39 (par 35). Missed two putts inside 4 feet and made a double off a bad bounce. Otherwise a good night. Really happy with the ballstriking.

44-49-93 today. Walked/carried bag from noon to 4pm today and it was about 95 out. (29HC) played great on front 9 then really lost a ton of energy and strength on the back 9 but still played better than usual for me. Didn't help that all I ate today before I went out were 4 Nutter Butters. Got some vending jerky and nuts (doesn't sound right) at the turn but still I was really weak and it showed. Drank plenty. Started getting lazy with my swings and all my approaches on the back were hit with the heel and all went left of green.

Opened up with 3 GIR in a row and was +1 (lol).

36 putts
2/14 FIR (drove poorly)
6/18 GIR (career best)
1 penalty
0 sand

5 pars
7 bogeys
4 doubles
2 triples

Best shot was a 5I from 183 in the right rough that somehow plopped on the green 24' from the hole. Greens were soft but also my ball flight was also about as high as my 9I normally is. Don't know how I hit this 5I that good. Honestly it's my "180" club so I should have used the 4I here but I hit the 5 noticeably better so I said I'd rather be just short of the green and get up and down than pin high, 20 yards right of it. This saved me par after my driver went right and hit a tree solidly and settled only 193 out.

I putted much better than normal. Since I hit greens today my first putt distances were pretty far. For the first time today I lined up my ball with the stripe before I putted. It seemed to help as once I got over the ball all I cared about was force. I never thought it mattered to use the line on the ball to lag but I noticed it really freed me up. I lined up everything even 2 footers (only 5 people were on the course all day). It helped even on those short putts, so I look forward to lining everything up from now on (assuming pace of play isn't an issue).

My 6 GIRs were hit with SW, 9i, 9i, 9i, 8i, 5i.

Front nine splits:
44
19 putts
2/7 FIR
5/9 GIR
0 penalty

Back 9 splits:
49
17 putts
0/7 FIR
1/9 GIR

Shows how I really wore down on the back... anyway.

Best thing about today was I had a 20 differential coming off the books so I calculated before the round that I needed to shoot a 94 or better for my HC not to hit 30 again. My best round there was 94 (93 ESC) and was a few weeks ago so I knew it was doable but would not be easy. So I ended up shooting 93 and my HC is at 29.9 now but will be trending downward. I just updated it on this site since I think it's a good peak point right now.

And only 1 of my next 7 rounds has to come off the books. 9 of 13 recent are HC rounds. 4 of my last 5 rounds are differentials of 25.3, 26.3, 26.3, and 32.4 which are nets -1, -6, -7, -8. I know last year I played better when it got really hot. Hopefully I can get it down in the low or mid 20s by the end of summer.

36-41-77. No birdies, 1 double. 6/13 fairways, 12/18 greens, 34 putts.

Zipped around solo in just under two hours after the ladies league cleared the course. Ball striking wasn't quite as crisp as yesterday and the putting was poor. Results were good though. Dumped it in the bunker on 1 and made bogey. Eight routine pars. Bad double on 10 - blocked drive swatted down by trees, punch out, dumped five iron in the bunker, didn't get up and down. Five pars. Blocked iron on par 3 16th, pitched 3.5 feet past and missed. Hooked one on 17, punch out, routine bogey. Par on 18.

I had a couple really good putting rounds recently but I haven't been able to find a consistent stroke. It feels like I'm close, that I just need to make a tiny adjustment of some kind, but I haven't gotten it.

37 (par 35). 1 eagle, 1 double. 2/6 fairways, 6/9 greens, 14 putts.

First time in at least 20 years I've eagled the third hole. 540 yard par 5, not reachable for me in two shots. Solid drive with a couple yards of fade (perfect) in the middle of the fairway, 4 iron just inside the 150 pole also in the middle, 6 iron hit a foot short of the pin and rolled in. Wheeeee.

Of course I followed it with a double on #4, but let's not mention that...

45 (+9) with 21 putts. 2/7 fairways, 4/9 GIR. Driver was piss poor, everything else was pretty good.

My main problem was that I just kept leaving myself ridiculous putts thanks mostly to staying away from the very difficult pin positions. I had four putts longer than 30 feet. One was a 40-footer that must have been three feet uphill, one of those putts you just can't hit hard enough (ended up three-putting). I hit the first green in regulation but four-putted, left everything brutally short.

38 (par 35). 1 birdie, no doubles. 3/6 fairways, 5/9 greens, 16 putts. Sprayed it a bit but didn't pay too dearly. Made a couple 4 footers for pars.

39 (par 35). Tree-lined, target golf course. 1 birdie, 6 pars, 1 bogey, 2 doubles. Bogey + doubles caused by wayward drives (lost balls into the woods, so re-tee). Very poor driving, good irons, and good short game -- basically, the complete opposite of what I usually do. Driving is usually the strong part.

Highlight of the day: Getting free lunch from partner when I made a 90-ft putt while we were practice putting on the 6th green -- first try.

40-43-83. 1 birdie, 4 doubles. Played a different course (71/127) and didn't track stats. Wasn't happy with any part of my game.

Had a 102 fever on Fri Night. Toughed it out and played yesterday morning in my two man event.

Pretty interesting format -- 1st 9 is match play scramble, 2nd 9 is match play combined shamble (both hit tee balls, select best shot, play own ball in).

