Has anybody here tried the Taylormade EF or Cleveland RTX 2.0 Wedges? I'm in the market for new ones, probably a 56/60.

Have a chance to buy some 710 AP2's for $300 w/ new grips. Set is probably 7/10 or 8/10. Older gentleman looking to get rid of them with not a whole lot of use. Comes with a few vokey wedges but not sure of condition.

Is that a buy I should jump on or are the 710's too outdated and I should put money into new clubs? If it matters I'm a 12 or so playing ~27 holes a week.

IMO $300 for a set of 710s is too much. That sounds more like the rate of the 712s. Id aim for $250 tops on the 710s

710 AP2's are a great set of irons. I agree on the $250 depending on the quality of the vokeys. If they are decent then $300 is probably reasonable.

callawaygolfpreowned.com has an 'average' quality set of 710 AP2s 3-PW for $269. guessing their 'average' quality is pretty close to what you're looking at. this is the resale price, and the clubs you will receive are consistently at least one tier above what you might expect. this is what you could reasonably expect to pay retail.

valueguide.pga.com has the trade-in value for a 3-9+PW set at $216, this is the lower bounds when dealing with someone that is willing to skip the retail markup and sell direct to someone else.

you didn't give us much (any) info on the volkey wedges, but on the low end i'd guess they are worth $40 or so each wholesale.

Got an M2 finally. I really like that I find it easier to control, but coming from nearly 7 year old equipment using a Titleist 910 I really expected to notice more of a distance gain. I hit them side by side with brand new pro v1's and the M2 was on average 3 yards longer. I had the range to myself so I was able to hit about 20 shots with each club and go out and physically see the results and then do it again. A gain is a gain, but I guess I expected more.

Most clubs these days you only will see a distance gain if you were not properly fit for one club or another. The one noticeable difference with new equipment is how far it goes on your mis-hits.

Case in point when being fitted for the 917 the longest hit was off the toe. My toe ball spun less then my center strike.

Exactly. The drivers of these days have maximized ball speeds across the face for the most part. I switched recently from R9 9.5* to R15 430 12* w/ different shafts. They both can get out there 270+ when hit on the screws, but the R15 really shows its edge on the slightly worse swings/strikes. Strikes lower or towards the heel with the R9 were a kiss of death wrt distance, with the R15 there's still plenty of loss but not disastrous. Also, the black face of the R15 lets me track my strike patterns @ the range/course (and I can couple that with the flight I see to estimate my path/face relation).

Good point. I did notice much better mis hit results.

Played a full round with the Kirkland Signature ball today. I don't have particularly discerning taste, but I didn't see anything out of the norm compared to my current gaming ball (Tour preferred X). Definitely worth a try.

Kirkland signature update : Buy this damn ball. Sampling it against my selection of tour balls (Taylormade TP, TPX, ProV1) on pitch shots from 40-100, I see no discernible difference in how they act on the green. Consistent 1 hop & stop action.

Kirkland signature is the new ball offered by Costco. It's a 4 piece urethane cover ball that costs 30$ for 2 dozen. They are currently out of stock but I'll post the website for them: http://www.costco.com/Kirkland-Signa...100310467.html

Picked up the CounterCore Flatso grip with the 50g weight and added ~50g of weight to the putter head for counter balance. Started small on the head weight and added a little bit at a time to find the best feel for me and stopped around 50. This is a game changer for me. I can putt so much straighter with this setup it is amazing to me. I swear all I have to do is get the read and speed right now and it's going in. Heavier putter means a slower stroke which takes a little getting used to, but worth it all day.

Back before the rule change, I built myself and my dad long putters. I was never a particularly special putter with any stick, but dad became a god in the 5-15' range.

Recently I got a counterbalanced putter myself. My distance control has greatly improved and I've improved some in the 6' range. I'm still a pretty bad green reader so those mid range putts just don't fall as a general rule.

finally fired on the Skytrak during that Ryder cup sale, haven't used it to play a simulated round yet have just used it for practice. It's ****ing awesome if your a golf nerd like me but not a rich enough one to get a flightscope/trackman. After a summer of probably hitting 100 buckets or so and then a month or so of Skytrak I'm starting to think that the range is the weaker practice platform of the two, at least for PW+.

Awesome. What kind of mat are you using?

I got this one a while back. https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0...?ie=UTF8&psc=1

It's ok, but probably a little too "mushy", I feel like I'm losing some distance that I would be getting off of a thinner mat. But the pro to this type of mat is it's def more shock absorbent, which may be better in the long run, not sure. Which one do u use?

Have you used it at the actual driving range? I'm curious about it as I want to use it there to improve my game.

This is due to poor impact. Hit the ball first and you won't lose any distance no matter how mushy the mat is.

Since the rule change I build myself a long putter that stops at my elbow. I rest it against my front forearm for stability. It definitely helped improve my putting.

I'm thinking about adding the counterbalance weight and flatso grip to that putter as well and see if it is even better.

I have a Country Club Elite and also recently purchased a FiberBuilt.

The CCE is the kind that takes a real tee. They say you can hit down & through with it, but that will kill your elbow eventually. It gives good feedback on fat shots, but for me, is too punishing on the clubface and it was causing me to open up and lot more then I think it should have.

The FB is great, but a lot of people say it is too forgiving. Fine by me! It is actually just a different punishment though. I feel like with the FB, I loose a bit more distance on a fat shot then I actually would, but the path stays more online, so it is my preference.

Only issue with the FB is it's a bit too soft to putt from and will give some funky results on short putts. Less issue on longer shots since you are def giving it a nice positive stroke through the entire field of view of the device.
