I think it's related to our changing expectations.

Now that I play much less, and my expectations are always fairly low, I don't see this happening.

So the key to better golf = lower expectations!

Hit 50yd sign on 2nd try. Cut it when I tried to cut it. Drew it when I tried to draw it. Hit it straight when I tried to hit it straight.

At least a month till real golf in MA.

Here is what I shot.....

6 handicap! Okay!

Details:

Obviously, I hit 2 greens. One was a 190 yard 5 wood into a 20mph wind to 20 feet (???)

and the other was a 4 iron to 10 feet. Perfect!!!

The fun thing is I hit 8/14 fairways and out of the 6 fairways I missed, 4 of them were still perfect and in the rough by a foot. Crushed them all too.

went to the golf course to get in 18 before 1 on a thursday morning at 9am.There were 14 people on the first tee box !!!

Only played 9. Shot 46. Still a 6 handicap!!

Actually kind of happy with the way things are coming around though. I practiced chipping for 40-45 minutes and I really improved there. Hybrids/fairway woods are still awful. I hit a real nice 4 iron over the green from 192 though.

Here is how it is where I live:

I will probably play in shorts today in a thunderstorm, and there will possibly be snow on the ground.

This coming Wednesday, the forecast calls for snow, and then it will be shorts next weekend, again.

Northwick Park par29 1804yards

Had a bucket of balls to warm up was hitting everything heavy.
Took my shaky swing on to the course and hit a week slice for 7 holes before realising that I had the ball nearer my right foot then the centre with my irons and just front of centre with the driver.
My good putting continued and I took no more the two on all holes I completed. I finished with a good shot and a par so at least I have one good memory.
1 par, 2 bogies, 5 doubles, 1 blob

Played another round under par today and thanks to a birdie, par, birdie finish I was able to post consecutive rounds under par. Today I played Meadowood and shot a 71 which began with a three putt bogey on the first hole.

6429 yards
Par 72
70.0/122

Treated father-in-law to a Monterey Peninsula golf week...

Pebble Beach (72.3/137) - 107 - started with bogey-par-bogey-par-bogey-par (on #6, yippee!)-bogey then blew up losing a ball in the chasm on #8 (went on to score an 8)... then unforced errors all over back 9

Spyglass Hill (71.4/137) - 102 - played last Friday with 30 mph gusts and driving rain the entire back 9 (tree fell on cart path on one hole), very difficult conditions

Black Horse (69.2/126) - 88 - finally a bright sunny day on Sunday, good round for me despite an 8 on #2 (a par 3), tough rolling & fast greens

...my father in-law is quite decent but took a beating, failing to break 110 any day. Great times, though. (Greens fees almost $1400 total, but awesome experience.)

Westmiddlesex GC par 69 6127

29 Stableford wasn't enough.
An up and down round good shots were good bad shots were horrid and I didn’t do enough around the greens to scramble.
High point; a twenty foot, steeply down hill, right to left braking putt for par that missed the cup by millimetres and ended two feet bellow the hole.
Low point; leaving that two foot return putt sitting on the lip.
2 pars, 9 bogies, 3 doubles, 4 blobs

Shot my best round ever of 83 (previous low was 85) on Saturday at Rock Manor in DE - 3 birdies, 6 pars - have never hit my whole bag that well and consistent - pretty sure I'll be chasing that score for the rest of the year.

Rock Manor! Holy **** I've played there. Went to UD, used to play all the cheap public courses there. Delcastle, Chisel Creek, Porky Oliver's, Rock Manor.... hmmm I guess that's it. Brings back memories though.

Do you go to UD? Also, it must have been really cold there no?

Rock Manor went through a major re-design about two years ago - from what I understand they made it an entirely different course, total rip up and re-do. I hadn't played the old one, but I do play occasionally with a group of friends that live in Delaware and they made the comparison of <insert old, crappy thing here> to <insert newer, much better thing here> - pace of play sucks but it's a decent public course, middle of the pack for this area. I haven't played any of the others you mentioned, others in Delaware I've played are Back Creek, Delaware National, Deerfield, White Clay Creek, Brandywine CC...maybe some others too that I cant remember.

I don't go to UD, this was the only course in the area that I knew about that was open - I live about 50 miles northwest of Delaware so have golf will travel - I got the email on Tuesday that they were and booked a time immediately. There was still some snow in the bunkers and the water hazards were iced over, but the fairways/teeboxes/greens were all dry - only small pockets of standing water elsewhere. One of my buddies in my group had his first hole in one that day, pretty exciting.

The course I live on and others in my immediate area won't be open for at least another week or two due to the snow/moisture. It wasn't cold, low 50's, sunny with a mild wind - it was basically the same weather I had on my trip to Florida two weeks ago so I was used to it - first day of "nice" weather for this area so everyone was outside.

First round since last summer at Baywood Greens in Sussex County Delaware. 6491 yards/rating 71/slope 130. Shot 96. I am a chop who plays 5-10 times per year now. I went out on the spur of the moment. Went straight from the car to the pro shop to the first tee.