3rd 9 today is match play alt shot and 4th 9 is combined match play

I shot a 45-47-92 yesterday at Arcadia Bluffs. It's a great course; very challenging, and very beautiful.

Highlights: I chipped in a birdie from ~65y over a 10ft+ bunker wall. The following hole I stuck one ~8in away from the pin from 120y. Hit most fairways and irons were accurate.

Lowlights: My putting game was BRUTAL. The greens were tricky and extremely fast. A few times I was relieved to escape with a 3 putt!

83, shooting even on the back 9. Lob wedge was on fire on the back side. Got up and down 5 times within tap in range. I'll take it after not picking up a club for a few months.

Play like 5 or 6 holes @ Hermann Park in Houston and pretty much played bogey golf. Experimented with the long left thumb and short/medium left thumb. Seemed to get better contact with longer thumb but not totally comfortable with that 100% yet.

I videoed myself with my phone and saw I am still get way inside on the backswing.

I made what I thought was a good conscious effort to keep the club outside but am still getting too inside. Long story short, I think my new thought is push the left hand straight back and bend the right wrist as I turn in the backswing. This seems to put me on plane very good in my mirror. Someone please tell me if this works for you because I will probably be adopting this permanently. It's amazing I have to force myself to keep the club that much out in front of me. There is NO substitute for video study of your swing. Why waste time doing something bad.

Damn I went to play today b/c it was all cloudy and thus a break from the heat and I planned on playing through the rain if it happened since it doesn't bother me much but I got there and it started with torrential rainfall so I sat in my car for 10 minutes and waited for it to slow up but it was just awful and the course started ponding already and then I heard thunder so I just took off. Golf blueballs. May try to play tomorrow but then I want to watch the beginning of the US Open. Don't want to play Friday though as that's when it's crowded.

41 (par 35). No birdies, no doubles. 2/6 fairways, 3/9 greens, 18 putts. If I hit green, I made par. Missed green, bogey.

Even hit a bag of range balls beforehand, hoping to find a swing. A couple encouraging shots right at the end, maybe I can compress an iron. Maybe. Short game sucks.

48-48-96

5 par
6 bogey
3 doubles
4 triples
34 putts
2 penalty strokes

3/14 fairway
4/18 GIR

Last 6 rounds I've got nets of -1, -5, -6, -7, -8

I really think breaking 90 is just around the corner. I still threw away so many shots today even for me. Haven't played in a while and I wasn't committing to my partial lob wedge pitch shots for some reason. Also chunked a couple for some reason which I'm not worried about as it never really happens. Missed a few putts inside 6 feet or so. Made an 8 footer but that's it. Lagged really well today especially from off the green which is a great sign since that has always been my biggest leak.

Drove the ball better today after making a minor adjustment. Hit some very good shots for me which is a good sign. Only shot in the 90s twice last year and now 5 of last 6 rounds sub-100.

Best shot of the day was on a par 5 that I was lying 4 with 180+ yards out. Greenside bunker covering left half of the window to the green. I normally hit a fade with these irons (5i) so I aimed barely over the bunker and hoped it would fade and run up barely onto front of green and try to 2 putt for double. I had no chance for a 1-putt as the pin was behind the bunker so I figured my ball would peel off and end up short and right of the flag by at least 30 feet. I pured it but unfortunately it was dead straight and heading just barely over the bunker, I thought I was ****ed and it would plug but it landed just over and rolled up onto the green near the flag. I got up and ball was pin high 4 feet right of hole. Ball mark was 1 yard onto the green which was about 3 yards past the bunker. Made the putt for bogey. All it takes is a shot like that and the 30 handicappers will keep coming out. lol.

Playing an event this weekend. 9 holes of alternate shot today, +4 with three putts that were one rotation short. 9 holes of 2 man scramble, -2 with a disappointing bogey on the last.

Did hit a great 40 yard bunker shot to six inches, otherwise game was mediocre.

44+45=89 for 36 Stableford points

Around west mid a tougher course then Brent Valley. Not enough to win I lost by one point. A very acrimonious round because two of the guys fought and bickered over a lot of silly little things, whether we should let the group behind through, whether you got relief for drainage ditches in the rough. I though I did well to not let it affect me. I'm happy to brake 90 here for only the second time.

1 Birdie, 4 Pars, 7 Bogeys, 4 Doubles, 2 Worse
4/12 FIR, 1 GIR, 35 Putts

39/36 = 75

3 Birdies (1 chip in from 40 yards after making a mess of the hole)
10 Fairways
10 Girs
32 Putts

I have started to come out of a slump of playing the worst golf of my life; today's round was a huge boost to a very fragile confidence.

Second day of club event today. Played like total ass and could not get anything going. Did manage to scrape it around for a while on the back, making 4 pars and 2 bogeys (missed 2 footer, missed 4 footer), but then hit a 10 yard bunker shot 110 yards and made a quad.

Did that on the first hole, too. Caught a bunker shot pure and launched it a good hundred yards into the middle of the driving range. Those were the only two iron shots I flushed all day.

Played 9 this evening while dvring the Open. haven't played in about 10 days due to a family vacation. Rusty. Did manage to par 2 holes and hit a few fairways. But still struggling with my iron distances. 46, which just isn't where I want to be. Gah.
