The run of <100 scores is over. Shot 101 today despite hitting my driver significantly better than ever. A bunch of 230m arrow straight bullets. Just found a few interesting ways of f***ing myself over and couldn't hole a putt. Monthly back marker challenge which featured some incredibly sadistic hole locations. I hit the 13th green, left a 50 footer about 6 feet short, then rolled it high and watched it trickle past, off the green and down the hill. Turned a GIR into a quadruple bogey. Wtf

Sounds like you had a good reason to shoot higher

43-43-86 yesterday morning for me. 1 club wind to start quickly changed to 2 clubs and by 13, 3 clubs.

I hate wind.

Bodes so well for my upcoming Bandon trip.

Also, highlight of the day was my playing partner holing out from 135y on the 2nd hole for eagle.

this reminds me...i've played hundreds of rounds in my life but i have only one eagle (and no holes in one). i've had a dozen or so longish eagle putts on 5 pars and missed them all, but my one and only eagle was a ~100 yd chip in on a 4 par.
i almost hate to admit it, but i've also had 3 chip-in birdies on 3 pars of 50 yards or greater.

Not sure how far you hit it but length off the tee is for sure what you need to make eagles happen on the regular.

based on the courses i play and the tees i play from, a par 5 eagle requires a solid 210-230yd approach to have a shot. i've had lots of good looks but just haven't been able to seal the deal.

My only eagle was also a chip in, ~155yds from semi-rough with an 8i. When in college at FSU, I got a lot of looks at eagle putts, as the school's course was a par 73 (5 par 5s) and also had an easily drivable downhill par 4. I was so bad at putting back then that probably half or more of my eagle putts ended in par or worse.

I also have a hole out for a penalty birdie as well. Big drive into the left water on a par 5, nearly go into the water on the right side on my 3rd, blind hole out from ~95 yds on my 4th shot, and I thought my ball was lost for a short period before a playing partner found it in the hole.

This is me as well. If I am going well with my 3W I can make it happen, but it is rare. I made my first eagle ever this summer, and it came on a 50-60 yard wedge on a par 5.

Yeah I'm just hitting a 2hy off the tee and rarely a driver so I'm not even sniffing a par 5 lately. My par 5's from the blue where I play:

495 - Have hit this one multiple times, never an eagle. Dead straight and tight. Water left, OB right.
543 - Never sniffed it. Gentle dogleg left with 60y of water in front of the green. Went driver, driver off the deck yesterday and was about 30y short.
501 - Hit this green a handful of times, no eagles. 45 degree dogleg right with water left of green.
516 - Hit this green once and no eagle. 90 degree dogleg right with OB on both sides. Water short of green.
500 - Hit this one a handful of times, no eagle. 1st hole on the course so a little harder to hit when cold.
480 - Easiest par 5 at the club. Slight dogleg right. With my cut (read: slice) I have to be in the left rough to go for the green as there is a clump of tall trees right of fairway.
504 - This one in my lone eagle at my club. Have to stay on left edge of fairway or trees block you out. Went driver, 7 iron to this for the eagle.
514 - Dead straight but almost always against the wind. Water short and right.

Guessing lifetime I have around a dozen or so, all on par 5's.

I'd guess I might have as many as 20, including 2 on par 4s that I remember for sure. Fortunate to play a course with 2 par 5s that I sometimes have a shot at hitting in 2, even if it takes driver-driver or driver-1i.

My first ever opportunity was on the 1st at Nirwana in Bali - drove the green but managed to 4-putt bogey What'd You Shoot Today? (Golf BBV Thread)

Closest I've been on my home course have been on the 18th, had one approach trickle by the hole for a tap-in birdie, and twice I've been able to putt from the fringe when the tee has been at the front after going driver-hybrid

Weatherman says rain starts at 5p today. Everything on the radar will break up before it hits land. Nope.

Playing my round of 16 match play. Was 3 down at the turn where I didn't have the A game. Get it to 2 down after 11. I hit fairway, opponent in hazard and pitches out. He is still short of green in 3. I hit my 4 iron right, off the cart path, and OB, lose the hole.

Rain starts lightly on the 13th, and hard by time we hit green. I hole out from the bunker for birdie. He was sitting 5 on the green a ways away (he had a lateral penalty). Halve the 14th with pars. Really starts to come down on 15 and I par to get within one.

