Tiger played it smart this time. Rather than coming back too soon he instead took the whole year off to get every facet of his game sharp. Of course you can't simulate tournament play but there's a huge difference between practicing for 3 months then coming back vs practicing for 12 months then coming back.

There's just no way Tiger stays healthy and plays a full schedule for the next 5-10 years without winning multiple majors and a **** load of tournaments.

That said I have little reason to believe that he can stay healthy for an extended period of time. :/

Anything less then 5 and a fed ex cup sweep will be a disappointment imo.

If he plays a full schedule? Man, it's hard to say but the odds aren't that great since it's his first year back and it's such a small sample size. Maybe 50/1 but I haven't thought about it that much.

You mean full schedule of majors? I think his best bet is to play enough to be in form by the Masters, then play a limited schedule to gear up for the majors and focus on low intensity practice (short game and putting).

If I was advising him I'd even tell him to skip the FedEx Cup. He doesn't need the money anyway, and I think playing a bunch of consecutive weeks is too risky.

Masters, Players, US Open, British Open, PGA, Ryder/Presidents, and fill in around it with the best of the remaining events that aren't the week before or after one of the above.

Of course the most important thing is no hero golf. He can't be risking his back trying to hack it 175 yards out of deep rough, hitting a full shot when there may be a root under it, etc. The goal should be to maximize his chances of winning majors by playing in at least 15-17 of the next 20.

Made a pretty large bet on U1.5 tour wins for Tiger in 16-17 with the qualifier that the tourney must award fed-ex cup pts (so no euro events or hero world challenge type events). There is no minimum number of starts so if he gets hurt or doesn't come back I win. How good/bad of a bet do you guys think I made?

It's an interesting bet, but if he stays healthy I'm pretty sure you'll lose. He seems to have a bit of an issue with majors (though nothing that can't be explained away by sample size) but he's still winning a lot of regular tournaments when he's healthy. The health, and no minimum starts, bit is significant enough for it to be a interesting bet though.

Spoiler:
That said - he's obviously going to crush 16/17.

That's stealing money. I'd put the o/u on events played (as you describe the wager) at 6. People just have no clue just how broken his body truly is. He will never be truly healthy again.

Not that it means anything but friend of mine caddies at a fairly nice course. There were some doctors discussing the back procedure Tiger had during a round and my friend was listening in. They basically came to the conclusion that Tiger is done and any normal human being would not ever be able to play golf again without experiencing some kind of pain much less play at a high level professionally.

I asked to make sure they weren't ****ing dentists because my friend has been known to have some flappy gums.

Neither was Hogan after a collision with a bus in 1949. He managed to defy the doctors so we can still hope for the best.

Doctors are smarter today than they were 65 years ago. Backs are about the same.

Speculation and rumors are about the same as well.

Yeah hes won 79 tour events. So there's that. That said if I was forced to take a side I would take the U on that bet as well.
