And he would be faster if you replaced all instances of 'get the yardage by range finder' with 'get the yardage by looking for distance markers and pacing off the yardage'?

As BYN says, this is caused by the guy being an idiot, not by him using a range finder.

Getting the 12* SLDR mini in a trade and no idea what to think really. I cant see it staying in my bag as I dont know what I would use it for unless by chance it is longer than my driver which I doubt. I guess maybe a bomber 3 wood? Curious to hit it nonetheless

What loft is your driver regularly? And what driver are you currently hitting?

Also, I think it is supposed to be more of a wood than a driver.

Would love to hear your review on this, once you get a chance.

I play a 9.5 913 D3 driver. I know the next driver I get will be 7.5 since I tend to hit a bit more up on the ball.

I have read that some people actually hit it further than there driver and some hit it about 10-15 yds shorter but picked up a ton of accuracy. Hoping it is easy to hit off the deck and Ill just bag it as a long 3 wood.

Can always trade it or sell it again, just getting way too good of a trade to not take it

Picked up a TM Jetspeed 3 from Golfsmith with their 25% off deal yesterday. Something like 140 all in, too good to pass up, and I hit it as straight as anything in my bag. Now it just needs to stop raining for 5 minutes here.

Ed's right. Range finders are stupid. They aren't allowed on Tour I don't know why bogey golfers think they need them. I also think they slow down play.

These guys aren't just zapping the flag and that's it. They zap bunkers, front/back of green, tree limbs, all kinds of nonsense. Just another gimmicky item that people blow money on and think it makes them better.

The guy who had the lowest gross in our club championship this weekend (1st of 8 who go into matchplay) said that the best thing he ever spent money on after lessons was his distance finder.

I bought one a few weeks ago - not a range finder as such but a GPS - Garmin 3 approach - when the price came down (winter league win monies) and it definitely helps me for approach shots to hazards etc. I'm a fast player anyway, but I now just glance down to see the yardage - no extra time involved at all.

I would say I am now an even a faster player than I was, because I now don't have to estimate my distance from 150 yard markers etc. and definitely save time when I am considering yardages to ponds etc when I am either laying up or trying to carry.

Maybe some people mess around with lasers looking at every problem, but I doubt there are many who are slower because of them.

People waste more time marking their cards when it is them to tee off first and they are lagging behind the field than when they use range finders!

Range finders don't slow down play, idiots (some of whom own range finders) slow down play.

FWIW, quite a few of the guys I play with often have them. None of them are slower because of it.

A tour player has a caddie that figures out the distance for them and it takes them 10 times as long to do so compared to a laser.

If all you use it for is to shoot the flag they do not slow down play. I promise I play faster because i use one. Not only do I not have to pace off yardage and guess what to add/subtract for where the pin appears to be on the green... I also have a better chance to hit the right distance which will get me closer to the hole and not have to waste more time since I don't need to hit a chip shot as well as 3 putts... I hope

This reminds me though, has anyone ever made a yardage book for their home course? Obviously it was take a ****load of time but it would be cool to pull that out of your back pocket like the pros and know you are 162 out from next to this bush or whatever.

You could probably create one rather easily using Google Earth and some patience. The 3-d stuff... distances to berms and green slope lines would be tough but it would be cool to have for your home course.

GolfLogix app.
A $20/year subscription would do the trick.

this monkey needs to shoot the flag from the cart path, estimate the distance difference between the cart path and his ball location, take three clubs and his rangefinder with him to the ball, shoot a distance from the ball, pick the appropriate club, and hit the shot.

the rangefinder is not the problem.

Exactly.

Take your rangefinder and 3 clubs. Easy game.

When theHogan/ Nike Tour played at my home course ( Windsor Golf Club) in the early 90's the yardage book guru ( forget his name) had some made and they are still available in the pro shop i believe. I had one for a few years that Jeff Barlow left in the scorer tent after the tourney. Had some sort of bible verse on it. He made decent notations on every hole, correcting yardages, drawing arrows on the green for the different breaks and circling areas around the green that he wanted to avoid. I used it for a while but found the sprinkler yardages were pretty damn accurate. Now I use the laser.

Not sure what the rangefinder has to do with slow play.

pretty sure that 99% of slow golfers who just got a rangefinder, will continue to be slow golfers.

99% of fast golfers who get one will still be fast golfers.

Don't hate on the random human rain delay in the group in front of you just because he has a range finder - he'd be just as slow if he didn't have one.

A guy i know uses both a laser and a separate gps on the course for almost every shot off the green, and also uses and iphone app (third device) to track his score/shots/stats for every hole, usually while still standing on the green. he also has a 15-20 second pre-shot routine.

i believe he plays to around a 16...just imagine how high his HC would be if he didn't have all that technology at his disposal.

just do the math on an additional 30 seconds per shot multiplied by the number of shots a 16 takes and you will quickly realize why nobody wants to play with him or behind him.

the funniest part is he's the first to state how long a round took. "hey guys, that took 4 hours, right on target with what the course recommends". yeah ****head...we would have been done half an hour ago if we weren't playing with you.

OMG. He needs to be treated like a walker. Not a "no cart" walker, but rather a walking dead walker. 5 iron to the frontal lobe.

Anyone know of any good glove deals? For gloves that are at least halfway decent...I have a very strong grip and put a hole in the pad pretty quickly...I am paying $13+ in my local course pro shop.

last time in Costco I saw three glove Callaway pack for 19.99.

Also, try rotating your gloves. I have three gloves (all the same brand and size) and rotate through them. Maybe I am just imagining things but they seem to last longer when they have more time to dry out between rounds.
