a lot but I think you'd be good to triple bogey every hole. 65 might even be a good number.

Par 3s are not easy at all to par. If you never play you will pretty much be lucky to pick the correct club within 1 (if you need a 7i you'd be lucky to pull out the 6i or 8i). So your distance will be really bad, especially if there is wind. You probably won't hit 1 green all day. And pitching and chipping from uneven lies next to a green is hard for beginners. Your basic hole will probably be miss the green by 20 yards. Hit a bad pitch shot or duff one and still be off the green. Or skull and be on the other side of the green. Then hit your third on the green but nowhere near the hole then lag to 10 feet then not come close to sinking the double bogey putt then make a solid putt for triple.

I would suggest going to the range and figuring out what club you hit most consistently, practice with it and hit the one off every tee regardless of distance (assuming most par 3s will be between 130-180 ... Just getting it out there consistently will probably be your biggest obstacle to start.. After that I would likely putt or chip with a 7 in most other cases so you can keep it low and under control

41 (par 35). Pretty standard round. Hit a couple decent shots, so there's hope.

40-47 for a frustrating round today.

Was even on the back, 5 over through 12, sitting 130 yards out on a par 5 after 2 shots and took a double and then all kinds of dumb **** happpened and limped home 11 over on the back, 16 over total.

First round since tearing my ACL and meniscus in December (while golfing, believe it or not). Talk about ugly. 48-50 for a smooth 98. I guess the short game is the hardest thing to get back, because I was awful around and on the greens.

It is a little hard to swallow the fact that I shot a better round WITH a shredded knee than I did after I got fixed up. (I was injured on my third hole at Chambers Bay but limped to the finish.)

I would have thought the long shots where there is a ton of weight transition and torque would be the bigger issue.. Short game is touch and is definitely my struggle beginning if every season but I've had more issues with hand injuries then lower body for short game...

I did something to my ankle in softball yesterday ( think sprained a ligament) and super worried about weight transition going into weekend, took some cuts with a wedge on my apartment right after to immediately test it and i can see its going to be trouble

I think those longer shots feel fine because my knee is healed (for the most part). I'm sure my short game problems have been caused entirely by the six-month layoff, rather than the injury.

Sorry to hear about the ankle. Might be worth taking the weekend off ...

Im already giving up a double header tonight and it's a "major" for my golf league so it's unlikely.. I'll be resting it today and tomorrow and I'll take some practice swings each day as a test and to see if a slight foot placement variation will help... The main issue is pushing off from it and being my front foot it just need to bear the weight more so at the end so I'll be tentative but once I get used to it I think it'll be bearable

Played a weird 9 today shot 51. My ball-striking is as good as it's ever been but today my short game was one of the worst rounds it's ever been. And not entirely due to form, I just left myself with tough chips from just off the greens all day. But yeah my form was also AIDS-infested.

51
2/7 FIR
0/9 GIR
1 penalty stroke
4 bogeys
4 doubles
1 triple

So frustrating... to put in perspective, here is my stroke breakdown:

Full swing strokes
Driver: 7 (6 drives, add +1 stroke for a barely oob)
2i: 1
6i: 6
7i: 1
8i: 1
PW: 2
SW: 1 Total 19 strokes

Partial-swing strokes+chips

Lob wedges: 6

Putts from off the green
P: 5

Putts from on the green
P: 21

Hopefully that makes apparent the huge disparity in my long game vs. short game today. Yeah my FIR # is low but they were all playable and wrt 0/9 GIR... everything was either a little long, a little short, or left. 2 long, 5 short, 1 left. The other was actually a GIR if not for the penalty stroke. So I just couldn't hit the green but my ball strikes were all very good which is promising for me. The two greens I missed long were perplexing. One was a par 3 at 143 which should be a 9i for me. Well there was strong wind in my face that I felt was 2-3 club wind so I debated taking a 7i or even a 6i. I figured I'd opt for the 6i since it will be a bit lower and better to take more club than less. So I pure it and I knew right after contact the green wasn't gonna hold it. It landed a few yards from the back of the green and went over. Uggg.

The other green I went long on was a good hole to explain the entire round for me. Par 5 I hit a solid drive in the middle of the fairway. I hit a 6i perfect and it settles way up there in the FW. I'm 128 out so I grab my Pitching Wedge and hit it up toward the flag and it lands behind the flag then rolls off the green. Had a little draw to it and it just hit and rolled. So I was about 6 yards off the green downhill and hit a chip shot that settles just short of the green and in the short grass. Awesome. Lying 4 now. Grab my putter and putt through the fringe was short like 6 feet short leaving a left-to-right putt. Now I'm putting for bogey and I hit it like 5 feet past and of course miss the comebacker. Triple bogey on a par 5 I'm hitting a PW into from the middle of the fairway. That was the worst hole but that sums up how poorly things went around the green. One of the greens I was short of was a 170 yard par 3 I ripped a 6i totally straight and it landed a few feet short of the green and just sat there. I bogeyed it. That hole is impossible to hit from the tee. I've never seen anyone do it.

Anyway I'm not going to dwell on it and will instead make it a goal to shoot low enough in my next 9 to get this round in my HC calc. I was walking with about a 12 HC and I was beating him tee to green pretty noticeably, then he wiped the floor with me once we got around the green. lol.

That's some rough short game/ putting .. Figure should chip/pitch, 2 putt after that at worse so 27 strikes max over 27 holes meaning you leaked 5 definite strokes off the mean .. Well at least for what my goal is..

And 21 putts is a ton there, I'd say 15 is my target and anything over 18 I want to kill someone

I know man it was brutal. 21 putts but add 5 to that from just off the green and 26 is a more accurate number.

Basically on every hole I was near the green in 2 (near enough to only need a partial lob wedge shot at most). But my average score was 5.67 which means I was near in 2 and then took 3.67 (each hole) to hole out. YIKES. lol. Good news is it was only a net +1 so with a good 9 next time out I can actually salvage this round for my HC. Was supposed to play 18 but my wife showed up and wanted to go eat Mexican food. I'm not walking 9 in 90+ heat after I sat in A/C for an hour and ate mexican food. lol.

I even practiced short game before I teed off today and everything was good.

I've posted about it before, but once I watched the Mickelson DVD and started practicing the hinge and hold my short game has improved a ton... But my I had no set short game until then

Even his putting stuff helped me immensely

Played 18 the other day but was not the normal golf outing. We were propping on the match and were only allowed to choose 2 clubs from the bag to use at any time. Ended up going with driver and 9 iron and putted with the driver using it like a hockey stick. Also was able to use driver from the middle of the fairway on the long par 5s, was surprised how well I hit it from those spots...Just curious what other people would choose in this spot.

Ended up shooting a 95 on a 70, my friend shot a 91 and used driver/P wedge

95 on par 72 from 6500 yards. Lost 9 balls off the tee. Was trying to iron out the kinks in my driver to no avail.

Carded no higher than bogey on the 11 holes where my ball was still in play.

Gonna play without a driver until I fix the kinks
