Congrats GambleGamble

"Par 4 338yrds - Nice drive that leaks and lands in the bunker thats placed perfectly,

Par 4 368yds -Tough hole here for me since the entire right side is tree aside from a small opening on the right but If I hit it there I have to punch out anyways so I yank my driver

Par 4 390yds - MY NEMESIS HOLE - Ive mentioned it before, just hate it as there is so much trouble in my landing area if I dont hit it straight"

Ever thought about not taking the driver out of the bag when it brings trouble into play?

My driver is so inconsistent there is trouble on every hole...

what am I working on and actually have a question on is where is the optimum spot to line up in the tee box? I recently started lining up as far left as I can and aiming for the left most part and letting my natural stock driver (a high power fade) just work naturally but it's not working entirely so when I needed to keep it clean on the nemesis hole I lined up far right and aimed left at a 250 yd landing spot and watched it fade perfectly to the left/mid fairwway I had envinsioned so I think I may give this a go....

.....if I hit it straight I'll just miss to the left, same as if I hit the occasional draw, obviously I can't do this 100% of the time but at leas I am to the point I know what to expect a majority of the time.. I no longer just go straight with everything because I've learned my balls natural flight... For now

...and thanks guys, hopefully it wasn't a 1off round though I can't imagine my putting being as hot as it was yesterday

We play all over New England. My guy lives in Newport, RI.

I mentioned Newport because on July 4th we played in Goffstown, NH. My guy was in my foursome, which will never happen again. Newport is 130 miles from Goffstown, 2 hrs and 45 minutes drive without traffic. Our tee time was 9:28, we have to check in 45 minutes before tee time so at the latest he had to be on the road by 5:30am, on a holiday, to make the check in time from Newport. The tourney entrance fee was $165.

After my guy carded a triple on 1, he started to percolate, the double on 2 had him talking to himself, the drive on 3 had him questioning why he drove so far to play so bad, the hosel rocket second on 3 ended his day.

After the hosel rocket he walked back to the cart, beat the pulp out of his strapped in bag with his iron, then pulled it off the cart, beat it some more, picked it up and stormed back towards the parking lot on foot 100% more crazy and animated than the losers do on Big Break. We watched him when we got to the 3 green, he opened the trunk, overhand slammed his bag into it, jumped in the car, and ripped out of the lot.

Net/net for $165 plus gas money and probably a fast food breakfast, and a fast food lunch on the way home, he played 2 1/2 holes for 6 hours worth of driving.

My group has +/- 300 members, he is the only guy I've requested to never play with again.
Always wondered what happened to Brian Skatell. Glad things are working out for him.

not that it's the case for everyone, but I'm a ~5 handicap and am much, much more accurate & consistent with my driver than my fairway woods and almost always hit it. I assume many higher handicaps have the same thing going on.

Aside from the maniac thing, this kind of small peen complex tilts me to no end. Like one would actually believe the person being better than how he plays, as if him hating everyone of his shots, will make other people asume that all his shots are normally better.

32 Stableford around West Mid.
Should have recorded a score but picked up on the 8th after making a mess of it. 37(for 8) and 52.
Really thought I might brake ninety around here for the first time today after being one over after four.
Horrible decision to try and fight against the head wind on the eighth saw me pull hook the ball into the trees. I pitched out but then hit two terrible worm burning pulls in a row and gave up when I couldn't find my ball.
Also screwed up the easy 17th 495 yard par five. Just over a hundred yards to go after two shots I pull my approach into the trees guarding the river. Drop another hit the first cut off the green pin high and take four putts.
5 Pars (all on the front nine)
5 Bogeys
3 Doubles
3 Triples
2 Worse
2/12 FIR
3/18 GIR
38 Putts ( for 17 holes. 24 on the back nine )

Finally broke par at Sahalee, played South/North routing. 4 birdies 3 boggies. This course usually eats my lunch and I had never broken 75 there. If that was my home course I swear i'd be a 8 index and win net at every tourny I went to. Played there a couple weeks ago when the Players was going on, holy **** they had some tucked pins, subsequently shot 83.

Yeah I should have added that I am in Ohio! LOL.

On a serious note I should get back to frequenting this forum. I love golf but have had a strange year.

I had gout over the winter and it lasted into spring. It is awful and runs in my family. The pain in my toes and heel was crippling for weeks. I was unable to start playing until late spring and realized walking was too painful by the back nine. Then I has a setback and was out for two weeks.

So here we are near the end of July and I have only played 15 rounds this year - two of them walking.

