yea i dont think it was yips, but more of him totally ignoring it while reconstructing his full swing. then he had a wtf moment the past couple of tournies and said chit i gotta practice. which he eventually did these past few months.

when you know parts of your game are strengths, you sacrifice practice time for that in place of practicing other weaknesses. i hardly practice putting because its my strength and would rather spend my limited practice time on full swing.

i rarely 3 putt and i play very few rounds. sometimes if i totally ignore my putting, i start 3 putting more often. thats when i know i need to practice. it does comes back relatively quick though.

tiger was and, i believe, still is a genius around the greens. you just don't loose that kind of skill completely.

people that have weaknesses in a particular skill get the yips.

It seemed that little cut or maybe it was more of a push block was working off the tee when he swung with a smooth looking tempo, 2 really bad shots and left a few putts 2 or 3 rolls short he could have easily had 2 or 3 under. Speeeef was a monster today and Day was on coming in for the back 9. Hopefully Tiger gets out early with a 68 or 69 so there is no sweat with the cut.

Thought Tiger played pretty badly. Miserable body language, no momentum, few real birdie chances. Lucky to shoot 1-over. He'll be fine with the cut tomorrow as long as he shoots E or better. Something slightly over par would make it very interesting, especially considering that he might be on his final two holes when the telecast begins at 3pm.

Happy overall with Tiger. Short game looks fine and that was main concern. And like Ive been saying all along for a few years now Spieth is a stud and is GOATing it right now every tourney he plays. He will have a better career than Rory and will be #1 by the end of the year, hell probably by mid summer at this rate. If Jordan plays well tomorrow I think he may run away with this

Read in another thread that Tiger skulled a chip? If that's true, he still has major issues.

Oh dear…first chance to chip and it looks like it went about 20 feet past the hole. Didn’t see it, so not sure how it went down."

Anyone who said he played terribly today is truly a drunk. Guy hit 10/14 fairways for **** sake. It was his iron game that let him down. Everything else for the most part was completely fine. At a course like this if one element of your game is off, especially your approach shots, you simply aren't going to have enough chances to score. He held it together nicely. I was pleased.

I'll have a $10 fun bet with you for who is the best in the rankings at the end of the year - define the end of the year though - end of the season or end of 2015. Either way works, just say the date. I'm taking Rory obv.

Done. After the Fed Ex Cup Championship seems to be the date that makes the most sense to me.

Taking Spieth is pretty bad in that bet

Lol what? 1 skulled chip equals major issues? Did you miss the rest of them where he looked like the Tiger of old?

In my opinion, definitely. When is the last time (other than tiger) you saw a pro skull a chip? No one is winning a big tournament hitting the occasional horrendous shot. Golf is more about not hitting terrible shots than it is about hitting great shots. In one of the two tournaments back, he was hitting terrible chips, and then he drained one. That doesn't matter though. Of course Tiger can still hit great shots, no one is saying he can't. But if he still has that occasional yippy move, he still has trouble.

I am expecting him to play poorly tomorrow.

Kind of sad the Freddy looks ready to miss the cut. Kind of awesome that Tom Watson played so well. I read somewhere that he would have me this his last masters but didn't want to draw attention away from Crenshaw. Seems like there's no need to hang it up

Might want to confirm it was actually a skulled chip before getting all prophetic up in here

He will play just fine and plenty of winners have hit horrendous shots in tournaments. It happens. His short game was great today and clearly doesnt have the yips and it was never a mental thing.

Well I knew you would say that since you are all about numbers but after this tournament he will be #2 in the world so I like my side just fine. I just dont think Rory is all that special, no where near as special as he is made out to be. Spieth is already infinitely more consistent than Rory has ever been

Well, if you think a world beater can also have major chipping issues, we disagree.

@nxt, I agree with what you said.

I dont think you watched any of the golf he played today at all if you think he had chipping issues at all today

I admittedly did not. My point is that if he is flubbing 5% of his chips, he has big problems.

What?

Since the start of 2014 Jordan has played 36 events, has 1 win, 25 top 25s, and 4 MCs

Rory on the other hand has played 20 events, has 3 wins, 19 top 25s and 1 MC.

Rory is special, but comparing Rory to Tiger at this point is pretty bad when looking at the overall picture. However, comparing Spieth to Rory is even worse.

Id snap take Spieth having a better career than Rory when they are over. Id also bet Spieth has better career numbers when he is 25 than Rory does now

Spieth is by far my favorite golfer but these might be be the most -ev bets I've seen in some time.

Tour pros chunk and skull/half skull chip shots all the time. Happens to everybody. One skull (if it happened, I don't know) doesn't mean much. 2 skulls over 2 days could be cause for concern.

To me it doesn't necessarily matter about 'who is better'. No one would argue that Seve is better than Nicklaus, but he was still fun to watch, and brought something different. Phil and Bubba both have a unique style of play that makes them fun to watch. Rory is a stick of dynamite that hits it a ton, and looks like he is enjoying himself. Speef and Rory can both be special players, without having to be compared to each other. It is crazy to talk about the next Tiger until that player has 10 majors and 50 wins, in my opinion, that doesn't mean that they aren't a phenomenal player worthy of your attention.

This.

Also here is an excerpt from an article about Tigers short game

The chip in question occurred on the 3rd hole.

"The next hole he scooted a chip 20 feet past the flag, but the green was running away from him. It wasn’t terrible."

Ok. Everyone breath. No skulled shots and other than this one shot he hit a lot of good one. Moving on
