I am going to the Waste Managment Open next week and looking for tips.

Do I need to get there super early to get a good spot?

Can I go anywhere on the course with my ticket?

Is there a best place to stake out?

other tips?

i don't know that event...

but general advice...

find a place where you can watch a bunch of different holes/shots/etc. with a minimal amount of walking time. i can think of a few places like that at riviera (LA Open) and pebble beach, where i've seen tourneys recently).... pace of play is really slow so it's nice to see a bunch of things, including the "to be mentioned" boring putting

unless you are in a grandstand overlooking a green, watch putting is really boring. half the time you don't even really know where the hole is.

i've got on TV at both LA Open and Pebble through figuring out where the players miss that is outside the ropes. pebble it ain't very many places (left of 14th green is only really good spot i think). LA Open it's alot more places

watching guys from up really close hit driver is neat... and it doesn't really matter what player to a large degree. obv mickelson would be a real treat.

Back nine will be wayyy more loud/crowded, so if you're there for the golf, stick to the front as much as possible.

There's some space between 9 and 10 that provides some dual views.

5-6-7 (13 is there too) is probably where you'll want to start.

Also I try and follow a group that isnt as busy. Following Phil or Tiger and standing 6 deep just not worth it. So ill follow a less known group and if I see a spot that be great to watch I plant my butt with a beer

Make sure to watch bubba rip a few drives....the ball has a different sound even from his fellow tour pros

My general approach:

I'll start off walking on #1 with a group I want to watch. After a couple of holes, I'll stop at the place they hit their approach shot from and watch a group or two come through there. Then I'll walk a hole or two with another group I want to follow. Rinse and repeat. I'll finally stop at a place with a good view of something and is not too crowded and watch the rest of the players come through there.

It helps to have some idea in advance of the points where I might want to make my intermediate stops, a list of the pairings, and a couple of options to select for my final stopping point.

+1 got to see him rip a few in 2011 @ Congressional, sitting only a few feet away from him. We all know the way he shapes the ball and the way his swing looks on television but nothing beats seeing and hearing it all unfold in person.

If you ARE interested in seeing some of the bigger name players, following a less well known group for the first x amount of holes can be fun, then you find a spot where you get a good vantage point of a fun part of the course, and you can wait there and keep a good spot when the larger crowds come through (TIGER).

^great advice...also for tourney this week in Scottsdale avoid 16-18 and hang out everywhere but those holes and you will have much better vantage points and closer to players. Like poster above said sit tight in a good spot when a big group is close and then move on

Make sure you wear complete golfing attire, including golf shoes... If u feel frisky, don't be afraid to wear a glove too.

Spoiler:
but really though, don't be the guy that wears golf shoes to watch
