Ordered SkyTrak. Going to use it with WGT for a bit and then pickup TGC once I get some power out to the cage.

finally found the M1 on callawaygolfpreowned with my fitted shaft. $120 off retail for like new condition.

i've purchased several clubs off the site over the past few years (both callaway and other brands), and i'm totally expecting the driver to show up looking like it's never been hit. it's a great value when you can find the club you want, and the condition you get will be at least one grade up from what you'd expect it to be.
the set of apex irons i currently play were bought there used (in pristine condition for a few hundred less than retail), as was my previous set of diablo forged irons. i also still play a used 3-wood and odyssey putter that was bought there as well.

I have had success on CPO as well. It's always tough for me as I have two strikes against me, being a lefty and needing x-flex shafts.

Lurker here, but figured I'd chime in since I just got my first order from CPO -- Ping S55 4-PW in fantastic shape for about $400 shipped. Even was able to find +1/2" and an upright lie angle (not quite as upright as my current irons, but close enough). Very happy; the site is definitely worth a look for anyone who doesn't mind used stuff.

I guess this is the thread for this. I am using a Callaway FT9 Tour...circa 2009 I guess. I'm sort of out of the equipment loop these days, but in the past would never carry the same driver for 7 straight years because obviously you are at a disadvantage at some point.

How much do you guys think I'm giving up?

Not sure how much, but I'm sure you're giving up some. This (video below) is a bit more drastic (19 year gap), but worth a look:

cliffs: 19 year difference in technology has given his drive a ~40 yard advantage.

Bought the Callaway CF16 irons a few days ago, but not really liking them. They feel great and are super long, but they're a little heavier than the set I was using so I'm mi****ting the odd shot. If anyone is looking for a set of these (4-A, steel, stiff) that have only a round and a half on them then PM me and maybe we can make a deal.

I've used both and kind of prefer the GPS. For one it's faster and for another I prefer knowing the front and back yardages for the green as much if not more than the actual pin. Sure it's useful to know that it's, say, 166 to the pin, but if your GPS is showing 144/160/170 that to me gives way more useful information in an instant, because then I can select a club that for sure will get to the front if it's a front pin or one that for sure won't go over if it's in the back.

It's especially relevant on longer shots to the green where precise distance control is less likely and making sure to hit the green is the priority.

Thanks for this. It's a pretty tough decision on what to do. I don't really feel like my driver is old or unplayable or anything, but it seems silly to just leave distance out there which could be achieved with nothing more than buying a new driver.

I struggle with this balancing act with equipment all of the time too, because I have had drivers that I just can't hit straight. So, for example, even though I know my spin rate is too high and far from optimal, it's useless to have an optimal spin rate if you hook every shot into the woods.

Our local sporting goods store has brand new R15s on clearance. I just saw them yesterday, but I don't remember the price. I wanna say it was $239. They had a couple 9.5's and a 10.5 I think.

I started looking at some used M1's at the shop and may go that route, but I dunno...think i've almost fixed my swing and my old piece of **** launcher may finally get a chance to do it's job for a while.

I'd go for the Ping I20 or I25. They are sweet drivers imo. Should be quite affordable right now too.

I'm still playing my SLDR; longest I've had any driver for. Looking to grab a new one during the off season (November to March).

Any suggestions? I know the M2 / M1 are the front runners, but I generally like heavier feeling drivers. Any thoughts on the titleist 915d2?

Eta: I'm a 17 hcp so need something forgiving but still gives me room to grow. (I can't keep buying a new driver every year, regardless of how fun it is to do so)

What made you change your mind on the Skytrak?

mainly cost.

after the research, i decided that i wanted photographic over radar. that left me at the skytrak or the gc2. I'd love a gc2, but not for $6500 and then i know for sure i would want the hmt after and that's like another $5k. just not going to happen.

once i saw the popularity of TGC and that the integration with skytrak going fairly well, the fact that I can buy TGC outright softened me to the $100/yr pop from skytrak.

I would say take a look at the M2. I am not familiar with Titleist drivers at all but you could for sure pick up a 915 for cheaper since the 917 will be out next year. I see they recently dropped the price of the 915s.

Can't stress enough to get fitted for your driver. The shaft is just as important as the driver.

Wasn't getting off the tee for **** lately with my driver/3W (topping everything), so I bought a Rocketballz 3 iron (KBS satin, stiff, 17.5 deg) as a driving iron. By the time it had gotten here, I figured out my driver (I was teeing way too high and overcompensating, now I tee low and stay down and hardly ever miss. Still nice to have in the bag, I can hit a fairly straight 225yd tee shot with it for those dangerous short par 4s

Thanks for the post. Because of your input I tried the irons out a few more times and now I'm loving them. They're extremely forgiving and sick long, but also soft like a players' iron. Very cool.
