Phil took forever to win a major though. And Rory came back and slapped the US Open with his dick after lolfailing at the Masters.

Dude isn't gonna be the mental goat or anything but he's a helluva lot farther along than Phil was. Rory is basically the 34yo phil after 04 Masters...except he's 22

Even if he's the mental woat he's gonna win a ton of majors off talent alone..albeit while blowing a ton at the same time.

Tiger spoiled us by hitting so maybe 160 yard shots to 12 feet. Seemed like he'd do it every time. Now it seems like he's just hitting 3w, 7i to 30 feet and ho-humming around par every round.

McIlroy is getting it closer, and your 11" gap in their averages obscures that.

You are kind of in a cross-fire here between me and the resident Tiger fans that I'm trying to poke in the ribs. No one is hysterical/panicky about the state of Tiger's game. To the extent there is a disagreement it is over whether or not Woods is solving a balky putter away from an(other) extended period of dominance. I also think it might be time to consider the possibility that Tiger has grown fond of making bogey, but that is a different discussion.

I'd think quite a few - he's trying way too hard to pretend he's something he isn't these days.

So if McIlroy wins the Masters by 10, you'll find the performance unconvincing?

I'm trying to follow you.

Above is from the post I responded to.

Rory giving himself better chances at birdie (so, proximity) has nothing to do with why he was leading TW through the first two rounds. He hasn't hit it better in totality. He has hit more shots closer, but more shots further away as well.

TW has hit more fw's and more greens, but has made more bogies than Rory. And being that Rory has had so many more short birdie putts, but his proximity is almost the same as TW's, we can deduce that Rory is missing it in places further from the hole than Tiger. Rory is obviously getting it up and down a much higher percentage from places on average that are worse than where TW is hitting it. Because he chips and putts better right now.

NXT did the work above. Like him, I agree that Rory is playing better. I just don't think it's necessarily tee to green. His short game is just light years ahead of TW's right now.

And man, I just don't see this. Hugely naturally talented, but his swing doesn't do it for me. So many blocks and hooks from that action, and it doesn't seem like a move that will age well imo.

Announcers said Rory was second in scrambling on the week and that was before he got up and down on 18

Last edited by BadBoyBenny; 03-03-2012 at 06:45 PM. Reason: does the up and down for birdie not count toward scrambling? probably not

ship,

What do you think about Rory's strange reverse hip motion thing? Its one of the most bizarre things I have ever seen in a swing...is that something that is conducive to consistency? Will it cause problems as he gets older?

This. Like I've been saying his long game is pretty f'ing good especially off the tee. Near the top in both driving distance and accuracy, #1 in total driving for sure this week. Pre-accident Tiger owns this event from where he is putting it off the tee. Unfortunately for current Tiger this is his biggest weakness at the moment, relatively.

I mean damn, he had less than 150 yards for his approach shot into greens on half the holes today. 2 of those were from around the greens on par 5s where he was 1/2 in converting. The other 7 he was a solid even par, 1 birdie and 1 bogey, didn't scare the flag once. That is poor from any tour player's standards.

Could it be caddie inducing sucking? I have no idea where caddies earn their keep, but if it's not from 100-175 then I'd be shocked.

I think that all great natural motions have certain elements that can't be replicated. Is his action a problem? No, unless he tries to change it. Problems as he gets older? Sure, ALL GOLFERS AND ATHLETES WILL HAVE REPITIVE STRESS ISSUES. Are his more than others? Doubt it.

I know I say I am a great ballstriker and am a c0cky ass for saying that. But I have way that my lower body unloads with my right foot moving hard clockwise that causes me to slip terribly. I need real spikes, period. But, that uncoiling is what makes me do what I do...and I really don't know what I do other than I can't do what I do if I don't do it(obvioulsy that makes sense). Furthermore, for the record I went to an Elmo concert at 10 this morning, had a mambo (good margarita) on the way home and then continued on with the wife for a great night out. Point, I am cloudy.

But, to your question specifically, his lower body makes him who he is. HE IS FOR SURE THE BEST PLAYER ON THE PLANET RIGHT NOW. So, he is 23 and the best. If he is that good already and can continue to learn, because I agree he is very unpolished, well, if he is the best right now and really sucks for what he can be...well.

there might be a real deal Tiger focus GOAT, and a real deal pure natural talent GOAT. Again, my compromise is Jack IS the greatest major champion ever, Tiger is THE greatest player ever (if you don't think that you are a ****ing idiot) and Rory just MIGHT be the greatest natural talent ever.

Review each CAPITALIZED word above and disagree as need be...but to steal a line from Spenda...you're an idiot. In all honesty he calls me an idiot, but I feel like I can send that line elsewhere.

And.....BEERMONEY!!!!!!!!!!!! Where's my BEER!??!?!?!??!?!?!?!?!?

I'm just glad I just had the ability to pour a tequila sunrise...why that drink? Well, that is all I had left. I have no clue if he will win 2+, I just think he could.

Also, if you can, where are you from Shemp..you are now number 1 on my list, sorry BeerMoney but it wasn't gonna happen for us anyway.

Actually I forgot about Stadler and he is my #1 but I am old schoool to him anywho.