We called it there. Have to come back tomorrow at 8a to finish.

I always shoot in the 70s. If it gets any warmer than that, I don't play.

I've had a handful of eagles....three one-putts on par 5s, a couple of chip-ins on par 5s, and two hole outs from the fair way on par 4s.

60 degrees in February in Michigan, snow already melted away and not even windy?!? Yes please!

Didn't have time to play a round but I did hit the driving range, which was packed. Pleased that a couple months off haven't completely erased what I was working on. Hoping to get out there tomorrow.

Back out at 8a this morning to finish my match. Won the 16th with a par, we both 3-putt from the fringe about 50 feet away for bogey on 17 and both par 18. Played the 1st a straight par 5 and he pulled his drive in the water. I made a par and won the match. Into the quarterfinals I go.

The playoff hole also doubled as the first hole of my regular 8:30a group. 38 on the front...51 on the back. Guess I got tired cause starting on 11 I go double, double, triple, double, bogey, double, bogey, dou ble.

36-38-74 (par 71). 3 birdies, no double bogeys. Course is very short (<6000 yards), flat and not particularly difficult. Greens rolled surprisingly well for February and there wasn't too much debris. Good times. Now I get to put the clubs away for another six weeks.

Nice.

One of these days I'm going to play the ladies tees just for a change of pace. Probably a good time to do it is when I am down on may game and need a boost.

this is the time of year in Oregon when it totally makes sense on most courses to play forward tees (but maybe not the reds). there are only a few courses in the area that have fairways with good enough drainage to even allow your drive to bounce, let alone roll. on most courses you'll be playing your drive from its carry distance because the ball will either plug or actually bounce back a few inches....ahhhhh, good times. we will often play the par 4s & 5s from a forward tee box and play the par 3s from our usual box. can't post scores in Oregon from december thru february so it really doesn't matter from that aspect.

Had two holeouts yesterday. One was a pitch shot from about 40 yards, bounced and rolled about 5 feet into the hole for a birdie on the 5th hole. Then, on the 16th, I drove it into a hazard, dropped on a severe sidehill lie with no view of the green. Hit my approach from about 100 yards perfect but thought it went too far, couldn't find my ball for a while, and found it in the hole for a birdie.

Damn that's impressive. I'm lucky to get 2 to fall from 15' on the day, usually for bogey.

Only eagle I ever had was a fluke hole in one on a par3. There's a 485yd. par 5 at my home course that I've had some eagle putts on, but no dice. Missed a 5-footer once after hitting the best 3-wood of my life, that was a killer.

The 16th hole I mentioned for my holeout is about 315 yards from teh back tees "drivable" par 4. I drove it the other day and had about a 50 footer for eagle (3 putt par!) and can't really drive it unless conditions are right....but I've somehow never eagled it.

I played a 3 day tournament from the "men's tees" which is probably about 295ish and I drove it to within 10 feet three straight days and didn'tmake the put once. And other than hitting a short-ish par 5 in 2 and making a 10 footer, my only 2 other eagles on this course are a holeout with a 6-iron on a 460 yard par 4 and a holeout with a 4 iron on a 440 yard par 4. So stupid.

-11 61 in a 4 man scramble. We were putting on every hole, which isn't much of a feat. I left before scores were posted but guessing the winning score was around -20. There were about 45 groups using both of our courses. Played in 4:15 which is pretty damn good in a scramble of this size.

Hope I see a scramble like that! Played a couple of comps last year and probably wil keep it under 5 times this year too. They lasted 5+ hours, if 4:15 was a realistic chance would prolly go a bit more.

Have hit only one eagle and that was from 80 yards to a uphill green so did not see it drop. Half a dozen eagle putts last year but closest maybe from 12 feet, and even that did not really threaten the hole.

Yeah it was our annual charity scramble at our course. Since most of the people are members I guess it lends to faster play.

83 yesterday - 2 birdies, nothing else special.

88 today - Played good but had some bad holes including a triple and 3 doubles. We had 5 groups of 2 and my team was -10 (low 1 net of 2). Not bad for me being +8 over my handicap and partner being -2 against his cap.
