I can putt so much straighter with this setup it is amazing to me. I swear all I have to do is get the read and speed right now and it's going in. Heavier putter means a slower stroke which takes a little getting used to, but worth it all day.

i'm still playing the 35" Tank Cruiser 330M with 30g in the grip (15" SuperStroke Mid Slim 2.0 at 70g) and 20g in the heel and 10g in the toe for a 380g head weight. the thing weighs over a pound not including the shaft. i've had very similar results to what you describe above...so much better and consistent than my previous putters. most of the little twitches have gone away.

Nice. It is the way to go for sure. Most pros use weight for counterbalance to fine tune the feel they want. I never really knew that til recently. Oh and my putter head is 449g ATM. Makes for needing less of a stroke to get the ball to go the same distance as before as well which will help for accuracy. Especially on longer putts.

I'm in upper midwest so unfortunately I won't have the chance to use it outside for while, probably should of sometime the last few weeks. They are meant to be able to use outdoors well enough though, 6 hr battery life. I have read a lot about them and haven't heard of any major complaints about it, Thinman would prob know more. You would have to bring a Ipad or or laptop with as well though. Actually I'm wondering now too because as far as I understand u need wifi, Thinman?

You'll need an IOS or Windows device for the range. It will be a direct connect wifi connection.

I was about to order some of these online 2 days ago, and then decided to just hold off and pick some up at the store. Went there today and they didn't have any, and now they are out of stock online until Nov 21. Crap.

i'm sure many of you are aware golfsmith has filed for bankruptcy and dicks swooped in and purchased them.

here's the list of stores that are closing or have already closed: http://blog.golfsmith.com/press-rele...-closing-soon/

went to a local location this morning that is closing and here's what i found.

most, if not all, apparel (including shoes) is 30% off. bought a pair of gore-tex zero restriction rain pants and i'm really happy about the purchase.

clubs and club sets are 5% off
tees and gloves are 10% off
grips are 30% off (great deal if you regrip your own clubs)

I looked at the list and I'm surprised that they kept both of the locations near me (one on Tampa one in Clearwater). They are about a 50 minute drive between them. Both have an Edwin Watts within a 5 minute drive of them as well.

After ~6 rounds of playing them, I have to say the Wilson Staff PMP wedges are amazing. If you are in the market for a new wedge(s), give these a good look. The spin they put on the ball on shorter/slower swing shots is just intoxicating.

I have been trying to get back into golf now for 6 months and just can't find the time. But I am getting ready for the winter season to kick off. Here is my question.

I have never hit/used utility clubs, but it looks like changing some of my longer clubs out might help out a bit.

*Realizing that I very seldom hit my 3I, 4I or even my 5I during play is it worth it to make the investment?
* What specifics about my game should I consider before choosing to swap the clubs out?
* Are the lofts consistent from Irons to Utility Clubs?
Any ideas?

Its definitely worth replacing your long irons with hybrids. Even if you have a plus handicap I think it almost always makes sense.

The lofts won't be the same as the irons. I believe that you go one less number on a utility to be roughly equal to an iron (ie: 4 hybrid = 3 iron), but I could be wrong about that. Best option is to get fit and have your yardages checked so the gaps are even.

1) Unless you're an extremely good iron hitter & have a lot of Clubhead speed, it almost always makes sense to replace the 3i & often the 4i as well.

2) How well do you strike those irons? Off the tee, fairway, & rough? How often do you use them successfully when you hit a shot with them? Do you hit consistent distances & get them high enough?

3) It's not only about loft, it's also about length. A 3-Hybrid from one manufacturer can be 40.75" long & 19* of loft, while the same club from another manufacturer is 40" & 21*. Hybrids always have a longer shaft than their respective iron which is why a hybrid often plays 1 club longer than the respective iron (My 4H goes about 20 yds further than my 5iron)

Definitely go to a shop/course with demos and give a few a try. There's so many different ones to choose from.

Do you not hit your long irons because you don't hit them well, because the courses you'd play are super short or for some other reason?

The conventional wisdom is that hybrids are much, much easier to hit than long irons. Easier to get the ball in the air, much more forgiving, etc.

I'd start by picking up one hybrid. If you get the chance, demo a few and find one that feels decent. If money's an issue, look for a used one on ebay, callawaypreowned etc.

My 5 Iron is my 200 yd club. I generally hit it ok - but I am concerned that by not playing as much it will be tougher to hit consistently. 3-4 Iron are more of a struggle to hit consistently.

My home course is a nice one. I play either the black tees (7038yrds/140 slope) or the gold tees (6566yrds/135 slope) depending on who I am playing with. I am fairly long off the tee so those higher clubs aren't hit often during a round.

So I guess maybe looking for a 4U for my 5I and a 3U for my 4I?

Nope. a 4h would most likely replace your 3i. So if you want to replace the 4i and 5i you would look for a 5h and 6h.

I'd start with the 4h, they're more common than 5h and 6h

Thanks I had the conversions flipped. Maybe I can go to the PGA Superstore in town and get some data done. Then see what to get.

Cold day golfing on Friday, so got to try out these new toys.

Golf cart cover is from Frogger and was a steal on sale at maybe $60 (this sucker easily fits in your bag when it's rolled up too -- awesome for the sudden rain storm!).

The heater is from Mr. Heater and was about $100. Comes with a nifty adapter so it sits in the cup holder. It uses a one pound propane tank you can buy from any camping store. Lasts about six hours on a tank.

Turned a day that was going to be miserable into quite a pleasant one. Even though the cart cover only goes around three sides and is open at the bottom it still holds plenty of the heat in.

On about the third hole I cut the front plastic 'window' out of the cart cover though, because it was too hard to see out of and pretty much all carts have windshields anyways. Worked perfectly after that.

Here are some youtubez on the cover and the heater from their manufacturers. Both great products imo

Much easier just living in Florida.

I know all of the rangers at Bandon have them on their golf carts. Come a long ways since hand warmers in the pockets for sure.

bought a pair of these a week or so ago and yesterday was the first time i've been able to walk a round wearing them.

i'll preface this by saying i've always been impressed by the consistency of footjoy shoes in regards to fit. once you know the size you wear (11.5 M for me), all of their shoes seem to fit just like the last pair. i've probably owned close to a dozen pair of FJ shoes over the years and there are no surprises.

i bought these all weather boots without ever trying on a pair. i've worn the original nike air bandons for wet rounds since they came out, but they rub my heels the wrong way and i have to add tape to my achilles just to get around the course. this pair of FJ honestly might be the most comfy pair of golf shoes i own. i wore them yesterday for the first time walking 18 up and down hills through the slop, and it felt like i've worn these shoes for at least a year.

if you play four season golf i highly recommend giving them a shot.

finally got to play a couple sim rounds yesterday after being injured a few weeks. played 2 rounds (75, 76) with the costco balls. i used 3 balls randomly.

i get similar distance/spin as the bridgestones
they feel like a prov1 in your hand, cover is very soft
they also scuff like a prov1. my wedges only average 7-8k spin and i scuffed them up pretty good in 2 rounds

lol for $15/dozen...can't imagine ever purchasing $35+ balls again.
