Torque

Does anyone have a good grasp on what exactly torque refers to?

I played a round yesterday and my driver is an x-stiff shaft. and my grip might be a size too small.

When I mi**** the very tiniest I found the club/grip was twisting in my hands at impact unless I hit it perfectly in the sweet spot..

If I had a bigger grip would it help reduce this? I also think I grip the club too tightly and think a mid-size or a softer grip would benefit me?

any thoughts?

Torque is, basically, your hips opening before your shoulders. There's a kinematic sequence that optimizes what you're able to physically achieve in a rotational (golf) swing, and it all starts with the hips.

Not sure what the rest of your post has to do with torque.

when you are purchasing a club.. every club has a torque # (ie .006,.008, etc.)

wasn't sure if it had to do with grip or shaft strength.. or mi****s..

Torque is usual shown in degress (like 2.3* etc), basically tells you how much the shaft rotates as you swing the club down to the ball. The lower the number the less prone the shaft is to twist during the downswing, if you have a quick/violent transition and higher swing speed you probably would benefit from a shaft with lower torque than someone with a slower tempo and moderate swing speed

If the club is actually slipping in your hands at impact you probably need new grips, a new glove or your grip isn't properly adhered to the shaft. Can you grab the grip and twist it?

Re: Torque

You need new grips and a glove, not to worry about the torque in the shaft. The RIP shaft is already in the low end of the torque spectrum fwiw.

I have a very aggressive swing.. grips can definitely be changed.. they r getting a little worn (multi compound golf pride).. but I might jump into the midsize to see if that helps too..

the club isn't necessarily slipping.. it's twisting in my hand at impact. My glove is brand new too.

I just posted that pic for reference. I'm using the 2.0 tp x stiff with a matrix ozik HD6 shaft

This post made me think of Happy Gilmore.

well assuming your not hitting the ground it has to be its slipping in your hands - i get this sometimes when my grip is too loose....

Re: Torque

The torque of the shaft isn't really going to affect the twisting in your hands much. I mean, technically I'm sure physics happens and it DOES have an effect, but this isn't the reason for the twisting. The reason for the twisting is the off-center hits. You're hitting the ball on the toe or the heel and the face is twisting at impact.

Solution: Find the sweet spot more often. I know this sounds like a jack-ass response, but the torque isn't going to stop the club from twisting on off-center hits.

*edit* in addition, you may want to replace the grips on your clubs, or at least wash them with some dish-soap and a scrub brush. You'd be surprised at how much tackiness you can restore to your old grips just by getting rid of the slimy grime that's built up on them over what I'd venture to guess would be multiple seasons.

Re: Torque

Just put on some fresh midsize new multi compounds.. it was not a jackass response lockhart.. it's true. I think a more forgiving driver would have less twisting at impact on mis hits.

I definitely need to improve my ball striking

We'll see how she goes!

Re: Torque

You need to have a really fast club head speed to use X flex shafts optimally.

If you don't swing fast enough it's kind of like hitting a basketball with a broom.