The plus side is I am striking the ball very well. I made an adjustment to my grip and it is awesome. I have always had a problem "holding onto the club" into the follow through. All I have done this year is focus on holding the club as far into the fingertips of my right hand as possible. I am more relaxed than ever. As a result making a better turn than I ever have and the follow through is full and flowing. The increase in power is remarkable. All my playing partners are asking me where I am getting this power. I love golf.

End of story is I am taking a uric acid medication that is helping. Only had one little flare in my elbow that lasted less than one week. But still a riding only player for now.

I will try to get pictures/video of my grip and swing up before too long.

Current 'cap is 8.

This is your answer.

Years ago my brother had a driver he was hitting consistently. It would fade and roll out to the right. He kept losing his drives into the right rough.

He went to a pro for help and pro said: "tee it up on the right side of the tee, aim down the left and keep swinging the same."

44 (par 37). Bogeybogeybogeybogeybogey. Ball striking was very good, only hit one slightly wayward tee shot. Was generally on or fringe in regulation and couldn't get down in two. No touch at all with the putter.

I heard it as line up to the left of the tee box, aim straight and it should fade and stay on the right fairway but seriously the number of times I rolled out the last month or so got me thinking and I only tried it once but it should leave more room for error... Can't wait to go a full round this way... I'm sure I'll hit them dead nuts straight all day and ruin the theory

If you hit a consistent fade, definitely line up on the right side and aim slightly left. Assuming your mis-hits are slight fades or huge slices, this should give you the best chance to end up in the fairway.

If you're like me it's tougher as my mis-hits will be high slices or low liners that shoot 20 degrees left (not hooked - straight shots that just start left and stay left) and end up in trees. So it's a bit tougher.

Its quite annoying when you hit the crushed perfect straight drive and you are trying to play your natural shot...

I will play around with both, Ive already been doing the line up left and aim down the left side of the FW but not left of the FW.. I think both will work depending on the hole...

...like I mentioned knowing my stock shot now is the biggest help so far

Let's talk strategy...

I'm #1 seed going into my Club Championship Match Play tournament this weekend. I play the 16th seed player who shot 79-79 to take the last spot.

What type of strategies do you guys use entering a match against an opponent who you know very little about? Do I just aim for Fairways and Greens and grind him down with pars? Take shots at pins and try to end it early with some flag-hunting?

Just curious to hear people's strategies, particularly related to Match-Play format.

Seeing as you are supposed to be the much better player I would just play your game, he is going to be the one gunning for you trying to pin hunt and be perfect... like you said grind him down with par perfection and if your putter gets hot you should crush him.

Sounds like he will need to be hot and you below average to lose

Yeah

My buddy and I will square off in the semis if we both win the whole way thru. We're gonna wager that the other has to caddie for the winner. Should be a fun sweat.

Do you know anything about the guy other than his qualifying scores? Age, personality, etc?

Match play sounds fun, kinda like a boxing match. I assume he's going to be a bit intimidated by you and will be forcing shots. Probably less so if he's an older guy. Maybe just play conservative the first few holes and feel him out? See if he's panicking at all, see if it looks like he's going for shots he can't really pull off, etc. See what his demeanor is.

I really have no idea lol I've never played match play but I find it fascinating. Obviously more so the closer the players are in skill. Kinda like playing ABC poker against bad players... maybe that's all you need lol.

I had a match like this where I was the underdog - a 6 handicap vs. scratch. I think your best strategy is to ignore him early, get off to a good start and never let him feel like he belongs in a match with you. All while being friendly of course.

Match play blows. Just play like you always do unless you see them hacking around on a hole.

West Mid again, and again I fail to record a score.
I had a lesson just before I teed off. The Pro told me my timing would be out for a bit and I might top a few shots and he was right.
31 Stableford with 6 blobs.
3 birdies (1st,17th and 18th)
1 Par
5 Bogies
2 Doubles
6 Blobs
FIR 5/12
GIR 4/18
Putts 28 (for 14 holes )

40 on the same course as always.

Bad idea to golf any amount of holes today. I started off real good on the first two holes. Only double-par. The third hole, and I have never heard of this before, I tee off and my club hits something right before it reaches the ball. Someone had left their tee upright about 7 inches from my ball, right in my downswing. It didn't help that it was so humid and hot that I just dripped sweat the whole time.

I scrambled a lot today because it was also so windy. The ball was blowing all over the place. I'm totally happy though that I got to 40. I feel now as if I'm ready to rejoin my friends and not be an embarrassment compared to them. And it also seemed like I got better distance with my clubs than I have in the past. Which is great, considering I have no length at all (a good drive for me is 250).

Dunno too much other than his scores. I THINK I know who he is, but not 100% positive. If it's the guy I'm thinking he's a younger dude who decks himself out in Nike gear, lol. Kinda looks like Stewart Cink. obv relevant to the question.
